Harlan on recruiting: Washington’s Walker set for debut

Washington junior Daniel Walker is a major-college football recruit nobody in the WPIAL has seen play yet.

That will change Friday.

The standout safety and receiver transferred here this summer from Snellville, Ga., where he had 89 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for Brookwood High School, according to his Hudl statistics. He had lived here until around middle school, Washington coach Mike Bosnic said.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Walker announced in May a scholarship offer from Louisville.

“He's just got a natural instinct at free safety on defense,” Bosnic said, “and on offense he can play all over the field. He can make big plays.”

Bosnic's reaction to his arrival?

“Pretty happy,” he said.

Washington (3-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, visits Frazier on Friday. Walker sat out the team's first three games while waiting for the WPIAL to declare him eligible. That ruling came Monday.

“I think he's had a good attitude about it,” Bosnic said. “He understood the situation that he was in. He's waited around a long time. Now he's just very anxious to play.”

Now everyone is curious to see Walker in action. That includes Bosnic. The defensive back has shown a nose for the ball and great instincts in practice, he said.

“It will be interesting to see if he lives up to what we think he can do,” Bosnic said.

If so, Louisville should be the first of many offers for Walker.

“We've had some schools calling about him,” Bosnic said. “Pitt's interested in him. He gets a lot of mail here.”

Kristofic adds 5 offers

Pine-Richland junior Andrew Kristofic is probably the hottest recruit in the WPIAL. The 6-6, 255-pound lineman added five more offers this month, including three more from the Big 10.

The latest was Northwestern on Wednesday. Also joining his list were Indiana, Wisconsin, Princeton and West Virginia. He already had offers from Pitt and Michigan State.

Kristofic was a second-team all-conference offensive lineman as a sophomore starter at tackle. His Rams are ranked No. 1 in WPIAL Class 6A and second in the state this season.

The three-star Rivals recruit also played forward for Pine-Richland's basketball team that won the WPIAL title and finished as the state runner-up.

Dukes add linebackers

The Dellovades soon will have two college linebackers in the family. West Allegheny senior Anthony Dellovade, one of the WPIAL's top tacklers, committed Tuesday to Duquesne.

His brother, Armand, is a sophomore at Youngstown State.

Anthony Dellovade, at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, provides strength in the middle for the defending WPIAL Class 5A champions. He had 119 total tackles, two sacks and earned first-team all-conference honors as a junior.
