High school roundup: Calle Henne hits grand slam, Pine-Richland scores 8 in 7th to stun Seneca Valley

Calle Henne hit the game-tying grand slam and Iliana Aggelou delivered the walk-off RBI single as Pine-Richland scored eight times in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Seneca Valley, 9-8, in Section 1-6A softball Thursday.

It was the second win over Seneca Valley this season for Pine-Richland (8-3, 6-3), which trailed 7-0 after four innings. Maddy Myers had a home run and two RBIs and Sera Julio contributed an RBI single to the eighth-inning rally for the Rams. Abby Kalkowski and Neve Miller homered for the Raiders (8-2, 6-2).

Armstrong 17, McKeesport 1 – Isabel Prazenica went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and four RBIs and Delaney Smith went 3 for 3 with a double for Armstrong (8-5, 4-4) in a Section 2-5A win over McKeesport (2-7, 1-6). Winning pitcher Rachel Ban struck out 11 and allowed three hits in seven innings for the River Hawks.

Avella 10, Jefferson-Morgan 9 – Emily Buel hit a three-run walk-off inside-the-park home run to cap a seven-run bottom of the seventh for Avella (2-8, 1-4) in a Section 2-A win. Addyson Teagarden hit a double and triple for Jefferson-Morgan (5-4, 2-3). Taylor Shirley tripled and Emma Johnson drove in two runs for the Eagles.

Avonworth 12, Quaker Valley 1 – Winning pitcher Ali Linhart struck out eight and allowed two hits in five innings for Avonworth (9-3, 3-2) in a Section 2-3A win over Quaker Valley (1-6, 0-5). Linhart had a triple and two RBIs, Emma Obersteiner doubled and Sydney Savatt drove in two runs for the Antelopes.

Brownsville 7, Washington 4 – Lyla Gill and Emma Leigh Bailey each ahd two hits and two RBIs in a Section 4-2A win for Brownsville (6-3, 3-1). Ava Clark had two hits and a double for the Falcons. Faith Partozoti went 3 for 4 and Zkyiah Hines singled, doubled and drove in a run for Washington (4-3, 0-3).

Burrell 4, Yough 0 – Sabrina Hoover threw a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and Pyper Ferres and Christina Gural homered for Burrell (5-8, 1-5) in Section 1-3A. Kylie Odelli, Leah Boris and Jaidyn Vay had hits for Yough (3-6, 1-4).

Canon-McMillan 8, Mt. Lebanon 3 – Skylah Steban went 3 for 3 and Hailey Swope hit a home run for Canon-McMillan (8-6, 6-5) in a Section 1-6A win. Olivia Wriede drove in two runs for Mt. Lebanon (4-9, 2-8).

Chartiers-Houston 19, Fort Cherry 0 – Taryne Drilak threw a four-inning one-hitter and struck out 10 for Chartiers-Houston (11-1, 5-0) in a Section 3-2A win. Lila Schneider hit a double for Fort Cherry (0-8, 0-4). Ella Richey had a double, triple, home run and four RBIs, Lauren Rush had a double and three RBIs and Meadow Ferri homered for the Buccaneers.

Connellsville 6, Bethel Park 5 – Maggie Orndorff hit a walk-off RBI single for Connellsville (6-2, 2-2) in a Section 4-5A win. Audrey Campbell had a single, double and RBI for Bethel Park (8-3, 4-3). Cali Leichliter went 3 for 5 with two doubles and Molly Greenawalt doubled for the Falcons.

Ellwood City 6, Hopewell 0 – Amber McQuiston pitched seven innings, giving up three hits and striking out 12, in a Section 2-3A win for Ellwood City (3-3, 1-0). Riley Prestopine doubled and drove in three runs while Lena Lucarelli had three hits and an RBI for the Wolverines. Victoria Mann doubled for Hopewell (5-5, 2-3).

Fox Chapel 5, Plum 1 – Heidi Stiger had a single, home run and two RBIs and Brianna Hnatow and Giuliana Foley also homered for Fox Chapel (7-3, 3-3) in a Section 1-5A win. Jillian Haigh gave up one run on five hits with five strikeouts in a complete-game win. Riley Stephans hit a home run for Plum (9-3, 5-2).

Franklin Regional 13, Shaler 12 – Ciara Camacho had a double, two home runs and four RBIs as Franklin Regional gave up 10 runs in the first inning before rallying for a nonsection victory over Shaler. Toryn Fulton went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and six RBIs and Adrianna Martz drove in two runs for the Panthers (10-3). Alyssa Shaffold went 4 for 4 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs for the Titans (8-3).

Frazier 16, Bentworth 8 – Addison Hiles went 5 for 6 with a double and three RBIs and Grace Polkabia went 4 for 6 with a double and three RBIs for Frazier (6-2, 3-1) in a Section 4-2A win. Nora Lindley hit a home run and Zoie McDonald doubled for Bentworth (5-5, 2-2).

Greensburg Salem 6, Highlands 4 – Cate Waugaman hit a home run and Alle Scarpa had a single, double and three RBIs to lead Greensburg Salem (7-4, 3-4) to a Section 1-4A win. Carrah Scardina, Bailey Megats and Alexis Arms each singled and drove in a run for Highlands (5-5, 3-3).

Hampton 6, Beaver 4 – Aliza Michelli went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Aidan Hanna and Eden Lawrence hit a double apiece for Hampton (7-3, 6-0) in a Section 3-4A win. Abby Hojdila hit a home run for Beaver (8-3, 3-2).

Hempfield 18, Butler 0; Hempfield 14, Butler 4 – Hempfield (12-0, 7-0) swept Butler (2-11, 2-7) in a Section 1-6A doubleheader. In the first game, Riley Miller threw a three-inning perfect game and struck out five for Hempfield. Miller went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and two RBIs and Julia Varhola had a double, home run and four RBIs In the second game, Claire Mitchell hit a double and triple and Lauren Howard had a triple and three RBIs. Lily Vicari hit a home run and Kyra Olivares had a double for Butler.

Knoch 8, Derry 1; Knoch 10, Derry 0 — Knoch (12-1, 8-0) swept Derry (7-3, 5-2) in a Section 1-4A doubleheader. In the first game, Emersyn Jones hit a double, Alena Tekely drove in three runs and winning pitcher Marlee Fraser fanned 10 for the Knights. In the second game, Lindsay Wise went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Grace Hensch tripled and Kaila Purcell threw a five-inning, three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts for Knoch. Francesca DePalma went 2 for 3 for Derry.

Latrobe 10, Gateway 0 – Mya McHugh threw a five-inning two-hitter and struck out six for Latrobe (8-4, 5-2) in a Section 2-5A win. Abbie Leff hit a double for Gateway (3-8, 0-8). Julianna Bulebosh and Sara Blossey hit a double apiece for the Wildcats.

Laurel 9, Shenango 1 – Lexi Krol had a single, double and three RBIs and Hayden Seifert doubled and drove in two runs for Laurel (10-3, 7-1) in a Section 1-2A win. Sydney Byerly went 3 for 3 with a double for Shenango (6-5, 5-2).

Laurel Highlands 10, Oakland Catholic 0 – Kayla Howell went 3 for 3 with a double and triple and Aubrey Speelman doubled and drove in two runs for Laurel Highlands (5-6, 4-3) in a Section 2-4A win. Nina Hillard hit a triple for Oakland Catholic (1-7, 0-6).

Mars 15, Penn Hills 0 – Gabrielle Rapport had a double and three RBIs and Abby Robinson tripled and drove in two runs for Mars (3-11, 2-6) in a Section 1-5A win over Penn Hills (2-11, 0-7). Makenna White and Paige Lauten combined on a four-inning no-hitter.

McGuffey 15, Charleroi 0 – Nicole Klages went 4 for 4 with two doubles, Julianna Ward hit a home run and Makenna Crothers drove in four runs for McGuffey (7-4, 4-2) in a Section 3-3A win over Charleroi (4-5, 2-1). Crothers threw a four-inning, three-hit shutout.

Mt. Pleasant 9, Ligonier Valley 4 – Talia Reho went 3 for 4 with an RBI in a Section 1-3A win for Mt. Pleasant (8-3, 6-0). Dani Trainer, Gianna Stanek and Kendall Waters each had two hits and two RBIs for the Vikings. Natalie Bizup went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Elyse Witcoski homered and drove in two runs for Ligonier Valley (1-6, 0-2).

North Hills 9, New Castle 8 – Alexa Edmunds hit a double and two home runs, Abigail Sutton tripled and Lily Adamski doubled to lead North Hills (10-3, 5-2) to a Section 1-5A win. Keara Mangieri hit a home run and Olivia Hood drove in two runs for New Castle (5-7, 3-4).

Sewickley Academy 18, Rochester 0 – Keira Church went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and four RBIs, Gabby Edmunds doubled and Charlotte Andrews drove in three runs for Sewickley Academy (8-1, 5-1) in a Section 1-A win over Rochester (1-8, 0-4).

South Allegheny 13, Northgate 0 – Emma Jackson singled, tripled and and had two RBIs in a Section 2-2A win for South Allegheny (9-1, 5-0). Sydney Gordon went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Cadence McBride also had three hits with two RBIs for the Gladiators. Ava Brown threw six scoreless innings, giving up four hits. Johna Abramowicz went 2 for 3 for Northgate (7-5, 2-3).

South Park 18, East Allegheny 0 – Sydney Dubyak went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, London Latorre went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Kaitlyn Mattas drove in two runs to lead South Park (12-0, 5-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Sophia Sciulli hit a single for East Allegheny (0-8, 0-5).

Southmoreland 5, Deer Lakes 3; Deer Lakes 6, Southmoreland 5 – Southmoreland (5-3, 3-1) and Deer Lakes (5-8, 3-3) split a Section 1-3A doubleheader. Makayla Brown hit a home run and Taryn Hollis had a single, double and two RBIs for Southmoreland in the first game. Ava Shea hit a walk off RBI double for Deer Lakes in the second game.

Uniontown 6, Belle Vernon 5 – In the seventh inning, Emmaleigh Noah hit a two-run home run to tie the game 5-5 and Lyric McLee hit a game-winning sacrifice fly for Uniontown (7-4, 5-2) in a Section 2-4A win. Mia Zubovic, Taylor Beech and Maddie Grisnik had a single and RBI apiece for Belle Vernon (5-7, 3-3). Juliet White had a home run and three RBIs and Alexa Budner doubled for the Red Raiders.

Baseball

Bethel Park 2, Riverside 1 – Ethan Stanhoff clubbed a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to lead Bethel Park (2-6, 1-4) to a Section 1-3A win. Aaron Hofbauer also drove in a run and Mason Stewart got the win for the Black Hawks. Hunter Garvin smacked a solo home run for Riverside (9-2, 5-2).

Belle Vernon 8, Waynesburg Central 5 – Connor Bergman singled and doubled and Chace Petrosky drove in two runs in a nonsection win for Belle Vernon (8-2, 6-2). Derek Turcheck went 3 for 4, doubled and had three RBIs and Alex VanSickle was 2 for 3 and doubled for Waynesburg (10-1, 6-0).

Brownsville 3, Beth-Center 2 – Geno Thorpe roped a walk-off single to lead Brownsville (4-5) past Beth-Center (2-7) in nonsection play. Hunter Peehac went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Jeremiah McDonald got the win for the Falcons. Eli Wright and Brody Bebout each knocked in a run for the Bulldogs.

Burgettstown 4, South Park 2 – Winning pitcher Blake Neal and Brian Charles each drove in a run to power Burgettstown (6-1) to a nonsection win against South Park (9-2). Troy Miller and Andrew Mittleider knocked in a run apiece for the Eagles.

Ellwood City 10, Laurel 3 – Aaron Lake doubled and knocked in four runs and Jordan Keller brought home two as Ellwood City (9-4) beat Laurel (4-7) in a nonsection contest. Tyler Shearer doubled twice and drove in two runs while Connor Mackrell had an RBI for the Spartans. Cameron Mills got the win for the Wolverines.

Fort Cherry 7, McKeesport 3 – Winning pitcher Colton Temple went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs while Landon Trnavsky and Ben Demascal each knocked in a run as Fort Cherry (7-4) beat McKeesport (0-12) in nonsection play. Cualan Smith and Mason Michaels each drove in a run for the Tigers.

Franklin Regional 15, Gateway 9 – Brady Yarabinetz plated four runs, Chase Lemke knocked in three and Nico Fioravanti earned the win as Franklin Regional (8-3) defeated Gateway (6-7) in nonsection play. Bryce Rogacki went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Gators. Ryan Catello and Ethan Raver each drove in two runs for the Panthers.

Frazier 13, Monessen 0 – Winning pitcher Dailan McManus threw five scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out 12, to lead Frazier (6-5) to a nonsection win. Noah Bachinski tripled and knocked in three runs and Brant Alekson doubled and drove in a run for the Commodores. R.J. DiEugenio had the lone hit for Monessen (0-11).

Freedom 3, New Brighton 2 – Boden Hilliard went 3 for 3 with a double and Xavier Robbins doubled and drove in a run to lead Freedom (7-5, 5-3) to a Section 2-2A win. Casey Bloom hit a single for New Brighton (6-5, 5-3).

Hopewell 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – Benjamin McDonald hit a triple and James Gill hit an RBI single for Hopewell (2-10) in a nonsection win. Sevi Vecchiolla doubled for Laurel Highlands (1-8).

Indiana 12, Derry 2 – Sullivan VanHoose went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Charlie Manzi doubled and drove in a pair and Brady Oakes picked up a win as Indiana (11-0, 6-0) beat Derry (4-5, 3-3) in Section 3-4A. Anthony Sacco drove in a run for the Trojans. Caden Force doubled and had an RBI for the Indians.

Jeannette 2, Carmichaels 0 – Winning pitcher Wyatt Schaeffer threw a complete game shutout, striking out two, and went 2 for 2 at the dish to lead Jeannette (3-7, 1-4) to a Section 1-A win over Carmichaels (6-4, 5-3). Noah Rattigan drove in a run for the Jayhawks.

Jefferson-Morgan 7, Avella 5 – John Woodward smashed a home run and knocked in three runs and Deakyn Dehoet drove in a pair to power Jefferson-Morgan (6-3, 6-2) to a Section 1-A win. Logan Fedak doubled and brought home two for Avella (10-2, 6-2). Drew Adams got the win and Brayden Ellsworth earned a save for the Rockets.

Ligonier Valley 5, Deer Lakes 4 – Owen Smith delivered a walk-off infield single to lift Ligonier Valley (3-7, 2-4) past Deer Lakes (5-5, 5-3) in Section 3-3A. Duncan Foust doubled and knocked in three runs and Noah Knupp got the win for the Rams. Ben Shurina doubled and drove in two runs for the Lancers.

Mars 3, Hampton 2 – Daniel Costanza went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Timmy Joos doubled and Colin Krafjack earned the win as Mars (5-6) bested Hampton (4-8) in nonsection play. Brady Smith went 3 for 3 and drove in both of the Talbots’ runs.

McGuffey 10, Bentworth 0 – Winning pitcher Lincoln Johnson struck out nine in a five-inning one-hit shutout and Reno Presto doubled and drove in two runs as McGuffey (8-4) cruised to a nonsection win over Bentworth (3-7).

Montour 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Winning pitcher Zander Stern got the last two outs in the top of the seventh and then hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the inning to lift Montour (5-5, 3-3) to a Section 4-5A win. Luke Kosko went 3 for 3 for Thomas Jefferson (7-5, 5-1). Matteo Weber drove in a run for the Spartans.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Canon-McMillan 2 – Winning pitcher Graham Keen doubled and drove in two runs, Bret Hamel went 3 for 4 and Owen Humes had three hits as Mt. Lebanon (4-9, 3-3) beat Canon-McMillan (10-4, 6-3) in Section 2-6A. Brayden Radue doubled and plated a run for the Big Macs. Samuel Bochkoris earned a save for the Blue Devils.

Mt. Pleasant 5, Burrell 3 – Dane Firmstone and Quinn Painter each drove in two runs while Jacob Kitz got the win as Mt. Pleasant (8-4, 6-2) defeated Burrell (6-4, 6-2) in Section 3-3A. Brayden Mell doubled and knocked in two runs for the Bucs.

North Allegheny 5, Central Catholic 4 – North Allegheny (8-2, 6-0) used an RBI triple from August Maslo and three Central Catholic errors to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of a comeback victory in Section 1-6A. Colin Moore pitched four scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out seven, to earn the win. CJ Proch doubled and drove in a run and Richie Lynch singled and doubled for the Vikings (4-7, 2-7).

North Hills 3, Seneca Valley 2 – Mason Metz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and North Hills (5-10, 3-6) walked off Seneca Valley (7-4, 4-2) in Section 1-6A. Austin DeMartino went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Tristan Weimann earned the win for the Indians. Wes Conville drove in both runs for the Raiders.

Norwin 13, Woodland Hills 0 – Ethan Culbertson threw four no-hit innings and struck out eight and Matt Rivera struck out one in a hitless inning of relief as Norwin (8-6, 6-3) rolled to a Section 2-6A win over Woodland Hills (2-6, 0-6). Brayden Wardzinski doubled and knocked in four runs, Jake Sincak drove in three and Matthew O’Neil plated a pair for the Knights.

Pine-Richland 2, Butler 0 – Winning pitcher Noah Mackie gave up three hits and struck out a batter in a complete game shutout while Benjamin Husted tripled and Anthony Mengine doubled as Pine-Richland (11-1) topped Butler (7-4) in nonsection play.

Plum 3, Avonworth 1 – Ryan Lafferty went 2 for 2 with a home run and an RBI and Jake Domkowski doubled and knocked in a run as Plum (10-2) beat Avonworth (11-2) in nonsection play. Case Latore tripled and knocked in a run for the Antelopes. Winning pitcher Braden Kemmerer surrendered one run on one hit and fanned three in a complete game.

Quaker Valley 11, Mohawk 7 – Todd Kagle doubled and drove in three runs, Henry Zupanc went 2 for 4 with an RBI and winning pitcher Kolton Johnson doubled and knocked in a run as Quaker Valley (8-3, 4-2) defeated Mohawk (5-5, 3-3) in Section 1-3A. Vinny Pezzuolo homered and drove in three runs and Kam O’Lare doubled and plated a pair for the Warriors.

Riverview 11, Brentwood 0 – Winning pitcher Johnny Bertucci gave up two hits and struck out nine in five scoreless innings and went 3 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs to power Riverview (10-2, 7-1) to a Section 3-2A win against Brentwood (3-7, 3-5). Eli DeVita and Lukas Duncan each plated a pair of runs and Miles Duncan had an RBI for the Raiders.

Shaler 10, Baldwin 0 – Colby Weber and Dante Deleonibus combined on a five-inning no hitter to lead Shaler (8-3) to a nonsection win over Baldwin (5-5). Weber and Kaleb Jockel each drove in two runs and Colby McGuire doubled and had four RBIs for the Titans.

Trinity 8, Albert Gallatin 1 – Kaden Hathaway, Ian Migyanko, Ayvari Chandler, Derek Falvo and Jase Hartley each drove in a run as Trinity (5-5) cruised to a nonsection win. Evan Weakland plated a run for Albert Gallatin (4-6). Zach Schrader picked up a win for the Hillers.

Uniontown 7, Southmoreland 3 – Adam Cramer and Jamison Carter each drove in a pair of runs and Lane Smiley picked up a win for Uniontown (2-7) in nonsection play. Mayson Myers and Brian Williams each knocked in a run for Southmoreland (1-9).

Girls lacrosse

Quaker Valley 14, Freeport 2 – Lucy Roig scored three goals and Alexa Westwood, Kate Miller, Mia Floro and Leasia Karto added two goals apiece to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 2-2A win. Kate Miller had five assists for the Quakers.
