The conference title picture is clearing up in the Northeast, the PSAC and the President's Athletic Conference with some down to the wire finishes and a pair of overtime games.

Here are recaps from all the action around the area on the final Saturday of October:

Mercyhurst 21 – Slippery Rock 13

The Lakers, ranked number 24, are one step closer to the PSAC West Division crown and a spot in the State Championship game in two weeks with the win at Tullio Field.

Slippery Rock was held to one yard rushing for the game and 47 yards of total offense, knocking the Rock out of NCAA playoff contention. The Lakers remain alive for the post-season, a win next week over Clarion and a victory in the PSAC title game would assure the Lakers a berth.

Trevor Kennedy put Mercyhurst on the board first, taking an eleven yard pass from Travis Rearick in the first quarter. The Rock got on the board in the second on a C. J. Bahr 25 yard field goal. Gerald Anderson added a two yard touchdown run with 2:01 remaining in the first half to put the Lakers up 14-3. Slippery Rock got a Bahr 38 yard field goal with 27 seconds left to cut the halftime deficit to 14-6, the field goal was set up by a Brandon Watters fumble recovery and return.

Rearick threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this time 29 yards to Terrance Coon for the only score of the third quarter. Freshman cornerback Brandon Burley from New Castle forced a fumble, Andre Freeman scooped it up and returned it 32 yards to cut the lead to eight with 10:47 remaining.

Slippery Rock struggled on their next three possessions, committing a dead ball personal foul that ended one drive, quarterback Ryan Sabo was picked off ending the second and turned the ball over on downs to end the final Rock drive.

Sabo was 7 of 26 for 46 yards. Akeem Satterfield was held to 29 yards on ten carries. The Rock falls to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC-West.

Rearick threw for 210 yards and the two touchdowns. Anderson ran for 161 yards on thirty carries. Mercyhurst is now 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the West Division. The Lakers clinch a spot in the title game with a home win over Clarion next week or a Cal loss to Edinboro.
