Christian Hyland is stepping down as boys basketball coach at Greensburg Central Catholic after six successful seasons.

Hyland, a former GCC point guard who took the job at age 23 after three years as an assistant to Greg Bisignani, said his decision was multifaceted but did not want to get into details.

“There are multiple reasons,” he said. “I want to move on to new challenges. I really enjoyed my time as coach there. We made so many memories, and I was around so many great coaches and players.”

Hyland had an impressive record of 119-31 and won a section title and made the postseason all six years.

On his watch, GCC made the WPIAL Class 2A finals twice (2021, ’24), with a pair of runner-up finishes, and played four times in the PIAA playoffs.

Last season, the Centurions went 26-4 and reached the PIAA semifinals before falling to Sewickley Academy.

GCC was 50-8 in Hyland’s final two seasons.
