Coach-in-waiting Kim Niedbala resigns at West Allegheny

West Allegheny needs a football coach after all.

Kim Niedbala, the West A assistant tabbed to replace Bob Palko, tendered his resignation Sunday citing “a family decision.” The school district had decided last February to make Niedbala the team’s coach-in-waiting during this past season, Palko’s last with the Indians.

“It’s just for the best interest of myself and my family at this point,” Niedbala said.

The district notified parents after receiving Niedbala’s resignation letter.

Niedbala said he could be coaching elsewhere next fall.

“I probably would like to,” he said. “We’ll see how all the chips fall and go from there.”
