Winning pitcher Lexie Hames allowed two hits, struck out 15 and homered to lead Seneca Valley to a 3-1 victory over North Allegheny in Section 1-6A softball Wednesday.
Olivia Herrem doubled and drove in two runs for the Raiders (5-0, 3-0). McKenna Rowlands hit a double for the Tigers (3-4, 2-2).
Armstrong 17, McKeesport 0 – Isabella Praenica went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, Calise Czekanski slashed three doubles and brought home four runs and winning pitcher Natalie Zeigler collected two hits and two RBIs to power Armstrong (5-2, 1-1) to a Section 2-5A win over McKeesport (1-3, 0-2). Sydney Krukar knocked itn three and Jordyn Klingensmith drove in a run for the River Hawks. Jessica Miller had a hit for the Tigers.
Beth-Center 14, Mapletown 3 – Bella Stepp went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Sarah Bader hit a double and drove in three runs and Kendall Welsh knocked in three runs to lead Beth-Center (1-4, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Marley Shiflett and Reagan Rankin each singled and drove in a run for Mapletown (2-4, 0-1).
Burrell 15, Valley 0 – Pyper Ferres went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Santina Gamboa hit a triple and Sabrina Hoover drove in two runs for Burrell (4-3) in a nonsection win over Valley (0-5).
Canon-McMillan 6, Trinity 4 – Aurora Shirdon went 2 for 3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs while Emily Booher and Harley Tournay each slugged a home run and knocked in a run as Canon-McMillan (3-4) beat Trinity (3-4) in nonsection play. Hanna Suhoski homered, doubled and drove in a run for the Hillers. Lyla Mowery picked up the win for the Big Macs.
Carmichaels 12, Charleroi 2 – Carys McConnell went 4 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs, Kaitlyn Waggett hit a double and home run and Ashton Batis homered to lead Carmichaels (4-0) to a nonsection win. Ariahna Blouse singled and knocked in a run for Charleroi (2-4).
Elizabeth Forward 11, Ringgold 0 – Julia Johnson, Julia Resnik and Berlyn Holibaugh combined to throw a no-hitter as Elizabeth Forward (4-2, 2-0) stymied Ringgold (0-8, 0-2) in Section 2-4A. Johnson struck out six in three innings while Resnik and Holibaugh each tossed an inning and fanned two. Alivia Grimm doubled and knocked three, Resnik finished with two RBIs and Aubri Ciba went 2 for 2 for the Warriors.
Ellis School 16, St. Joseph 1 – Elyse Brennan went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Anna Keelan drove in five runs to lead Ellis School (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-A win over St. Joseph (0-2, 0-1). Winning pitcher Kylie Rapneth struck out 10.
Frazier 3, Mt. Pleasant 2 – Emme Travalena came through in the clutch with a go-ahead two-run single to lift Frazier (3-1) past Mt. Pleasant (2-3) in a nonsection matchup. Grace Vaughn doubled and drove in a run as the Commodores scored all three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Addison Hiles gave up two runs, one earned, in seven innings for the win. Kendra Brunson knocked in a run and Gianna Stanek went 2 for 3 for the Vikings.
Highlands 3, Greensburg Salem 1 – Winning pitcher Madison Gorney struck out seven and allowed three hits for Highlands (3-1, 1-0) in a Section 1-4A win. Gorney hit a triple and drove in a run. Alle Scarpa struck out 14 for Greensburg Salem (5-1, 1-1).
Latrobe 19, Gateway 0 – Mya McHugh threw a three-inning one-hitter and struck out six for Latrobe (4-2, 1-0) in a Section 2-5A win. Samantha Robi hit a single for Gateway (2-2, 0-2). Natalia Scekeres went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBIs and Sarah Blossey went 2 for 2 with two home runs and six RBIs for the Wildcats.
Laurel Highlands 10, Oakland Catholic 2 – Chloe Komacko went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Kayla Howell went 2 for 2 with a home run and Zoe Robson hit two doubles for Laurel Highlands (3-3, 2-0) in a Section 2-4A win. Nina Hillard hit a triple and Chloe Fettis doubled for Oakland Catholic (1-2, 0-1).
Mars 18, Penn Hills 3 – Abby Robinson went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Laura Craska was 2 for 3 with a homer and knocked in three and Tessa Simoni homered and also plated two runs as Mars (2-6, 1-1) defeated Penn Hills (2-5, 0-2) in Section 1-5A. Izzy DeCarlo and Brooklyn Best each went 2 for 2 for the Indians. Makenna White earned the win for the Fightin’ Planets.
McGuffey 1, Brownsville 0 – McKenna Crothers threw a two-hit shutout and Sidney Dobrzynski hit a walk-off RBI double for McGuffey (3-2) in a nonsection win over Brownsville (3-2). Nicole Klages hit a double for the Highlanders.
Mt. Lebanon 18, Woodland Hills 0 – Lily Dwyer threw a three-inning no-hitter and struck out seven for Mt. Lebanon (4-3, 2-2) in a Section 1-6A win over Woodland Hills (0-4, 0-3). Lila Gaetano had a double, triple and five RBIs and Hannah Baker and Sarah Stroh hit a double apiece for the Blue Devils.
Neshannock 14, Laurel 4 – Winning pitcher Addy Frye struck out 12 and went 3 for 5 at the plate with a home run, a double and five RBIs to lead Neshannock (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win. Miley Anderson tripled and drove in three runs and Gianna DeSalvo doubled and knocked in a run for the Lancers. Mayci Lang tripled and brought in a run and Lexi Krol doubled and drove in a run for Laurel (3-3, 0-1).
North Hills 10, New Castle 4 – Alexa Edmunds went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs, Emma Culver homered and Abigail Sutton hit two doubles for North Hills (6-1, 1-0) in a Section 1-5A win. Aliyah Stalczynski, Keara Mangieri and Mya Dwyer hit a double apiece for New Castle (3-4, 1-1).
Norwin 7, Pine-Richland 0 – Abbie Telli threw a four-hit shutout and Miley Harrison had a double, home run and three RBIs for Norwin (2-5, 2-2) in a Section 1-6A win. Calle Henne hit a double for Pine-Richland (3-1, 2-1). Graci Castelli, Isabella Deering and Makenna Black hit a double apiece for the Knights.
Sewickley Academy 15, Shady Side Academy 0 – Charlotte Andrews tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 while helping her cause by going 2 for 2 with two RBIs as Sewickley Academy (3-0) shut down Shady Side (0-1) in nonsection play. Gabby Edmunds tripled, doubled and knocked in a run and Marie Bigi went 3 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for the Panthers.
South Allegheny 3, Serra 2 Catholic – Carrera Conley hit a home run and Cameran Colecchi and Cadence McBride hit a double apiece for South Allegheny (4-1) in a nonsection win. Keyara Watkins hit two singles for Serra Catholic (0-4).
South Park 16, Sto-Rox 0 – Grace Kempton and London Latorre combined to throw a three-inning no-hitter for South Park (6-0) in a nonsection win over Sto-Rox (0-6). Kempton struck out three in two innings and went 2 for 2 with four RBIs. Latorre struck out two in one inning. Kylie Mettrick and Mady Wilder hit a double and drove in two runs apiece for the Eagles.
Thomas Jefferson 11, Albert Gallatin 0 – Aubrey Shaffer threw a six-inning one-hitter and struck out 10 for Thomas Jefferson (3-2, 1-1) in a Section 4-5A win. Maggie Quertinmont singled for Albert Gallatin (2-3, 0-2). Morgan Alisesky and Allie Chalovich hit a home run apiece and Adalina Bracco tripled for the Jaguars.
West Greene 10, Avella 0 – Emmaline Beazell went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and winning pitcher Payton Gilbert doubled and knocked in a run to lead West Greene (6-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-A shutout win against Avella (1-5, 0-1).
Baseball
Albert Gallatin 8, Uniontown 2; Albert Gallatin 4, Uniontown 3 – Albert Gallatin (3-3, 2-2) swept a Section 2-4A doubleheader from Uniontown (1-6, 0-4). In the first game,Evan Weakland went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Ben Lilley was 2 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBIs and Jason Myers yielded one run in six innings for the Colonials. Lane Smiley drove in a run for the Red Raiders. In the second game, Jacob Bellfish doubled and drove in a run, Jason Myers had an RBI and Weakland doubled for Albert Gallatin. Jamison Carter and Caleb Bartok each had an RBI for Uniontown (1-5, 0-3).
Belle Vernon 8, Ringgold 0 – Winning pitcher Lucas Judy tossed a complete-game shutout and struck out nine while going 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to power Belle Vernon (6-0, 4-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Kole Doppelheuer went 2 for 4 for the Leopards. Alex Kolano had a pair of hits for Ringgold (2-5, 1-3).
Bishop Canevin 19, Monessen 0; Bishop Canevin 19, Monessen 0 – Bishop Canevin (4-2, 4-0) swept a Section 3-A doubleheader from Monessen (0-8, 0-4). In Game 1, Brady Wagner went 2 for 2 with a triple and five RBIs while Kole Olszewski and Jamin Brock each knocked in three runs for Bishop Canevin. In the second game, Olszewski homered, doubled and knocked in two runs, Jackson Maddix and Nate Astor each knocked in four runs and Kellen Andruscik brought in three for the Crusaders.
Brownsville 5, Washington 4 – Jonathan Vasbinder went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Brownsville (2-2, 2-2) in a Section 4-3A win. Tristan Coney hit a triple and drove in two runs for Washington (1-7, 0-4).
Burrell 3, Southmoreland 0; Burrell 5, Southmoreland 2 — Brayden Mell and Stevie Hasson threw complete games as Burrell (3-2, 3-0) swept a doubleheader from Southmoreland (1-5, 0-3) in Section 3-3A. Mell allowed four hits and struck out eight in Game 1. Parker Logut tripled and knocked in a run and Isaac Lasinski had an RBI for the Bucs. Camden Underwood went 2 for 2 for Southmoreland. Hasson allowed two runs on two hits and struck out nine in Game 2. Mell, Trey Coury and Nolan Brouwer each drove for Burrell. Brenden Geho clubbed a solo home run for the Scotties.
Chartiers-Houston 6, Beth-Center 0 – Brady Gotfredson and Brady Robaugh combined to throw a one-hitter for Chartiers-Houston (3-2, 1-2) in a Section 1-2A win. Gotfredson struck out seven and allowed one hit in five innings. Robaugh struck out four in two innings. Eli Wright hit a single for Beth-Center (2-2, 1-2). Aaron Walsh went 3 for 4 and Julius Livingston hit a double and drove in two runs for the Buccaneers.
Elizabeth Forward 5, Laurel Highlands 1 – Winning pitcher Joseph Crovak struck out 11 and allowed three hits for Elizabeth Forward (6-1, 3-1) in a Section 2-4A win over Laurel Highlands (1-3, 0-2). Cy Herchelroath went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Warriors.
Fort Cherry 10, Bentworth 0 – Ryan Huey threw a six-inning one-hitter, Matt Sieg went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Colton Temple hit a home run and Tyler Wolfe drove in two runs for Fort Cherry (3-3, 3-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Bentworth (1-4, 1-3).
Franklin Regional 8, Kiski Area 0 – Chase Lemke tripled and drove in two runs, Trey Muhitch added a pair of RBIs and Brady Yarabinetz doubled and knocked in a run as Franklin Regional (7-1, 4-0) blanked Kiski Area (0-5, 0-2) in Section 1-5A. Lucas Klimkowski doubled for the Cavaliers. James Templeton threw five scoreless innings and struck out seven for the Panthers.
Indiana 9, Punxsutawney 4 – Rocco Cosentino crushed a two-run home run while winning pitcher Caden Force and Tim Birch each drove in a run as Indiana (7-0, 3-0) used a five-run fifth inning to catapult to a nonsection win. Brody Stouffer knocked in a run for Punxsutawney. Force tossed four shutout innings and struck out four for Indiana.
Jefferson-Morgan 8, Carmichaels 1 – Brayden Ellsworth went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Brenton Barnhart hit two singles for Jefferson-Morgan (2-3, 1-3) in a Section 1-A win over Carmichaels (4-2. 3-1).
Shaler 8, Allderdice 1 – Winning pitcher Colby Weber struck out 12 and helped his cause by going 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs and Evan Yeckel went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs as Shaler (5-3, 3-0) cruised to a Section 3-5A win. Zack Shook hit a double and drove in a run for Allderdice (3-2, 1-2).
South Fayette 8, Chartiers Valley 3 – Troy Skeen, Bo Stover and Cody Bungert each hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to propel South Fayette (6-2, 3-1) to a Section 2-5A win over rival Chartiers Valley (4-5, 1-3). Bungert finished 4 for 5 with three RBIs, Stover and Chaz Kosko each drove in a pair and Ryan Speer picked up the win for the Lions. Jake Federouch doubled for the Colts.
Thomas Jefferson 10, Baldwin 5 – Noah Kaszer went 3 for 4 and Andrew Brnusak, Damian Bosco and Justin Fry hit a double and drove in two runs apiece for Thomas Jefferson (4-2, 2-0) in a Section 4-5A win. Aiden Robinson went 3 for 3 and Gavin Sakely drove in a run for Baldwin (1-4, 0-2).
Union 13, St. Joseph 3 – Dom Cucitrone went 4 for 4 with five RBIs and Cole Harper went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs to lead Union (2-3, 2-2) to a Section 2-A win. Luke Hill hit a single for St. Joseph (0-5, 0-4).
Boys tennis
Section 1-3A – Gateway teammates Adam Memije and Zidaan Hassan, the top two seeds, advanced to the section singles semifinals, where they will meet a pair of Franklin Regional teammates. Meme will take on Sanshiro Ogawa and Hassan will face Collin Stalnaker.
Section 2-3A – No. 1 Advaita Sircar of North Allegheny, the defending WPIAL Class 3A champion, and No. 2 Severin Harmon of Sewickley Academy, the returning Class 2A WPIAL champ, will meet for the section title. Sircar defeated Pine-Richland’s Ryan Moore, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals. Harmon beat North Allegheny’s Sri Thirumala, 6-1, 6-1.
Section 3-3A – Shady Side Academy teammates Sal Chaudry, the top seed, and Robert Bartolacci will meet in one of the section semifinals scheduled for Thursday. Thomas Jefferson’s Rylan Barr, the second seed, will face Baldwin’s Nikita Petruk in the other semifinal.
Section 1-2A – The top two seeds, Landon Harclerode of Valley and Silas Morris of Greensburg Salem, advanced to the semifinals. Harclerode will take on Mt. Pleasant’s Aydan Gross, while Morris will face Indiana’s Gabe Nettleton.
Section 2-2A – South Park teammates Steven Duing and Jonah Jasek both advanced to the semifinals. Jasek, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 John Rohrkaste of Montour in one of the semifinal matchups. Duing, the fourth seed, will play the winner of a quarterfinals between top-seeded Max Henson of Belle Vernon and Mike Stasko of Ringgold.
Section 3-2A – North Catholic’s Justin Garvey, the top seed, advanced to the finals and will await the winner of a semifinals between No. 2 seed Will Meagher of Quaker Valley and No. 3 seed Alex Weber of North Catholic.
Section 4-2A – Top-seeded Ben Crefeld of Blackhawk will face second-seeded Zach Masters of Beaver in the finals. Sixth-seeded Mike Lanigan of Blackhawk will take on 12th-seeded Hunter Hazelwood of Central Valley in the third-place match. The top four finishers in each section advance to the WPIAL tournament.
Girls lacrosse
Butler 13, North Hills 12 – Taryn Hilovsky scored four goals to lead Butler to a Section 2-3A win. Maddie Korbel scored five goals, Mallory Lutz added four and Addy Moriconi had three for North Hills.
Hempfield 12, Latrobe 7 – Devan Bordonaro scored three goals and Hannah Goldsmith, Sammi Reilly, Lina Reese and Audrey Wagner added two goals each to lead Hempfield to a Section 1-3A win. Lexi Miele and Ryanne Lehman scored two goals and Sarah Guinther had three assists for Latrobe.
Pine-Richland 19, Allderdice 1 – Mallory Boivin had three goals and two assists and Giana Petzuk also scored three goals to lead Pine-Richland to a Section 2-3A win. Mackay Young, Cate Gentile, Addie Robb and Lily Meehleib each scored twice for the Rams.
Upper St. Clair 17, Plum 4 – Anna Capobres scored five goals, including the 200th of her career, to lead Upper St. Clair to a Section 1-3A win. Riley Powell added four goals and Sidney Schalk had two for the Panthers. Carly Venanzi had three goals and Natalie Wagner also scored for Plum.
