Fox Chapel stole the show at the WPIAL Division I, Section 4 cross country meet Wednesday at Northmoreland Park, taking both team titles and crowning Michael Costello the boys champ.
Costello (16 minutes, 38.70 seconds) won a duel with Kiski Area’s Samuel Plazio (16:42.50) in the boys race, winning by less than four seconds.
The Foxes had the next two finishers — third-place Nolan Gwin (17:03.20) and fourth-place Asher Eckel (17:11.10) — to distance themselves from the second-place Cavaliers in the team race.
Fox Chapel also had five other finishers in the top 20: Nolan Horne (ninth), Victor White (11th), Harrison Parker (12th), Emmett Regentin (13th) and Max Davis (18th).
Kiski Area’s Owen Geltz (seventh) also had a top-10 finish, and 10th-place Brady Sciullo led the Plum boys contingent.
Gateway’s Piper Munyon (19:46.70), the only competitor to break the 20-minute mark, ran away with the girls race.
Plum’s Mayah Torres (20:15.70) finished second, Fox Chapel’s Claire Loudice (20:21.90) was third and Kiski Area’s Audrey Fowkes (20:21.90) took fourth.
The rest of the top 10 was dominated by Fox Chapel runners.
Bridget Hemingray (20:26.20), Cecilia Ressler (20:29.10), Sydney Kimmons (20:34.50), Maeve Sherry (20:35.80) and Ella Shevchuk (20:37.80) finished in a pack, placing fifth through ninth.
Kiski Area’s Kelsi Lott (20:41.90) was next to round out the top 10.
Brynn Gamblin (12th), Marin Airik (17th) and Iris Minturn (19th) also finished in the top 20 for the Foxes, who topped the second-place Cavaliers and third-place Mustangs in the team race.
