Hempfield’s Amelia Droste wins state bowling championship

Hempfield junior Amelia Droste has been in contention regularly throughout the high school bowling postseason, qualifying in the top 10 at the WPIBL tournament at the top 5 at regionals.
She saved her best for last.
Droste turned in a blistering six-game qualifying average of 216, then rolled a 248 in the championship match to win the Pennsylvania girls single championship Friday at Bowlero Pittsburgh.
She defeated Warwick’s Taylor Miller in the finals, 248-175.
The top five qualifiers reached the finals.
Droste led the way with a 1,314 series, including a high game of 256, followed by Miller’s 1,300. Chambersburg’s Malia Briggs (1,299), Cedar Cliff’s Madilyn Bogovic (1,273) and Shenango’s Cassie Tucker (1,248) also made the stepladder finals.
Bogovic defeated Tucker, 205-166, Briggs defeated Bogovic, 230-214, and Miller beat Briggs, 236-209, to set up the final match.
Garden Spot’s Gavin Courtney won the boys singles title, leading qualifying with a 1,443 series and beating Montoursville’s Connor Anthony, the fifth qualifer, in the finals, 237-229.
East Allegheny’s Jacob Bingham (1,339) qualified second and Jeannette’s Masen Cline (1,336) qualified third. Valley’s Baxter Diehm (1,293) and Greensburg Salem’s Dylan Megliorino (1,246) just missed the finals.
