Fifteen-team Derry Invitational boys volleyball tournament set for Saturday.

Fifteen boys volleyball teams are set to do battle at the 24th annual Derry Invitational on Saturday at Derry High School.

Penn-Trafford enters the tournament as the defending champion. The host Trojans, along with North Allegheny, Norwin, Deer Lakes, Shaler, Montour, Latrobe, Armstrong, Fox Chapel, Beaver County Christian, Pine-Richland and District 6's Central Martinsburg, Altoona and Huntingdon, will be looking to knock off the Warriors.

“This is a very competitive field,” Derry coach Shawn Spencer said. “After seeing what I've seen so far this year, I think North Allegheny is probably the favorite. But we'll see what happens.”

The tournament begins at 8:30 with the first round of pool play — competition in five three-team pools.

At the conclusion of the initial pool play, teams will be reseeded by pool record into three pools — first-place teams into one pool and the second- and third-place teams in their own pools.

After the second round of pool play, all teams from the first- and second-place pools and the top two teams from the third-place pool will advance to the playoffs.

All playoff matches are a single 25-point game with no cap.

From past tournaments, Spencer said the championship game will be at approximately 6 p.m.
