The Fox Chapel hockey team will wrap up the regular season at 6:45 p.m. Thursday against Beaver at Beaer Ice Arena.
The Foxes (10-7) entered the week in 10th place in Class A.
They are coming off a 5-2 loss to Bishop McCort last week. Shane Krhovsky and Chase Villani scored, and Villani and Ricky Downey added assists. Tyler Radigan made 32 saves.
Boys basketball
In the final game of the regular season, Fox Chapel (17-5) saw its nine-game winning streak end with a 52-45 loss to visiting Central Catholic. The teams were tied at 23-all at the half. Carson Cohen led the Foxes with 22 points.
Fox Chapel, the No. 3 seed, received a first-round bye in the Class 6A playoffs. The Foxes will face defending WPIAL champion Pine-Richland in the quarterfinals Friday.
• Shady Side Academy closed its regular season with an 87-47 win over Sto-Rox. The Indians (13-8, 7-3) led 28-9 after one quarter and 47-22 at the half. Grady Munroe scored 16 points to lead the Indians. They were scheduled to play Avonworth in the Class 3A first round Monday.
Girls basketball
In its final game of the season, Fox Chapel defeated visiting Armstrong, 55-45, to finish with a 9-13 record. Sarah Sheerer led the Foxes with 12 points.
“As for the season, we were disappointed to lose so many close games,” coach Jenn O'Shea said. “One more win would have gotten us in the playoffs, but there are two ways to look at that. With three new starters in the lineup, we were competitive. The girls have great attitudes and worked hard until the last game. Many teams in our situation would have thrown in the towel halfway through, but to the credit of our girls, they continued to compete and were able to win four of our last five games.
“This says a lot about them as players and people. I think we have a lot of hope for the future. Despite losing five seniors, we have underclassmen that gained valuable experience this season and are willing to work hard in the offseason.”
A pair of FC players earned postseason honors: Claudia Guerreri was selected second-team all-section, and Sheerer received honorable mention.
• Shady Side Academy its season on a high note by outscoring Deer Lakes, 34-12, in the second half to post a 53-35 win and finish at 11-10. Ariana Goitz led SSA with 23 points, and Catherine Jewart scored 19.
Swimming
Shady Side Academy completed its regular season Feb. 15 with the girls (12-0, 6-0) clinching the Section 3-AA crown with a 75-71 win over Springdale. The boys (9-3, 5-1) won 68-45.
“What a last meet it was,” coach John Landreth said. “We had amazing swims all around. Our girls 200 free relay team broke a pool record set in 2009.”
Girls winners were the 200 free relay team (Meredith Cummings, Heather Grune, Lindsey Grune, Jeanne Lauer), Sophia McMahon (50 free, 100 free), Cummings (100 butterfly), Emma Thai (200 free) and Sasha Arefyev (500 free).
Boys winners were the 200 free relay team (Adrian Beckford, Will Roberson, Adam Lauer, Trent Fuller), the 200 medley relay team (Christian Taylor, Roberson, Sevryn Napora, Chase Kuhleman), Andrew Meyers (50 free) and Nick Lauer (100 butterfly).
