During Chiu’s career at Fox Chapel, he collected 12 varsity letters: four each in soccer, track and field and wrestling. As a senior, Chiu was named all-state in soccer.

He also excelled in the classroom with a 4.4 GPA.

Chiu was also heavily involved in the community and did volunteer work.

Gwin paying dues

Appalachian State freshman runner Rowan Gwin has been working on finding a way to climb the rankings in the NCAA Southeast Regional. Thus far, Gwin has found his way into the top 50. He has the 37th-fastest time in the 1,500-meter run.

Gwin’s best time is 3 minutes, 49.56 seconds. Virginia’s Gary Martin leads the regional with a time of 3:33.71.

FC girls lacrosse wins

The Foxes have maintained their position in the playoff race thanks to their excellent scoring attack. Fox Chapel continued to pile up the goals during a section win over Butler. Caroline Leland led the Foxes with four goals in a 15-7 win over the Golden Tornado.

Caroline Grimsley added three goals and two assists, and Zehra Ozkaya and Meg Delaney also added three goals apiece.

SSA duo gets started

Shady Side Academy graduates Rachel Jones and Sydney Birchard are working on finding their footing in college lacrosse. Jones has made three appearances in goal for Franklin & Marshall, which is 12-2 overall and 4-0 in Centennial Conference play.

Birchard has appeared in four matches and has collected four ground balls this season.
