High school roundup for April 27, 2019: Penn-Trafford edges Connellsville in extra innings

Penn-Trafford kept its undefeated streak intact but needed extra innings to do it.

Mia Smith pitched 523 innings in relief, giving up one hit and an unearned run, as No. 1 Penn-Trafford earned a 4-3 win over No. 5 Connellsville (8-4, 7-3) in an eight-inning Section 1-5A contest Saturday afternoon.

Emma Little and Morgan Nedley had extra-base hits for the Warriors (12-0, 10-0).

Mia Burd gave up two unearned runs in the complete-game loss.

Mt. Lebanon 16, Belle Vernon 3 (6 inn.) — Madeline Ritenour had four hits, and Emily Amoto added three as Mt. Lebanon (4-8) beat Belle Vernon (5-11) in a six-inning nonsection game.

Baseball

Connellsville 5, Latrobe 4 — DJ Farkus knocked in the winning run in the seventh inning with his second double of the game as Connellsville (6-3, 4-2) beat Latrobe (7-6, 2-3) in Section 2-6A. Gage Gillott picked up the win, and Cameron Dodd recorded the save. Ben Shaw doubled for Latrobe, and Jake Bradish took the loss.

North Allegheny 11, Central Catholic 1 (6 inn.) — Cole Young was 3 for 3 with a double, home run and four RBIs as North Allegheny (10-5, 4-2) won in Section 1-6A.

Seton LaSalle 10, Serra Catholic 9 (8 inn.) — Nic Vari had three hits and four RBIs as Seton LaSalle (9-2, 4-1) won a Section 3-2A game.

Frazier 15, Charleroi 0 — In Section 3-2A, Frazier (11-2, 9-2) scored five runs in the first inning on way to defeating Charleroi (5-7, 3-6) in a three-inning game. Tori Washinski homered for Frazier while Logan Hartman struck out four to pick up the win.
