High school football roundup: Moore leads Shady Side Academy past Keystone Oaks

Skyy Moore threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for a score and returned an interception 54 yards for another TD to lead Shady Side Academy to a 35-28 win over No. 5 Keystone Oaks (3-2, 2-1) in the WPIAL Class 3A Allegheny Conference.

Billy Frohlich caught six passes for 165 yards and a 39-yard fourth-quarter touchdown to give Shady Side Academy (3-2, 3-2) the win. Logan Shrubb threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns for Keystone Oaks, and teammate Michael Daure ran for 100 yards and two scores.

Class 6A

Butler 47, Shaler 0 — Luke Michalek ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns as Butler (2-3, 1-3) blanked Shaler (0-6, 0-4) in the Northern Seven Conference.

Penn Hills 44, Seneca Valley 28 — Hollis Mathis threw for 265 yards and a touchdown and ran for 116 yards and three scores to lead No. 4 Penn Hills (5-1, 3-1) to the Northern Seven win against Seneca Valley (1-4, 1-3). Tim Smith added 135 rushing yards and a touchdown for Penn Hills. Gabe Lawson threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 133 yards and a TD for Seneca Valley.

Pine-Richland 47, Central Catholic 17 — Jordan Crawford ran for six touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass, all in the first half as No. 1 Pine-Richland (6-0, 3-0) rolled to a Northern Seven victory over No. 2 Central Catholic (4-2, 3-1).

Crawford had a 24-yard touchdown catch and touchdown runs on 31, 3, 14, 14, 14 and 4 yards to lead 47-3 at halftime. He finished with 168 yards on 19 carries.

Canon-McMillan 27, Altoona 23 — Elijah Turner rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, including a 40-yarder in the third quarter that gave Canon-McMillan (3-3, 2-2) a Class 6A Southeastern Conference victory over visiting Altoona (1-5, 0-4).

Altoona quarterback Braeden Burchfield, who passed for 412 yards, found Tyler Petucci on scoring passes of 56 and 22 yards and scored on a 1-yard keeper during a second-quarter scoring spree for the Mountain Lions.

Canon-McMillan played the game without coach Mike Evans, who was serving a school-imposed one-game disciplinary suspension.

Class 5A

North Hills 20, Baldwin 14 — Melvin Blanks ran for 155 yards and a touchdown to lead North Hills (3-3, 2-3) to the Allegheny 9 win at Baldwin (0-5, 0-5). Dan Wagner booted field goals of 35 and 34 yards in the win. Mason Stahl threw for 101 yards and a touchdown for Baldwin.

Upper St. Clair 38, Chartiers Valley 12 — In the Allegheny 9 Conference, Jack Hansberry threw for 127 yards and ran for three touchdowns to lead No. 4 Upper St. Clair (5-1, 5-0) to victory against Chartiers Valley (0-6, 0-4).

Woodland Hills 31, Hampton 21 — In the Allegheny 9 Conference, Rodney Dennard ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns to lead Woodland Hills (3-3, 3-1) to the win at Hampton (2-4, 2-2). Ross Andersson ran for 160 yards and a touchdown for Hampton.

Class 4A

Indiana 20, Ambridge 0 — Ethan Marcozzi ran 33 times for 177 yards and a 30-yard touchdown to lead Indiana (1-4, 1-3) to the Northwest Nine shutout against Ambridge (0-6, 0-5). Luke Thomas added two scoring passes in the win.

South Fayette 43, Blackhawk 0 — Drew Saxton threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 2 South Fayette (6-0, 4-0) to the shutout over Blackhawk (1-4, 1-3) in the Northwest Nine Conference. Johnny Beck added 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns for South Fayette while the Lions' defense held Blackhawk to 34 total yards and three first downs.

Montour 35, Knoch 3 — Kavon Morman threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 5 Montour (4-1, 4-1) to victory against Knoch (1-4, 1-3) in the Northwest Nine Conference. Morman added a rushing touchdown.

New Castle 25, Mars 23 — Marcus Hooker ran for 173 yards and three touchdowns as New Castle (4-2, 4-1) edged No. 4 Mars (4-2, 3-2) in the Northwest Nine Conference. Josh Tomason added 115 rushing yards for New Castle, which overcame an early 14-point deficit. Teddy Ruffner ran for 102 yards for Mars.

Thomas Jefferson 56, Ringgold 7 — Garrett Fairman scored on a 56-yard punt return and a 35-yard run as top-ranked Thomas Jefferson (5-0, 5-0) beat Ringgold (2-3, 2-3) in the Big 9 Conference. Sean Bell added two rushing touchdowns for Thomas Jefferson, which has outscored its opponents 263-14. Ringgold's only touchdown came on a 94-yard interception return by Max Maciejewski in the second quarter.

Trinity 48, Uniontown 14 — Joey Koroly scored on runs of 49, 7 and 73 yards as Trinity (3-2, 2-2) scored all of its points in the first half of its Big 9 Conference win against Uniontown (0-6, 0-4). Cole Bair added touchdowns on a 23-yard pass from Dylan Kern and a 55-yard interception return. Ahmed Hooper scored both of Uniontown's touchdowns.

Class 3A

Freeport 44, Burrell 0 — Freeport quarterback Austin Romanchak thew for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Yellowjackets shut out Burrell in a Class 3A Allegheny Conference matchup.

Romanchak was 4 of 8 for 105 yards and rushed for 70 yards on 10 carries for Freeport (4-1, 3-0). Running back Conor Selinger ran for a game-high 154 yards and two touchdowns. Burrell (1-5, 0-4) was led by running back Logan Bitar who rushed 28 yards on 12 carries.

Seton LaSalle 35, Apollo-Ridge 21 — Lionel Deanes rushed for 285 yards and three touchdowns, eclipsing 4,000 yards for his career, as the Rebels (5-0, 4-0) beat Apollo-Ridge (4-2, 2-2) in a Class 3A Allegheny Conference game. Matt Banbury and Nistal Baldwin added rushing scores for Seton LaSalle. Logan Harmon rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown for Apollo-Ridge, while Alex Gamble scored on a reception and run.

Beaver 24, Central Valley 22 — Will Connelly's 31-yard field goal with 3:05 left in the game gave No. 4 Beaver (4-2, 1-2) the Beaver Valley Conference win against Central Valley (3-3, 1-2). Brad Barker scored earlier for Beaver on a 25-yard interception return. Robert Anzio paced Central Valley with 101 rushing yards.

Quaker Valley 40, Hopewell 10 — In the Beaver Valley Conference, Jordan Taylor rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns as No. 3 Quaker Valley scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to put away Hopewell (3-3, 1-1). Ricky Guss added 126 passing yards and two scoring passes and a rushing touchdown for the Quakers.

Class 2A

Beth-Center 50, Chartiers-Houston 7 — Bailey Lincoski completed 8 of 9 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns as Beth-Center (6-0, 3-0) scored 42 first-half points on way to defeating Chartiers-Houston (0-6, 0-4) in the Century Conference. Lincoski added a 42-yard rushing touchdown, and Dominic Fundy ran for two scores.

Charleroi 46, Bentworth 14 — Perry Hunter ran for 110 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 25 yards for another score as Charleroi (5-1, 2-1) defeated Bentworth (2-4, 2-3) in the Century Conference. Geno Pelligrini threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two TDs while Dakota Romantino caught seven passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

Neshannock 21, Laurel 7 — Joey Nerti ran for touchdowns of 49 and 11 yards as Neshannock (3-3, 2-1) beat Laurel (1-5, 1-4) in the Midwestern Conference. Seth Fehrs threw for 129 yards and ran for 123 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Riverside 26, Freedom 7 — Noah Harris ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns and caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Ben Hughes as No. 4 Riverside (4-1, 4-0) beat No. 5 Freedom (4-2, 2-1) in the Midwestern Conference. Freedom's Zach Rosa threw for 106 yards and a 55-yard touchdown to Noah Yeck for the game's first score.

East Allegheny 42, Carlynton 0 — No. 3 East Allegheny (4-1, 3-0) held Carlynton (0-4, 0-3) to just 4 yards of offense in its Three Rivers Conference shutout. Tamaine Underwood threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns for East Allegheny, which scored 30 points in the second quarter.

Serra Catholic 26, South Allegheny 18 — In the Three Rivers Conference, Evan Honick threw for 170 yards and a touchdown as Serra Catholic (4-2, 2-1) beat South Allegheny (1-4, 1-3). Brandon Nolder rushed for two touchdowns for South Allegheny.

Class A

Imani Christian 18, Clairton 6 — Imani Christian (4-2, 3-1) ended a 29-game conference winning streak for No. 1 Clairton (4-1, 3-1) in the Eastern Conference.

Springdale 42, Riverview 13 — Josh Harmon rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries to lead the Dynamos (3-3, 2-1) to an Eastern Conference victory over the rival Raiders (1-4, 1-4). Parker Kline added 47 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Devon Binz had a 4-yard touchdown run and a 78-yard kickoff return for a score for Riverview.

Rochester 40, Northgate 0 — Three players ran for at least 100 yards as No. 3 Rochester (5-0, 5-0) shut out Northgate (2-3, 2-3) in the Big 7 Conference. Caleb Collins led the way with 161 yards and three touchdowns while Mahlik Strozier and Noah Whiteleather added 103 and 100 yards, respectively.

Union 28, Summit Academy 14 — Evan Pinkerton threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns as Union (5-1, 3-1) defeated Summit Academy (1-4, 1-4) in the Big 7 Conference. Michael Flowers caught two scoring passes and ran for another.

Western Beaver 27, Shenango 21 — Jeddy Young ran for 111 yards and three touchdowns as Western Beaver (5-1, 4-1) defeated Shenango (2-3, 2-2) in the Big 7 Conference. Raven Chandler led Western Beaver on the ground with 146 rushing yards. Shenango's Josh Young returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and scored later in the game on a pass from Maxwell Reamer.

Carmichaels 31, Mapletown 8 — Nick Mundell ran for 115 yards and a touchdown to lead Carmichaels (4-1, 4-0) to the Tri-County South win at Mapletown (2-4, 1-3). Charles Lowry added two rushing touchdowns for Carmichaels, which gained 236 yards on the ground. Mapletown's Dylan Rush, this season's WPIAL rushing leader, ran for 113 yards and the Maples' only touchdown.

Fort Cherry 32, West Greene 6 — Ryhan Culberson ran for 264 yards and all of Fort Cherry's touchdowns in its Tri-County South win against West Greene (4-2, 3-2). Culberson added 100 passing yards for Fort Cherry (4-1, 2-1). Ben Jackson rushed for 103 yards in the loss.

Jefferson-Morgan 40, Avella 14 — Despite Owen English's 213 rushing yards, Avella (0-6, 0-5) fell to visiting Jefferson-Morgan (2-4, 1-2) in Tri-County South play. Colten Davidson scored three times for Jefferson-Morgan, and D.L. Garrett added two TDs.

Aliquippa 52, South Park 0 — Eli Kosanovich hit MJ Devonshire with two scoring passes and ran for another in Class 3A No. 1 Aliquippa's 32-point first quarter on way to its nonconference victory at South Park (2-3). Avante McKenzie rushed for 136 yards on 13 carries for Aliquippa (6-0), which has yet to allow a touchdown on defense.

Brentwood 40, Deer Lakes 0 — Evan Vickless scored on a 98-yard run on Brentwood's first play from scrimmage, and the Spartans (3-3) cruised to a nonconference win on their homecoming night. Quarterback Michael Trent was 12 of 19 for 222 yards and a touchdown for Brentwood, and Andrew Wilson intercepted two passes, returning one for a 54-yard score. Deer Lakes (0-5) quarterback Ethan Bender was 8 of 22 for 112 yards and also intercepted a pass on defense.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 42, Avonworth 21 — Zack Rocco threw for 152 yards and three touchdowns as Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (4-2) beat Avonworth (2-3) in nonconference play. Joe Meinert added 107 rushing yards and two TDs for the Trojans. Derek Johncour threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns, and teammate Turner Grau caught 17 passes for 150 yards and two TDs for Avonworth.

Highlands 30, Albert Gallatin 20 — Logan Crise ran back the opening kickoff 77 yards and Jermaine Jett ran for 108 yards and two scores as the Golden Rams (3-2) defeated the Colonials (1-4) in nonconference play. Albert Gallatin quarterback Domonick Lewellen threw for 220 yards, 205 in the second half, to fuel a Colonials rally.

North Allegheny 44, Mt. Lebanon 27 — In nonconference play, Luke Trueman threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns to lead North Allegheny (4-2) to the win at Class 6A No. 3 Mt. Lebanon (4-2). Trueman added 114 yards rushing on nine carries, and John Varzdell caught five passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. James Stocker threw for 243 yards and a touchdown for Mt. Lebanon.

Washington 54, Sto-Rox 16 — Zach Swartz threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns and Nick Welsh added 149 rushing yards and three TDs as Class 2A No. 2 Washington (5-0) defeated Class A Sto-Rox (0-6).

Fort Hill (Md.) 2, Westinghouse 0 — Westinghouse (3-2) forfeited its game in Maryland on Friday after several players were injured in recent weeks, leaving a shorthanded roster.
