Programs hosted by Monroeville Public Library include:
• Holiday Gift Cards: Collage and Natural Dye Eco Prints, 1 p.m. Dec. 1, in person.
Join local artist Debbie Walker in an artistic exploration of mixed media materials as she demonstrates using natural dyes and collage techniques to make holiday gift cards. Learn how to create cards incorporating brush, stencil and everyday objects into something unique. Participants will learn how to embellish cards by doodling details and can experiment making their own holiday creations.
RSVP through the library’s website, www.monroevillelibrary.org.
• Calligraphy Demonstration, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 9, in person.
Calligraphy Guild Pittsburgh members return for demonstrations and creating free personalized holiday ornaments or bookmarks that are yours to keep.
• Death Café, Dec. 9, in person. Doors open at 1 p.m.
Please arrive early, as the program starts promptly at 1:30. Arriving late can be disruptive to the conversation.
What to expect: break out into small groups and begin with introductions and icebreakers to get the conversation going, followed by open and respectful discussion. Please note this is not a grief support group, just a space for like-minded people to promote positive death discussion.
• Career Development Résumé Review, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14, in person.
Kami Otero De Owens, a 2021 graduate of New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, will share her story on what it took to land a job in the field in Pittsburgh and offer some answers to audience questions on résumé style, networking options and career development.
Check out Kami’s bio at www.linkedin.com/in/kami-otero. RSVP through the library’s website.
• Classic film showing: “Some Like It Hot,” 6 p.m. Dec. 14, in person.
Directed by Billy Wilder, the 1959 movie was voted as the top comedy film by the American Film Institute on its “100 Years … 100 Laughs” poll in 2000, and was selected as the best comedy of all time in a poll of 253 film critics from 52 countries conducted by the BBC in 2017.
After two male musicians (Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis) witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women (including Marilyn Monroe’s Sugar Kane), but further complications set in as the plot develops.
