Franklin Regional boys soccer coach Nick White guided the Class 3A all-stars to a 5-3 win over Class 4A in the Western Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Game on Nov. 29 at Pine-Richland.
The game was for seniors only.
Owen Householder of Thomas Jefferson, Xavier Jackson of Bethel Park (2), Joscan Castillo of Moon and Mason Hall of Hampton had goals in the win.
Cole Radcliffe of Laurel Highlands and Aaron Bouch of West Allegheny (2) had assists for the 3A team.
“The game was extremely well played — hard fought with great skill, combinations and even defending, which you don’t typically see a lot of in all-star games,” White said. “I’m personally proud of all players involved as the game showed the extremely high level of talent that we have at the high school level in the WPIAL.”
Gabe Fegely (Canon-McMillan), Braden Crowe (Hempfield) and Gavin Patterson (Canon-McMillan) scored for 4A.
Cruise Lamanna of Franklin Regional, Cooper Geyer of Penn-Trafford and Logan Metzger of Belle Vernon all played for 3A. White coached Lamanna one last time.
White expected to coach against Erik Ingram, whom he coached under at Fox Chapel for 10 years before coming to Murrysville, but it was Plum’s Raf Kolankowski who coached the 4A team instead. Ingram had a scheduling conflict.
Hockey takes 2 of 3
The Franklin Regional hockey team picked up wins over Upper St. Clair (3-1) and South Fayette (5-0) to move to 3-4-2 on the season. The Panthers were tied for seventh place with South Fayette (3-6-0) with 11 points.
In the win over South Fayette, Brian Compton, JJ Tensuan, Brendan Yohe, Grant Williams and Joey Casella all scored a goal, with Williams capping a four-point night. Ryan Crouse also had three helpers.
Goalie Payson Neff made 17 saves in the shutout.
Boys take opener
The Franklin Regional boys basketball team was in attack mode in its season opener.
The Panthers racked up 90 points — the most since they scored 92 against McKeesport in 2023-24 — to rout neighboring Plum, 90-61.
Alec Masten led the way with a career-high 23 points, and Logan Walter added 15.
Girls hoops falls
The Franklin Regional girls basketball team opened the season with a 46-32 loss to visiting Mars. Sophomore Alyssa Bridges led the Panthers with eight points.
Sophomore Katherine Yaniga added seven and Senior Madelyn Catello had six. Yaniga and Catello each made two 3s.
