Defending champs Central Catholic, Sewickley Academy advance to WPIAL golf finals

Central Catholic and Sewickley Academy will get a chance to defend their WPIAL boys golf team titles.
Central Catholic, the defending Class AAA champion, and Sewickley Academy, the defending Class AA champion, both advanced to Thursday’s WPIAL finals at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course after placing in the top three at their WPIAL semifinal sites on Tuesday.
Both the Vikings and Indians will compete against five other teams who advanced from the semifinal rounds.
In Class AAA, Central Catholic (366 team score), Pine-Richland (391) and Peters Township (403) took the top three spots in the semifinal at Village Green Golf Course to qualify for the finals. Fox Chapel (369), Shady Side Academy (394) and Seneca Valley (405) finished in the top three in the semifinal at Buffalo Golf Course, also advancing to the finals.
Sewickley Academy (390), North Catholic (415) and Carmichaels (416) advanced to the Class AA final from the semifinal at Butler’s Woodside Golf Course, while Elizabeth Forward (412), Greensburg Central Catholic (412) and Mt. Pleasant (420) advanced from the semifinal at Meadowink Golf Course.
