High school football roundup for Aug. 23, 2025: Late score lifts North Allegheny past Woodland Hills

Brady Brinkley hit Luke Rohan with a 4-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as Class 5A No. 2 North Allegheny defeated Class 5A Woodland Hills, 28-26, in the KDKA Classic at the Wolvarena on Friday.

Brinkley threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns while Rohan ran for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers (1-0).

Cam Walter tossed for 213 yards and two touchdowns and Scoop Smith ran for 69 yards and one TD and caught four passes for 67 yards for Woodland Hills (0-1).

LaSalle College 23, Central Catholic 6 — At the KDKA Kickoff Classic at the Wolvarena, La Salle College (1-0) defeated Class 6A No. 1 Central Catholic (0-1). Maceo Watkins caught a 28-yard TD pass from Owen Herrick for the Vikings.

In other nonconference games Friday:

Albert Gallatin 48, Greensburg Salem 33 — Albert Gallatin (1-0) gained 402 yards on the ground as it defeated Greensburg Salem (0-1) in a nonconference game. Tee Guesman ran for 131 yards and Adam Pegg rushed for 123 yards, and both scored three touchdowns. Brody Chismar threw for a score and ran for a TD, and Max Topper had an 80-yard kickoff return for the Golden Lions.

Allderdice 30, Fox Chapel 7 — Trecyn Ford threw for 151 yards and a touchdown and added a scoring run as Allderdice (1-0) beat Fox Chapel (0-1) in a nonconference game. Brandon Beechaum caught four passes for 84 yards and a touchdown for Allderdice. Joe Yoshikawa caught a 5-yard TD pass from Joe Geller for the Foxes.

Avella 41, Mapletown 6 — Charles Rush threw for 132 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 134 yards and an 84-yard TD to lead Avella (1-0) over Mapletown (0-1) in a nonconference game.

Avonworth 35, Burrell 6 — Carson Bellinger threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns to Luca Neal as defending WPIAL Class 3A champion and Class 3A No. 1 Avonworth (1-0) beat Burrell (0-1) in a nonconference game. Dimitri Velisaris scored Avonworth’s first two touchdowns on runs of 8 and 9 yards. Zack Coudriet scored on a 10-yard pass from Hobbes Omecinski for the Bucs.

Bethel Park 43, Seneca Valley 26 — David Dennison ran for 238 yards and four touchdowns to lead Class 5A Bethel Park (1-0) to the win against Class 6A Seneca Valley (0-1). Evan Devine threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns for Bethel Park while teammate Santino Nowozeniuk caught five passes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Seneca Valley’s Andrew Loebig threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Rory O’Shea, who had four receptions for 122 yards.

Bentworth 47, Brownsville 6 — In nonconference play, Ben Hays scored five touchdowns — four rushing and one on a punt return — as Bentworth (1-0) defeated Brownsville (0-1). Bentworth led 41-0 at halftime.

Blackhawk 14, Beaver Falls 12 — Brayden McCarthy rushed for 109 yards and both touchdowns for Class 4A Blackhawk (1-0) in its win at Class 2A Beaver Falls (0-1). Jack Chevalier completed 9 of 10 passes for 89 yards for Blackhawk. Beaver Falls’ Xavier Clark threw for 86 yards and a touchdown and ran for 82 yards and another TD while teammate Christian Dawkins rushed for 109 yards.

Butler 32, Shaler 26 — Quarterback Nicolas Baggetta scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to give Butler (1-0) the nonconference win against Shaler (0-1). Baggetta threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Mark Klemz rushed for 126 yards and two TDs. Aaron Aversa threw for 174 yards and a touchdown for Shaler.

California 42, Serra Catholic 14 — Malachi Peak rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns as California (1-0) picked up the nonconference win at Serra Catholic (0-1).

Carlynton 20, Carrick 12 — Justin Berger ran for two touchdowns and Ashton Donlin rushed for 102 yards as Carlynton (1-0) overcame a 12-point first quarter deficit to defeat Carrick (0-1).

Clarkson North (Ontario) 35, Bishop Canevin 28 — In a game played in York, Bishop Canevin’s Damar Olds threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns, but the Crusaders fell short to Clarkson (Ontario), which scored the winning touchdown with 3:07 to play. Deuval Bone III added 99 rushing yards and a touchdown for Bishop Canevin (0-1).

Connellsville 28, Latrobe 13 – Linkon Keller scored on a 55-yard interception return, 70-yard punt return and 18-yard run as Connellsville (1-0) beat Latrobe (0-1) in a nonconference game in Latrobe. Caden Matthews added a 5-yard run for the Falcons. AJ Yeboah scored on a 36-yard run, and Cash Achhammer added a 31-yard run for Latrobe.

Cornell 35, Brashear 23 — Khylil Johnson ran for 150 yards and Terrance Collington scored three touchdowns as Cornell (1-0) defeated Brashear (0-1) in nonconference play.

Fort Cherry 49, Northgate 6 — Matt Sieg threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Class A No. 1 Fort Cherry (1-0) downed Northgate (0-1) in nonconference play.

Frazier 43, Summit Academy 40 — In nonconference play, Frazier (1-0) won a high-scoring contest against Summit Academy (0-1).

Freeport 28, Indiana 0 — Amos Glenn returned the second half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown as Class 3A Freeport (1-0) scored all of its points in the third quarter to shut out Class 4A Indiana (0-1). Glenn added a rushing touchdown while Dawson Gaillot scored on a 25-yard interception return.

Hampton 24, University Prep 14 — In nonconference play, Andrew Reschoff threw for 99 yards as Hampton (1-0) scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to defeat University Prep (0-1). Daimere Adair threw for 218 yards and a touchdown for University Prep.

Hempfield 28, North Hills 23 — Aidan Stinebiser rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught a fourth quarter scoring pass from Dominic Detruf as Class 6A No. 5 Hempfield (1-0) defeated Class 5A North Hills (0-1). Detruf threw three touchdown passes. Johnell Edison caught a scoring pass from Kelly McCarthy and returned an interception for a touchdown for North Hills.

Highlands 31, Armstrong 28 – Tevin Cratsenberg scored on a 9-yard run with 10 minutes left to give Highlands (1-0) a nonconference victory at Armstrong (0-1). Highlands jumped out to a 14-0 lead and withstood an Armstrong rally.

Hopewell 56, Riverside 0 — James Armstrong threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a TD as Class 3A No. 3 Hopewell (1-0) blanked Class 2A Riverside (0-1). Nasir Wade ran for 136 yards and one touchdown and caught a scoring pass for Hopewell, which led at halftime, 35-0. Mason Holler ran for 127 yards in the loss.

Jefferson-Morgan 42, Chartiers-Houston 7 — Deakyn Dehoet ran for three touchdowns and caught another as Jefferson-Morgan (1-0) beat Chartiers-Houston (0-1) in a nonconference game. John Woodward ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Jefferson-Morgan, which scored 22 points in the fourth quarter.

Laurel 43, Ellwood City 14 — Kolton Carlson rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 43-yard scoring pass from Luca Santini as Class A Laurel (1-0) beat Class 2A Ellwood City (0-1). Santini threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Smiley scored both Ellwood City touchdowns, including a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Laurel Highlands 27- Uniontown 0 – Gio Guerriere scored on two short runs, and Nicholas Crouch returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score as Laurel Highlands (1-0) blanked Uniontown (0-1) in nonconference play.

Mars 42, Beaver 7 — Colin Yurisinec threw for 154 yards and four touchdowns to Gabe Hein to lead Class 5A Mars (1-0) to victory over Class 3A Beaver (0-1). Hein caught six passes for 142 yards while teammate Hunter Schroder rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Mohawk 37, Neshannock 20 — Bobby Fadden threw for 180 yards and a touchdown and ran for 82 yards and two TDs to lead Class 2A Mohawk (1-0) past Class A No. 4 Neshannock (0-1). Joey Nail caught five passes for 101 yards in the win.

Montour 27, Central Valley 20 — Caden Halajcio ran for 106 yards and one touchdown as Class 4A No. 4 Montour (1-0) defeated Class 3A No. 5 Central Valley (0-1). Brendon Bennett threw for 193 yards and a touchdown and ran for a TD for the Spartans.

Moon 14, Trinity 13 — Andrew Cross threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Sevi Vandetti in the fourth quarter as Class 5A Moon (1-0) slipped past Class 4A Trinity (0-1). Jonah Williamson ran for 142 yards and an 82-yard touchdown run for Trinity while Owen Gardner added 100 rushing yards.

New Brighton 20, Shenango 7 — Jojo Montanez ran for 50 yards and two touchdowns as Class 2A New Brighton (1-0) beat Class A Shenango (0-1). Carter Jackson threw for 116 yards for New Brighton while the Lions’ defense held Shenango to 99 yards.

New Castle 12, Penn Hills 0 — Marino Graham ran for one touchdown and threw for another as Class 4A New Castle (1-0) upset Class 5A No. 4 Penn Hills (0-1). Devin Harris threw for 118 yards for Penn Hills.

OLSH 27, Rochester 0 — Prentice Organ ran for 104 yards and one touchdown while Jamire Samuels rushed for 101 yards and two TDs as Class 2A OLSH (1-0) shut out Class A Rochester (0-1).

Peters Township 42, Canon-McMillan 14 — Nolan DiLucia threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns to lead Class 5A No. 2 Peters Township (1-0) past Class 6A No. 4 Canon-McMillan (0-1). Cole Neupaver added 109 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Peters Township. Ty Jansma threw for 197 yards and a touchdown for Canon-McMillan.

Pine-Richland 38, Findlay (Ohio) 7 — Class 5A No. 1 Pine-Richland (1-0) defeated Findlay (Ohio) in a nonconference game.

Quaker Valley 38, Freedom 20 — Benjamin McHenry rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown, returned a kickoff 88 yards for another TD, threw a scoring pass and kicked a 38-yard field goal to lead Class 3A Quaker Valley (1-0) to victory against Class 2A Freedom (0-1). Kaden Bailey ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

River (Ohio) 36, Perry 12 — In nonconference play, Perry (0-1) lost on the road at River (Ohio).

Shady Side Academy 28, Greensburg Central Catholic 26 — Class 2A Shady Side Academy (1-0) picked up the road victory at Greensburg Central Catholic (0-1).

South Allegheny 33, Ringgold 21 — Joe Gamret ran for 123 yards and a touchdown as Class 2A No. 5 South Allegheny (1-0) beat Class 4A Ringgold (0-1). Alijah Cook threw for 108 yards and a touchdown for South Allegheny. Dennis Hawkins tossed for 179 yards and two TDs for Ringgold.

South Fayette 38, Chartiers Valley 15 — Bo Stover ran for three touchdowns and Drew Welhorsky threw for 108 yards and a touchdown as Class 5A South Fayette (1-0) defeated Class 4A Chartiers Valley (0-1). Michael Lawrence threw for 128 yards and a touchdown for Chartiers Valley.

South Park 33, East Allegheny 26 — Class 2A No. 4 South Park (1-0) amassed 223 rushing yards in its win over Class 3A East Allegheny (0-1). Colsen Heynes ran for 84 yards and a touchdown, Robert Lenzi added 70 rushing yards and two TDs and Quintin Napper totaled 69 rushing yards and a touchdown. Cedric Mack threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns for East Allegheny.

South Side 48, Sto-Rox 6 — Thorne Johnson rushed for two touchdowns as Class A South Side (1-0) won big over Class 2A Sto-Rox (0-1). South Side scored all of its points in the first half.

State College 41, Gateway 14 — D’antae Sheffey ran for two touchdowns and Kellen Williams threw for two more as State College (1-0) beat Gateway (0-1) in a nonconference contest. Elvis Koutsakis threw for both Gateway touchdowns.

Thomas Jefferson 69, Baldwin 6 –Tyler Eber ran for 123 yards and four scores as Thomas Jefferson (1-0) rolled past Baldwin (0-1) in a nonconference game. Harrison Kolling threw a pair of TD passes for the Jaguars.

Washington 28, McGuffey 7 — Ameer Nelson ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Tristan Reed tossed for 122 yards as Class 2A No. 2 Washington (1-0) beat Class 3A McGuffey (0-1).

Waynesburg Central 50, West Greene 6 — Teagen Crouse threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns and ran for three TDs to lead Class 2A Waynesburg Central (1-0) to the win over West Greene (0-1). The Raiders led 35-0 at the half.

Western Beaver 42, Ambridge 7 — Wyatt Sparbanie rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns as Class 2A Western Beaver (1-0) beat Class 4A Ambridge (0-1).

Yough 21, Brentwood 14 — Adam Shaffer ran for all three touchdowns for Class 3A Yough (1-0) in its win at Class A Brentwood (0-1). Cedric Davis threw for 129 yards and a touchdown and ran for 180 yards and a TD for Brentwood.
