With only eight or nine girls available to play because of illness and injuries, Greensburg Central Catholic had to postpone its third straight girls soccer game.

The Centurions, ranked No. 3 in WPIAL Class A, were scheduled to host No. 2 Springdale on Wednesday night, but the game has been moved to 11 a.m. Oct. 14.

GCC also postponed recent games against North Catholic and Riverview.

GCC (5-1, 5-1), Springdale (7-1, 5-1) and Riverview (8-1, 5-1) are tied for first place in Section 1-A.

“l can’t be positive about illness and injuries as kids are coming back or getting sick,” coach Derek Cuthbert said regarding exact numbers in his lineup. “It’s changing daily. Low numbers have been difficult in moments but have given opportunities to other players.”

GCC had to play with 11 girls in an earlier game, so it could not substitute. Practices are limited with such a short-handed group.

The Centurions’ next game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at home against Seton LaSalle.
