Citing lack of healthy players, Springdale postpones football game vs. Leechburg

The Springdale football team was forced to postpone Friday’s game against Leechburg because of a lack of healthy players.

Springdale interim athletic director Andy Leviski said the game currently is postponed and not a forfeit. All efforts, he said, will be made to try to make up the game before the end of the regular season.

“I have to make decisions that are in the best interest of our student-athletes, and that’s what we did,” he said. “It’s obviously something that we didn’t want to do, but it was necessary for us to do this in order to field a healthy team.”

The Dynamos, who are 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Class A Eastern Conference, started with 29 players on the roster but have dealt with injuries throughout the season.

They lost 64-14 to Riverview last Friday and have been outscored 183-28 this season.

“Our goal is to play our games, but we don’t have the ability to play this week,” Leviski said.

Leechburg is 4-1 overall this season and tied with Clairton atop the Eastern Conference.

WPIAL administrator Vince Sortino said Springdale alerted the league of the situation.

Springdale is the third WPIAL team that has been forced to postpone a game this season because of a lack of healthy players.

Shady Side Academy postponed its game with Clairton in Week 2, and Rochester did the same for its game against Neshannock in Week 3.
