Gateway freshman Derrick Davis has almost three years to pick a college, but his number of options keeps growing.

Davis on Wednesday announced a football scholarship offer from Michigan, his third from a Big Ten team, joining Penn State and Ohio State. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back has quickly become the WPIAL’s top recruit in the 2021 class. He also lists offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Baylor, Cincinnati, Kentucky and Temple.

Davis made 97 total tackles (46 solo) last season when Gateway finished as the WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up in Class 5A. He also had nine pass defenses, two interceptions and 51⁄2 sacks.

As a receiver and running back, he totalled 919 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns.
