Mt. Pleasant will vote Wednesday to hire recommended candidate Mark Katarski, a Vikings alum, as boys head basketball coach.
Katarski most recently served as interim boys basketball coach at Hempfield during last season’s investigation of former Spartans coach Bill Swan.
He will replace Annie Malkowiak, who was not retained after two seasons. She reapplied for the job.
The former associate AD for internal relations at Seton Hill and the former women’s basketball coach at the university, Katarski graduated from Mt. Pleasant in 1995 and went on to college basketball coaching jobs at Division I Niagara, Chatham and Pitt-Greensburg.
He was 147-120 in a decade coaching Seton Hill and is a former PSAC West Coach of the Year.
Katarski is the director of parks and recreation for Westmoreland County.
