High school roundup for April 21, 2025: Keara Mangieri belts 3 homers in New Castle win

Pitt recruit Keara Mangieri went 4 for 4 with three home runs and six RBIs to lead New Castle to a 14-3 win over Moniteau in nonsection softball Monday.
Aliyah Stalczynski tripled and drove in two runs and Olivia Hood and Zoe Shields also homered for New Castle (6-7). Lexi McGhee had a double and two RBIs for Moniteau.
Apollo-Ridge 16, Shady Side Academy 1 – Jocelyn Snyder tripled and Madison Butler drove in four runs to lead Apollo-Ridge (9-2, 4-1) to a Section 2-2A win. Becca Schriver doubled for Shady Side Academy (1-6, 1-5).
Armstrong 16, Kiski Area 0 – Isabel Prazenica went 3 for 3 with three doubles and four RBIs and Jordyn Klingensmith had a double and three RBIs for Armstrong (8-5, 4-4) in a Section 2-5A win. Grace Yeager and Keiko Moorhead singled for Kiski Area (2-8, 1-7).
Belle Vernon 14, Ringgold 3 – Mia Zubovic and Kaylee Sypolt hit a double apiece and Katie Sokol hit a home run for Belle Vernon (6-8, 4-4) in a Section 2-4A win. Addy Allen went 2 for 3 and Alice Ramous drove in two runs for Ringgold (0-12, 0-6).
Brentwood 10, Springdale 3 – Emma Thompson threw a five-inning three-hitter and struck out 10 for Brentwood (3-5, 2-3) in a Section 2-2A win over Springdale (0-3, 0-2). Paige Boehm had a double, home run and three RBIs and Carma Coberly had a home run and three RBIs for the Spartans.
Chartiers Valley 8, Upper St. Clair 4 – Delaney O’Connor went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Taylor Walsh tripled and Lily Duffill homered to lead Chartiers Valley (7-3, 5-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Rachel Scharrer hit a double for Upper St. Clair (6-5, 1-5).
Connellsville 18, Bethel Park 7 – Molly Greenawalt went 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI and Rylee Dreves went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead Connellsville (7-2, 3-2) to a Section 4-5A win. Courtney Roberts hit a two-run homer for Bethel Park (8-4, 4-4). Elizabeth Painter and Kalyn Cole also had a double and RBI apiece for the Falcons.
Elizabeth Forward 17, Oakland Catholic 6 – Julia Resnik went 4 for 5 with a double and five RBIs, Berlyn Holibaugh hit two home runs and Addy Nigut homered for Elizabeth Forward (8-2, 6-1) in a Section 2-4A win. Natalie Waffensmith hit a double and triple and Kennedy Waffensmith doubled and drove in three runs for Oakland Catholic (1-8, 0-7).
Fox Chapel 15, Penn Hills 0 – Jillian Haigh had three hits, three RBIs and threw three no-hit innings with seven strikeouts as Fox Chapel defeated Penn Hills in Section 1-5A. Ella Eisner singled, doubled, tripled, drove in four runs and finished off the four-inning no-hitter with a perfect inning of relief.
The teams also completed a game that was suspended March 28 with Fox Chapel winning, 19-1. Adina Rosen went 2 for 2 with a double and four RBIs and Josephine Giguere had a triple and three RBIs for the Foxes (9-4, 5-4). Brooklyn Best stole a base and scored a run for Penn Hills (2-11, 0-8).
Mohawk 6, Ellwood City 2 – Mylie Pistorius went 4 for 4 with two doubles, Lydia Cole homered and Alivia Hare doubled to lead Mohawk (10-2, 7-0) to a Section 2-3A win. Crystal Folinio hit a single for Ellwood City (6-5, 3-2).
Monessen 18, Ellis School 0; Monessen 23, Ellis School 7 – Monessen (2-6, 2-4) swept Ellis School (0-5, 0-5) in a Section 3-A doubleheader. In the first game, Grace Clingenpeel tripled and Joey Hurst drove in three runs for Monessen. Maryella Wanless singled for Ellis. In the second game, Hurst hit a grand slam, Bailey Koper went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs and Lillie Mackey went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Wanless went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Ellis.
North Hills 15, Mars 3 – Abigail Sutton went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs, Emma Culver hit a home run and Natalie Anzaldi hit three doubles to lead North Hills (11-3, 6-2) to a Section 1-5A win. Sophia Soltis went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs for Mars (3-12, 2-7).
Penn-Trafford 17, McKeesport 0 – Cameron Ponko, Kylie Anthony and Lorryn Sepe singled and tripled and Giuliana Youngo went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Penn-Trafford (11-1, 8-0) in a Section 2-5A win over McKeesport (2-8, 1-7). McKenzie Bulischeck and Kendal Bercik singled for the Tigers.
Peters Township 11, Albert Gallatin 6 – Avery Carson and Braylin Fusco hit two doubles apiece and Madison Renda drove in three runs for Peters Township (3-9, 1-7) in a Section 4-5A win. Hannah Dunham and Jenna Myers had a double and two RBIs apiece for Albert Gallatin (2-7, 0-6).
Seton LaSalle 3, Burgettstown 1 – Gianna Ferrieri hit two doubles and Meadow Kennard doubled and drove in a run to lead Seton LaSalle (4-4, 2-2) to a Section 3-2A win. Andi Midler hit a single for Burgettstown (4-6, 1-3).
South Park 8, Keystone Oaks 1 – Sydney Sekely struck out 11 and allowed one run on three hits for South Park (13-0, 6-0) in a Section 3-3A win. Kylie Stahl singled and drove in a run for Keystone Oaks (5-6, 3-3). Kylie Mettrick went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, Grace Kempton went 3 for 4 with two doubles and Mady Wilder tripled for the Eagles.
Union 15, Cornell 0; Union 16, Cornell 0 – Union (9-1, 6-0) swept Cornell (3-4, 0-4) in a Section 1-A doubleheader. In the first game, Mia Pruehs struck out nine and walked one and Addie Nogay had a double, triple and two RBIs for the Scotties. In the second game, Pruehs and Olivia Benedict hit a triple apiece and Sarah Straley singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Union.
Waynesburg 3, Bentworth 1 – Gina Tedrow struck out 19 and allowed one run on three hits to lead Waynesburg (6-4, 3-1) to a Section 4-2A win. Kylie Glaze singled and walked for Bentworth (5-6, 2-3). Breanna Kerr, Avery Davis and Kalee Piper singled and drove in a run apiece for the Raiders.
West Allegheny 9, South Fayette 4 – Savanna Benish had a double, triple and three RBIs and Ava Benish and Irena Santoro hit a double apiece for West Allegheny (8-4, 4-1) in a Section 3-5A win. Brenna Dunn went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs for South Fayette (8-4, 3-2).
Baseball
Fox Chapel 4, North Allegheny 1 – Tristan Blum and Antonio LeDonne each went 2 for 3 with a double and Nick Seifried drove in two runs to lead Fox Chapel (9-3) to a nonsection win. Miles Pealer went 2 for 3 for North Allegheny (8-4).
Peters Township 3, Upper St. Clair 1 – David Oberschelp and Michael Alspaugh doubled and Zachary Miner singled and drove in a run for Peters Township (9-5, 4-3) in a 2-5A win. Winning pitcher James Stewart gave up one unearned run and struck out seven in six innings. Nolan Wilson went 2 for 3 and had an RBI for Upper St. Clair (5-5, 3-4).
Boys lacrosse
Indiana 8, Moon 4 – Garrett Goodrich scored three goals and Payne McClure added two to power Indiana in a Section 2-2A win. Parker Bowersox, Jacob Wood and Max Campisano also scored for Indiana.
Girls lacrosse
Hempfield 14, Yough 3 – Sammi Reilly scored five goals and Lina Reese, Devan Bordonaro and Ailey Helman had two goals apiece to lead Hempfield to a nonsection win. Charlotte Auckerman, Audrey Wagner and Ava Wentroble also scored for the Spartans.
Pine-Richland 13, Mars 9 – Cate Gentile scored five goals, including her 200th goal and 300th point, to lead Pine-Richland to a nonsection win. Kendyll Jerry had three goals and two assists, Mallory Boivin and Claire Mill each scored twice and Cara Murray made eight saves for the Rams.
Plum 9, Franklin Regional 8 – Ella Pedley scored four goals, Madi Stewart added a pair and Malayna Smith made 17 saves to lead Plum to a nonsection win. Brooke Price and Carly Venanzi each had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs.
