Hajdukiewicz’s five goals lead Sewickley Academy hockey to victory

The Sewickley Academy hockey team snapped a two-game losing skid with a 5-4 triumph over Fox Chapel on Monday at Robert Morris University’s Colonials Arena on Neville Island.

The Panthers evened their record at 3-3 in the North Division as Matthew Hajdukiewicz scored all five goals to raise his team-leading total to 16.

It was his fourth multi-goal game of the season.

Monday’s game was tied four times before Hajdukiewicz tallied the game winner with 1 minute, 48 seconds left in the third period.

Sewickley Academy returns to action Nov. 15 against Beaver at Brady’s Run Park Ice Arena in Beaver Falls.

Two QV runners bring home state medals

A season worth of training workouts, invitationals, dual meets and championship competitions culminated in races at the PIAA cross country championships Saturday in Hershey, and a pair of Quaker Valley runners brought home medals against the best in the state.

Juniors Annie Wicker and Daniel Ford will be able to build on their finishes as they will be back in action next fall with another shot at states.

The top 25 individuals in each class secured medals.

Wicker was seventh after the first mile, eighth after mile two, and she finished eighth overall in the girls Class AA race with a time of 19 minutes, 41 seconds.

She came in eighth for the second year in a row after taking 24 th as a freshman.

Ford made a big jump this year to 20 th overall (17:25) in the Class AA boys race. He took 92 nd as a freshman and 116 th last year.

Quaker Valley freshman Anna Cohen made her PIAA debut and placed 131 st .

Sewickley Academy senior Henry Meakem closed out his PIAA career by taking 138 th in the Class A boys race.

QV hockey falls to Plum

The Quaker Valley hockey team held an early 2-0 lead on Plum in a Varsity AA game Monday at Pittsburgh Ice Arena in Lower Burrell, but the Mustangs rallied to score the next three goals and went on to record a 7-3 victory.

The Quakers fell to 1-5 with the loss.

Joshua Bemis, Cole Musser and Daniel Fagan each tallied goals for QV. Bemis added two assists.

QV returns to action Monday against Pine-Richland at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale.
