Welcome to Week 8 of the high school football season. The facts are clear: with only two weeks remaining in the regular season, Chick’s Picks has established herself as the front-runner among WPIAL football prognosticators. Proud of this accomplishment, Chick’s Picks shared the data with the boss last week. The email exchange went as follows:
Chick’s Picks:
Boss, As of last week—my season record: 259-74 (78%). The Fumbler’s season record: 253-80 (76%). Just saying.
Boss:
Chick’s Picks, Wow. A whole two percent better. You should be dusting that crackpot.
Needless to say, Chick’s Picks was dismayed at the lack of respect from the boss. Her 12 seasons of prognosticating simply cannot compare to the more than five decades that The Fumbler has under his belt, making her success even more commendable.
That success was evident once again last week, as Chick’s Picks finished with a 57-9 (86%) record, bringing her season total to 369-96 (79%). Here are this week’s predictions:
Agree with her picks? Disagree? Chick’s Picks wants to hear from you! Be sure to follow her on Twitter @ChicksPicksMSA. Don’t forget to tweet your scores to us @MSASports or use #MSAScores!
CLASS AAAA
#2 Gateway (6-1) at #7 Penn-Trafford (6-1)
The Foothills Conference title will be on the line as Penn-Trafford hosts Gateway Friday night. Last week, the Warriors blanked Kiski, 27-0. The Gators won big over Norwin, 62-14. Both have already clinched playoff spots. Penn-Trafford’s only loss this season came in Week 1 to North Hills, 28-14. Gateway fell to North Allegheny, 14-3, in Week 6. The Gators boast the highest scoring offense in Class AAAA, averaging more than 44 points per game. QB Thomas Woodson has 1,369 passing yards and 15 touchdowns, with no interceptions. Warriors QB Dorian Stevens can get it done through the air and on the ground, with 721 passing yards, 423 rushing yards, and 12 touchdowns. Chick’s Picks expects the Gators high-powered offense to be too much for the Warriors.

#1 Montour (7-0) at #5 West Allegheny (6-1)
Top-ranked Montour will try to remain perfect at West Allegheny Friday night in another Parkway Conference showdown. The Spartans are coming off a 40-35 win over Blackhawk, while the Indians shutout New Castle, 14-0. West Allegheny’s only loss to date came to Central Valley, 28-14 in Week 5. The Indians rely heavily on their ground game with four solid running backs. Tory Delmonico, Armonde Dellovade, Chayse Dillon, and Nick Albedl have combined for 19 touchdowns and nearly 1,700 rushing yards. The Spartans will look to do-it-all athlete Devin Wilson, who has 651 receiving yards, 442 rushing yards, and 13 touchdowns so far this season. Chick’s Picks knows the Indians defense will slow things down, but the Spartans will remain perfect in the end.

#8 Beaver Falls (6-1) at #1 Aliquippa (7-0)
Beaver Falls travels to The Pit Thursday night to take on Midwestern Conference rival Aliquippa. Both won big last week—the Tigers 42-14 over Freedom and the Quips 54-12 over Ellwood City. Both have already claimed a spot in the postseason. Beaver Falls QB Dan Stratton has passed for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. Aliquippa’s RB duo of Dravon Henry and Terry Sawnson has combined for 23 touchdowns and nearly 1,300 rushing yards. The Quips defense ranks first in the WPIAL, allowing only 22 points all season. Beaver Falls last defeated Aliquippa in 2009, 21-14. Since then, the Quips have gone (3-0) against the Tigers. Chick’s Picks thinks it will be four straight Thursday night.

#8 Bishop Canevin (5-2) at Brentwood (4-3)
The Spartans play host to the Crusaders in Black Hills Conference action, with a final playoff spot up for grabs for Brentwood. Last week, the Spartans routed Carlynton, 35-0. The Crusaders fell hard to Clairton, 53-15. Bishop Canevin’s only other loss this season came to Monessen, 28-21, in Week 5. The Spartans rely heavily on the ground game, led by Justin Vickless with 965 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Crusaders QB Nico DiPaolo ranks among the best in Class A. He has thrown for 944 yards and seven touchdowns. Both sides are scoring 26 points per game and allowing less than 17 points. Chick’s Picks likes the Spartans to pull the upset.
