The game might have been a day late, but a second trip to Beaver County paid off for McGuffey on Saturday night.
After falling behind by six points early, the Highlanders scored 41 unanswered points to secure a 41-6 nonconference victory at Ambridge.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but it was postponed after school officials discovered no referees had been scheduled.
Marshall Whipkey threw for 125 yards and a score and also ran for a touchdown for McGuffey (1-0).
Jared Johnson ran for two touchdowns.
Calvert Hall (Md.) 44, Woodland Hills 20 — Woodland Hills opened the season 0-1 after a loss at the Wolvarena. It was the final game of the Western Pa. vs. Everyone Showcase.
Perry 40, Northgate 0 — Perry (1-0) scored 26 points in the third quarter en route to a nonconference victory. Tre’shaun threw three touchdown passes for Perry.
Western Beaver 48, Summit Academy 16 — Cam Irvine ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns to lead Western Beaver (1-0) to a nonconference win at Summit Academy (0-1). Elias Bishop caught one touchdown pass and returned a punt 75 yards for another score for Western Beaver.
