Derek Hughes smacked the game-winning RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to lift Beaver to a 4-3 victory over Hampton in Section 1-4A baseball Tuesday.
Hughes finished with a double and all four RBIs while winning pitcher Tyler Kisling also doubled for the Bobcats (6-1, 4-0). Drew Bucci brought in two runs for the Talbots (0-6, 0-4). Kisling went six innings, allowed one run on four hits and fanned eight.
Allderdice 5, Shaler 2 – Lukas Stead doubled and knocked in a run, Donovan Snelsire got the win and Zack Shook picked up a save as Allderdice (4-1, 2-1) beat Shaler (4-3, 2-1) in Section 3-5A. Joey Rispoli went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs for the Dragons.
Apollo-Ridge 8, Springdale 0 – Alexander Clawson tripled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs while winning pitcher Gage Wingard struck out six and gave up three hits in seven shutout innings as Apollo-Ridge (1-3, 1-2) held Springdale (2-2, 1-2) scoreless in Section 3-2A. Luke Bramson doubled for the Dynamos.
Avella 17, Mapletown 6; Avella 11, Mapletown 1 – Avella (8-0, 4-0) swept Mapletown (1-6, 0-4) in a Section 1-A doubleheader. In the first game, Charles Rush hit a home run and Bryce Wright, Hayden Gatewood and Brayden Fuller doubled for Avella. Carson Vanata hit a double and Daniel Fox drove in two runs for Mapletown. In the second game, winning pitcher Logan Fedak struck out 10, singled and drove in three runs for Avella. Fox singled and scored for Mapletown (1-6, 0-4). Rush doubled and Wright drove in two runs for the Eagles.
Avonworth 11, Steel Valley 0 – Mason Metz tripled and drove in a run, Cooper Scharding doubled and knocked in a pair and winning pitcher Carson Franc fanned six as Avonworth (6-1, 2-0) shut out Steel Valley (1-3, 0-2) in Section 2-3A. Jordan Smith doubled for the Ironmen. Jack Dolan went 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Antelopes.
Belle Vernon 5, Ringgold 2 – Winning pitcher Parker Lind gave up one unearned run on three hits and struck out 11 in 5⅓ innings while Kole Doppelheuer and Connor Bergman each drove in a pair of runs to lead Belle Vernon (5-0, 3-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Sam Allen and James Nash knocked in the two runs for Ringgold (2-4, 1-2).
Brownsville 7, Washington 3 – Hunter Pelehac went 3 for 4 with a double and triple and Jeremiah McDonald drove in two runs to lead Brownsville (1-2, 1-2) past Washington (1-6, 0-3) in a Section 4-3A win.
Butler 8, North Hills 7 – Boden Lenyk hit a triple and Trent Best doubled for Butler (5-0, 2-0) in a Section 1-6A win. Liam Connelly and Austin Ellis drove in two runs apiece for North Hills (2-5, 0-2).
California 3, Burgettstown 1 – Winning pitcher Caden Monticelli gave up no runs on two hits and fanned six in 5⅔ innings and Ricky Lawson gave up a run on one hit in 1⅓ innings for the save as California (1-3, 1-0) defeated Burgettstown (3-1, 2-1) in Section 1-2A. Lawson and Chase Cicchitto each drove in a run for the Trojans. Matt Bredel doubled for the Blue Devils.
Canon-McMillan 11, Woodland Hills 0 – Sebastian Shulsky tossed a five-inning one-hit shutout and struck out 11 as Canon-McMillan (5-1, 1-0) rolled to a Section 2-6A win. Troy Stimpson homered, doubled and brought in four runs, Blake Simmons doubled and knocked in two and Ben Peterson doubled and drove in a run for the Big Macs. DeVaughn Earl-Hayden had the hit for Woodland Hills (2-2, 0-1).
Carmichaels 4, Jefferson-Morgan 3 – After the teams fought to a 2-2 tie and Jefferson-Morgan (1-3, 0-3) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, Robbie Wilson-Jones hit a walk-off two-run single to lift Carmichaels (4-1, 3-0) to a Section 1-A win. Ryder Kreig went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Scott Maskil got the win for the Mighty Mikes. Deakyn Dehoet went 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs for the Rockets.
Charleroi 2, Seton LaSalle 1 – Down 1-0, Charleroi (4-1, 3-0) plated one run in the sixth and Braeden Todaro slashed a walk-off single in the seventh to lift the Cougars to a Section 4-3A win. Mike Cejrowski went 2 for 2 with a double for Seton LaSalle (3-3, 2-1). Jake Corrin earned the win for Charleroi.
Connellsville 3, Montour 2 – Grayden Gillott hit the game-winning single for Connellsville (6-1, 2-0) in a Section 4-5A victory. Dalton Young hit a double for Montour (1-4, 0-2). Matthew Firestone drove in a run for the Falcons.
Deer Lakes 9, Mt. Pleasant 6 – Noah Shurina, Ben Shurina and Garrett Waybright each hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth as Deer Lakes (3-3, 3-1) rallied from a 6-4 fifth-inning deficit in Section 3-3A. Anthony Smith had three RBIs, A.J. Reiher went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBIs and Nolan Danka got the win for the Lancers. Cole Chatfield went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for Mt. Pleasant (5-3, 3-1).
Derry 4, Valley 2 – Anthony Sacco clubbed a two-run double while Cason Long and Max Doherty each had two hits and an RBI as Derry (2-2, 1-0) knocked off Valley (5-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A. Brett Crawn and Benjamin Mehalick each drove in a run for the Vikings. Doherty started for the Trojans and gave up two runs on two hits while striking out eight in six innings to get the win. Long struck out the side in the seventh for the save.
Elizabeth Forward 5, Laurel Highlands 4 – Cy Herchelroath went five innings, gave up one run on three hits and struck out 11 while Jacob Peterson drove in a pair of runs to lead Elizabeth Forward (5-1, 2-1) to a Section 2-4A win. A.J. Grese doubled and knocked in a run for the Warriors. Sevi Vecchiolla homered, doubled and knocked in two runs for Laurel Highlands (1-2, 0-1).
Ellwood City 4, Riverside 0 – Winning pitcher Aaron Lake threw a complete-game three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead Ellwood City (5-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-3A win over Riverside (4-1, 0-1). Will Nardone drove in two runs for the Wolverines.
Fort Cherry 11, Bentworth 0 – Ben Demascal homered, doubled and finished with four RBIs and Nate Wolfe doubled and plated a pair of runs as Fort Cherry (2-3, 2-1) blanked Bentworth (1-3, 1-2) in Section 1-2A. Colton Temple threw six shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out nine for the Rangers. Ben Hays had the only hit for the Bearcats.
Fox Chapel 3, Pine-Richland 2 – Winning pitcher Tristan Blum and Kris Bandurski each had an RBI in the top of the 10th as Fox Chapel (4-3, 1-3) edged out Pine-Richland (5-1, 3-1) in Section 3-5A. Blum delivered a suicide squeeze to score Jeremy Haigh to tie it 2-2. Logan Plummer went 3 for 5 for the Rams.
Freeport 6, Ligonier Valley 0 – Dustin Kohan threw a complete-game four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for Freeport (2-3, 1-2) in a Section 3-3A win over Ligonier Valley (1-4, 0-1). Michael Hanz went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and C.J. Walker, Karson Baker and Luke Whitfield each doubled for the Yellowjackets.
Gateway 3, McKeesport 2 – Roman Jennings brought home the go-ahead run in the seventh to give Gateway (5-1, 2-0) a Section 4-5A win against McKeesport (0-7, 0-2). Donovan DeLuca went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Cameron Gottshalk got the win for the Gators. Caulan Smith doubled for the Tigers.
Greensburg Salem 8, Knoch 2 – Anthony Matthews went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Peyton Chismar doubled and drove in two runs and Brody Chismar doubled and knocked in a run to lead Greensburg Salem (3-3, 1-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Kyle Morgan and Sean Morgan drove in a run apiece for Knoch (4-4, 1-1). Pitcher Braedon Leatherman got the win for the Lions.
Hopewell 6, Ambridge 4 – Charles Smetana went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and winning pitcher Kingston Krotec also knocked in two runs as Hopewell (1-6, 1-3) beat Ambridge (4-3, 2-2) in Section 1-4A. Joe Leseiko doubled and plated a pair of runs for the Bridgers.
Indiana 10, Highlands 3 – Ryan Okopal and Brady Oakes combined on a no-hitter as Indiana (6-0, 2-0) defeated Highlands (3-2, 0-2) in Section 3-4A.Okopal struck out six and allowed three unearned runs in five innings. Oakes struck out three in two innings. Caden Force went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Indiana. Mark Collinger and Rocco Cosentino also doubled and drove in a run.
Latrobe 20, Penn Hills 1 – Joshua Short went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Andrew Hantz and Joseph Razza each tripled and drove in two runs and Cooper Basciano went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI as Latrobe (5-3, 2-2) ran away from Penn Hills (0-7, 0-4) in Section 1-5A. Joshua Vacha doubled twice and knocked in two while Aaron Gaskey and winning pitcher Cole Short had a double and an RBI apiece for the Wildcats. Anthony Sipple doubled for Penn Hills.
Laurel 6, Neshannock 5 – Kolton Carlson went 3 for 5 and singled in the winning run as Laurel (3-3, 2-2) walked it off against Neshannock (4-1, 1-1) in Section 2-5A. Jacob McBride went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs, R.J. Kissick drove in a run and Connor Mackrell got the win for the Spartans. Lucca Mezzanotte knocked in two runs for the Lancers.
Leechburg 9, Western Beaver 5; Leechburg 4, Western Beaver 2 – Leechburg (4-1, 4-0) swept Western Beaver (3-3, 2-2) in a Section 2-A doubleheader. In the first game, Jaxson Vargo, Garrett Jones and Chase Henry drove in two runs apiece for Leechburg and Vinny Ross had two RBIs for Western Beaver (3-3, 2-2). In the second game, Rocco Vigna hit two singles and drove in a run and Mason Bertino also had an RBI for Leechburg. August Lichtner hit a double for Western Beaver. Winning pitcher Garrett Jones struck out seven for the Blue Devils.
McGuffey 11, Keystone Oaks 6 – Sam Stout doubled and drove in two runs and winning pitcher Reno Presto also knocked in two runs as McGuffey (3-3, 1-1) beat Keystone Oaks (3-4, 1-3) in Section 4-3A. Lincoln Johnson and Preston Hornack each went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Highlanders. Anthony Liebro tripled and produced a run for the Golden Eagles.
Mohawk 5, Quaker Valley 3 – Vinny Pezzuolo went 4 for 4 with a double and triple and Jackson Chapman singled and drove in a run for Mohawk (1-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-3A win. Nolan Wagoner drove in a run for Quaker Valley (3-2, 0-1). Winning pitcher Briar Crawford struck out 10 for the Warriors.
New Brighton 10, Freedom 0 – Carter Jackson drove in three runs, Casey Bloom knocked in a pair and Jaxson Zahn went 2 for 3 with an RBI as New Brighton (3-3, 2-1) blanked Freedom (3-3, 2-1) in Section 2-2A. Boden Hilliard had the only hit for the Bulldogs. Brock Budacki allowed one hit and struck out nine for the Lions.
New Castle 3, Mars 2 – With New Castle (1-5, 1-1) trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Parker Bailey (1 for 2, two RBIs) delivered the game-winning hit to seal the Section 3-5A win over Mars (2-3, 1-3).
North Allegheny 3, Mt. Lebanon 2 – Nate Surman smacked two doubles and had an RBI while Nicolas Varlotta earned the win for North Allegheny (1-2) in a nonsection victory over Mt. Lebanon (1-5). Brett Hamel went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Blue Devils. Surman picked up the save for the Tigers.
North Catholic 11, Obama Academy 1 – Winning pitcher Caden Williams struck out 11 while Landon Eifler doubled and knocked in two runs and Landon Roedler went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for North Catholic (3-1) in a nonsection win over Obama Academy (3-2).
Norwin 12, Hempfield 2 – Nate Silberman and Colton Gounder knocked in two runs apiece and Brayden Wardzinski tossed a complete game, giving up two runs on six hits and fanning six, as Norwin (3-4, 1-1) cruised to a Section 2-6A win. Dylan Firmstone doubled and drove in a run for Hempfield (3-4, 1-1). Jake Knight, Matthew O’Neil and Wardzinski each had an RBI for the Knights.
OLSH 7, Carlynton 0; OLSH 5, Carlynton 1 – OLSH (4-4, 2-0) swept a Section 3-2A doubleheader from Carlynton (2-6, 0-4). In the first game, Iseia Schulz gave up three hits and struck out 13 in a complete game shutout for OLSH. Colby Lane and Sean Hudac each doubled and drove in a run, Chad Minton tripled and plated a run and Thomas Medwig was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Chargers. South Allegheny 6, Shady Side Academy 2 – Dillion Pomocki hit a double and drove in three runs, Josh Nesky doubled and Josh Jackowski drove in two runs for South Allegheny (2-4, 1-1) in a Section 2-3A win. Soren Cooper hit a double for Shady Side Academy (2-5, 1-1). Winning pitcher Hunter Fulmer struck out eight and allowed one run on five hits in six innings for the Gladiators.
South Fayette 3, Chartiers Valley 2 – Ryan Speer had the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give South Fayette (3-2, 2-1) the Section 2-5A win. Cody Bungert (2 for 4, RBI), Bo Stover (2 for 4, double) and Ethan Rose (2 for 4) each had two hits. Michael Switala had a double and an RBI for Chartiers Valley (3-4, 1-2).
South Park 9, East Allegheny 0; South Park 10, East Allegheny 4 – South Park (4-1, 2-0) swept a Section 2-3A doubleheader from East Allegheny (0-5, 0-2). In the first game, South Park’s Cooper Hochendoner pitched a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts. Hochendoner also had a double, triple and an RBI. In the second game, Bryce Berzansky allowed four runs, three unearned, on three hits and struck out 13 in six innings for South Park. Ryan Spitznagel went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Troy Miller doubled and knocked in a run for the Eagles. Jack Tomino doubled and plated a pair of runs for the Wildcats.

Thomas Jefferson 7, Baldwin 2 – Eli Graff went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Damian Bosco hit a solo home run and Noah Chalovich had an RBI as Thomas Jefferson (3-3, 1-0) defeated Baldwin (1-3, 0-1) in Section 4-5A. Aiden Robinson doubled and knocked in a run for the Highlanders. Dominic Metz gave up two runs, one unearned, on eight hits and struck out five in a complete game for the Jaguars.
Trinity 3, Bethel Park 2 – Zach Schrader threw five shutout innings and Asher Donley and Garrett Stoy drove in runs to lead Trinity (2-3, 2-2) to a Section 2-5A win over Bethel Park (6-2, 3-1).
Union 19, St. Joseph 5 – Chris Staph (four RBIs), Jalen Peace (two doubles, two RBIs) and Cole Harper (two doubles, RBI) all had three hits in a Section 2-A win for Union (1-3, 1-2). Logan Staph (2 for 4) plated three runs for the Scotties. Luke Hill doubled and had two RBIs, and Elliot Szalla drove in a run for St. Joseph (0-4, 0-3).
West Greene 13, Sewickley Academy 2 – Darren Knight went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Xavier Lucey went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for West Greene (1-5) in a nonsection win over Sewickley Academy (0-4).
Winchester Thurston 10, Aquinas Academy 3 – Benji Smuckler (3-for-4) led Winchester Thurston (6-1, 4-0) to a Section 2-A win with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Sam McComb doubled and drove in two runs, while Mason Witten (2 for 3) also plated two runs. Jonah Burchill doubled and had an RBI for Aquinas Academy (2-3, 2-2)

Stein went 3 for 4 with a double and grand slam. Abigail Shaw doubled and drove in three runs and Leah DeFelice drove in two runs for the Jayhawks.

South Range (Ohio) 7, Mohawk 6 – Giada Pauline hit the go-ahead RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth for South Range (Ohio) in a nonsection win. Kaitlyn Hare tripled and drove in two runs and Alivia Hare hit a triple for Mohawk (3-2).
