It’s quite apparent that Mackenna Orie did not go to Greensboro, N.C. this weekend for a vacation.

The Hempfield senior-to-be is out for some hardware at the New Balance Outdoor National track and field championships.

Orie, the WPIAL Class AAA champion in the discus, took eighth place to medal in the discus Saturday morning. She advanced to the finals with a personal-best throw of 141 feet, 9-1/2 inches.

Orie is not done yet. She will compete in the shot put on Sunday.
