A summer search at Plum has landed a new varsity girls basketball coach.
Steve Elsier, the boys varsity coach at District 3's Biglerville High School the past eight seasons, takes over for Lindsy Muchnock, who resigned after one season with the Mustangs to accept the girls coaching job at Hempfield.
“I am very excited to get started,” said Elsier, who was hired earlier this month in a vote by the Plum School Board.
“I had a chance to meet some of the returning girls. I look forward to implementing my system, keeping the numbers up and working with the feeder programs.”
Elsier, an IUP graduate, took a Biglerville boys program that won just two games his first year and turned it into a district playoff qualifier two of the past three seasons. The squad completed the 2016-17 campaign 13-9 overall and played in the postseason.
Plum hopes to build on last year's 10-13 overall record, which included a 6-6 mark in Section 4-5A and a trip to the WPIAL playoffs. The Mustangs fell to Trinity, 61-20, in the first round.
