It’s been a big season for the Slippery Rock softball team, and Fox Chapel graduate Mackenzie Borkovich is in the middle of it.

Slippery Rock, which had major renovations done to its home stadium, is 16-14 overall with a 10-2 mark in conference play.

Borkovich has a 3.77 ERA in eight appearances for The Rock. She has six strikeouts in 13 innings of work.

SSA players ousted

Shady Side Academy’s Sai Chaudhry was upset in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A singles playoffs. Chaudhry, who won the section title, was seeded fifth in the WPIAL tournament and was knocked off by Pine-Richland’s Ryan Moore, 10-4.

Robert Bartolacci also qualified for the Bulldogs. Bartolacci lost to Franklin Regional’s Colin Stalnaker, 10-3, in the first round.

Strong start for Bulldogs

The Shady Side Academy boys lacrosse team continues to head outside the WPIAL to find the best competition available. The Bulldogs are off to a 5-2 start this season with both of their losses coming to teams outside of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Shady Side Academy is 2-0 in Section 2-3A. The Bulldogs are second in the division in goals per game, scoring 11.9 per contest. Shady Side Academy’s losses have come to Episcopal Academy, which is in Newtown Square, and Western Reserve from Ohio.

The Bulldogs showed how that tough schedule paid off against Seneca Valley, which is the top-scoring team in 3A at 16.9 goals per game. The Bulldogs beat the Raiders, 17-11.

Grimsley leads Foxes

Fox Chapel’s Caroline Grimsley scored five goals to help the Foxes’ girls lacrosse team beat Shaler, 14-11. Meg Delaney also scored four goals and had three assists. Emelia Sutkowski made six saves in net.

Tough start

The Fox Chapel boys volleyball team hasn’t had much luck getting on the court this season. Due to players being unavailable due to illness, Fox Chapel was forced to postpone section matches against Penn Hills and Plum.

The Foxes have only played four matches so far. Fox Chapel is 0-4 overall and 0-1 in section.
