The Derry Area school board accepted the resignation of athletic and transportation director Brett Miller on Thursday.
Miller, 37, has been hired at Seton Hill in the institutional advancement staff as the major gift officer. He spent the past 10 years at Derry. He replaced Brandon Rapp. He previously was athletic director at Ligonier Valley for four years.
“It’s a great opportunity,” Miller said. “I had a great relationship with all the coaches and administrators, and I’m going to miss that. That’s the hardest part about leaving Derry. I enjoyed working with them.”
He will stay on at Derry until Oct. 27 to help with the transition. He starts his new job Nov. 1.
“I will be working to build relationships with donors and alumni at the $25,000-and-up level in order to move the university forward in their fundraising effort.” Miller said. “I’m looking forward to the new opportunity.”
Miller is a Mt. Pleasant grad.
He graduated from IUP, majoring in sports administration and minoring in business administration. He was the sports and wellness director at the Greensburg YMCA prior to his time at Ligonier.
When Miler was hired at Ligonier Valley in 2009, he headed the athletic departments of both the Ligonier Valley and Laurel Valley school districts. In 2010, he oversaw the merger of the schools.
