With its back against the wall and playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Frazier delivered its most complete performance of the season, riding senior Derek Diamond’s monster night to a 41-20 win over Riverview on Friday.

Diamond was everything Frazier needed — and then some. In a game where momentum swung early and never really left the Commodores’ sideline, the senior running back racked up 284 yards on 37 carries and five touchdowns, pounding away at the Riverview defense until it had no answers.

“We’ve been stressing all week about being consistent,” Frazier coach Tony Battaglini said. “From the first quarter all the way to the fourth quarter, we had to find a way to keep the momentum going and avoid stalling out.”

Riverview (4-4, 2-3) opened the scoring just four plays into the game, capitalizing on a recovered squib kick with a 1-yard touchdown run by junior Kaden Levy. But Levy was ejected on Frazier’s opening drive after a post-play altercation — a key loss that impacted Riverview on both sides of the ball the rest of the night.

Frazier (4-4, 2-3) answered with a 13-play drive capped by quarterback Brady Secrest’s 1-yard sneak. The teams traded touchdowns again soon after — a 28-yard strike from Riverview’s Connor Kmetz to Rio Stotts, followed by a 15-yard scoring run from Diamond to tie it 13-13 at halftime.

The second half belonged entirely to the Commodores. Diamond powered in for scores of 23, 2, 31, and 27 yards to put the game away. But it wasn’t just the numbers — it was his relentless running that set the tone.

“When you ask a running back to take a beating like he does, you’d expect to see ups and downs, but he’s a constant motor for our team,” Battaglini said. “He never taps out, never asks to come out and does everything we ask of him.”

After Diamond’s third touchdown gave Frazier a 27-13 lead late in the third quarter, Riverview trimmed it back to 27-20 on a Lukas Duncan run. But any hopes of a comeback vanished when senior Tyler Morrison intercepted a pass — a momentum-swinging play on senior night that helped seal the win.

Secrest finished with 66 passing yards on 2 of 5 attempts and added 20 yards on the ground, making timely decisions when needed.

“Brady continues to improve with every game,” Battaglini said. “When you have a run game like we do, he doesn’t get a ton of opportunities, but when he does, he capitalizes. He does so much for us at the line of scrimmage — breaking down defenses, getting us in the right formation. His leadership never goes unnoticed.”

Now tied with Riverview in the standings, Frazier controls its playoff destiny heading into the final stretch.

“I’ve told the guys we’re at the point in the season where they control their own destiny,” Battaglini said. “The goal has always been to make the playoffs — and now is our best chance.”

The Commodores will look to keep their postseason push alive next week when they travel to Greensburg Central Catholic (4-4, 2-3), which is coming off a win over Springdale.
