The Fox Chapel track team made the most of its trip to the 59th annual Butler Invitational. The Foxes had a healthy number of athletes earn top three finishes and get a boost of confidence.

Both of Fox Chapel’s returning state qualifiers — Anna Troutman and Claire Conti — had productive days. Conti finished in third place in the shot put with a throw of 35-9¾, while she also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 106-1.

Troutman placed third in the high jump (5-3) and also turned in a 10th-place finish in the long jump (16-5½). Alyssa Quackenbush placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.02 seconds.

Rowan Gwin, an Appalachian State recruit, and Stephen Schrim were the top two finishers on the boys’ side. Schrim picked up a third-place finish in the 400 dash with a time of 51.29. Gwin finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:03.59.

Mason Miles placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 146-9.

Schutzman hits 200

The Fox Chapel girls lacrosse team won a ferocious battle with neighbor Shady Side Academy in Section 2-3A. The Foxes improved to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in section by beating the Bulldogs, 9-8.

During the game, Fox Chapel saw Sydney Schutzman score a team-high three goals. With the three goals, Schutzman increased her career total to 202. Meg Delaney also scored twice.

The Foxes are one of two undefeated teams in their section, along with Pine-Richland.

Pair finishes 4th

Malone and Hallman opened the tournament by beating Pine-Richland’s Ian Hurt and Udi Akolkar in the first round. Malone and Hallman, who were seeded third, beat Mt.
