Nathan Dua and Colin Gramley can double up in WPIAL doubles.
Shady Side Academy’s doubles tandem, the defending champions, advanced to the finals of the WPIAL Class AAA doubles tournament, which will take place Tuesday at Oxford Athletic Club North in Wexford.
Dua and Gramley will square off against Peters Township’s Connor Bruce and Elian Ascensio in the championship round. Both teams won in straight sets in the semifinals Monday at North Allegheny, with Dua and Gramley beating Allderdice’s Kazuma Parkinson and Sammy Nayhouse and Bruce and Ascensio taking down Fox Chapel’s Jay Kashyap and Brandon Wei.
It will be an all-Quaker Valley match for the Class AA championship, as the Quakers’ doubles tandems of Zach Albert and John Watters and Potter Oliver and Will Sirianni will face each other.
Albert and Watters beat South Park’s Joey Toth and Stone Ellis in the semifinals Monday at Shady Side Academy, while Oliver and Sirianni defeated Thomas Jefferson’s Andy Griffiths and Chad Gress.
The WPIAL moved the championship and consolation matches to Oxford Athletic Club because of inclement weather in Tuesday’s forecast.
The finalists, plus the winners of the consolation matches — between Parkinson/Nayhouse and Kashyap/Wei in Class AAA and Toth/Ellis and Griffiths Gress in Class AA — will advance to the PIAA doubles tournament next month in Hershey.
