High school roundup for Aug. 26, 2024: Riverview opens season with shutout win over Greensburg Central Catholic

Alix Delsaut scored two goals, and Mary Quinlan had a goal and two assists to lead Riverview to a 3-0 victory over Greensburg Central Catholic (0-1, 0-1) in Section 4-A girls soccer Monday. Juliette Brun kept a clean sheet in net, and Molly Morrissey had an assist for the Raiders (1-0, 1-0).

Allderdice 3, Baldwin 1 – Avery Ruffus, Mikayla Sharif and Madison Schneider scored to lift Allderdice (1-0) past Baldwin (0-1) in a nonsection opener.

Avonworth 3, Hopewell 0 – Fiona Mahan scored twice, Karalyn Kelleher added a goal and Elena Zimmerman recorded the shutout as Avonworth (1-0-1, 1-0) beat Hopewell (0-1, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Belle Vernon 3, Steel Valley 1 – Ava Scalise, Abby Russel and Grace West scored as Belle Vernon (1-0, 1-0) beat Steel Valley (0-1, 1-2) in Section 1-2A. Skylae Salay and Rory Bastedo combined for six saves for the Leopards.

Bentworth 4, Albert Gallatin 1 – Brielle Dillon scored twice, Brina Orsatti and Megan Keturakis netted a goal apiece and Bella Moyer and Madelyn Johns each had two assists as Bentworth (1-0) defeated Albert Gallatin (0-1) in nonsection play.

Eden Christian 6, South Side 0 – Allie Emswiler scored two goals to lead Eden Christian (1-0, 1-0) to a shutout win over South Side (0-1, 0-1) in Section 1-A.

Fox Chapel 5, Shaler 0 – Emily McKee scored four goals to power Fox Chapel (2-0, 1-0) past Shaler (0-1, 0-1) in Section 1-3A.

Keystone Oaks 2, Ringgold 1 – Aly Simon scored both goals to power Keystone Oaks (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win over Ringgold (1-1, 0-1).

Kiski Area 5, Greensburg Salem 2 – Camryn Kunz and Addison Bell each scored two goals as Kiski Area (1-0, 1-2) picked up a Section 4-3A win. Ellie Arnold also scored for the Cavaliers. Olivia Smith and Grace Cardoni scored for Greensburg Salem (0-1, 0-1).

Montour 5, Central Valley 0 – Grace Bannon and Sarah Meldon had two goals apiece and Brooklyn Young also scored to lead Montour (1-1) to a nonsection win over Central Valley (0-1).

Moon 8, Chartiers Valley 0 – Julia Shaver and Emma Marquis paced Moon (1-0, 1-0) with two goals apiece in a shutout victory over Chartiers Valley (0-1, 0-1) in Section 2-3A. Luaren Muhanna and Quinn Arnold each had a goal and an assist while Ally D’Alesio and Riley LaFayette each netted a goal for the Tigers.

Peters Township 3, Penn-Trafford 0 – Paige Malley scored a pair of first-half goals and Taylor McCullough scored in the second half to lead Peters Township (2-0) to a nonsection win over Penn-Trafford (0-1). Molly Kubistek and Kaitlyn Strine combined on the shutout.

Quaker Valley 8, Ambridge 0 – Anabel Miko recorded a hat trick to lead Quaker Valley (1-0, 1-0) in a Section 3-2A victory over Ambridge (1-1, 0-1). Mia Modrovich, Ari Bosh, Anna Custer, Sophie Rosselli and June Lukasavage each scored a goal for the Quakers.

Seneca Valley 7, Latrobe 0 – Karly Majeski and Lexi Smith each scored a pair of goals as Seneca Valley (2-1) blanked Latrobe (0-1-1) in nonsection play. Anna Laquinta, Cassie Leonard and Ruby Ross added a goal apiece for the Raiders.

Seton LaSalle 4, Carlynton 1 – Angelina McGrath had a pair of goals for Seton LaSalle (1-0-1, 1-0) in a Section 3-A win over Carlynton (0-1, 0-1).

South Park 8, Charleroi 1 – Alicia Riberich had a hat trick to lead South Park (1-0, 1-2) past Charleroi (0-1, 0-1) in Section 1-2A. Ari Beck, Brie Bonacci, Taylor Vargo, Reese Recker and Ella Voyten also scored for the Eagles.

Springdale 9, Ellis School 1 – Bri Ross had four goals and two assists to lead Springdale (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 4-A win over Ellis School (0-1, 0-1). Molly Hurley had two goals and an assist, Tessa Derringer added a goal and an assist, and Ainsley Wade and Lacey Shondeck also scored for the Dynamos.

Waynesburg 2, Washington 1 – Waynesburg (1-0) got goals from Bree Clutter and Rylei Rastoka en route to a nonsection shutout win over Washington (0-1).

West Allegheny 1, Bethel Park 0 – Chloe Hart scored on a feed from Madison Pons and Ally Frueh stopped all five shots she faced as West Allegheny (1-0, 1-0) shutout Bethel Park (0-1, 0-1) in Section 2-3A.

Boys soccer

Beaver County Christian 2, Portersville Christian 1 – Ethan Guevara and Zachary Stephens scored as Beaver County Christian (1-0) defeated Portersville Christian (0-1) in nonsection play.

Bentworth 3, Trinity Christian 1 – Ryan Moessner scored a pair of goals and had an assist while Adam Moessner and Andrew Vipperman each buried a goal as Bentworth (2-0) defeated Trinity Christian (0-1) in nonsection play. Gaige Davenport added an assist for the Bearcats.

Carlynton 5, South Side 1 – Fadi Juuma, Mateo Carrasco, Austin Naman, Hamza Alezzo and Yusef Sahin scored to lift Carlynton (2-1) to a nonsection win over South Side (0-1).

Ligonier Valley 4, Jeannette 1 – Michael Vargulish-Graver scored all four goals and Andrew Donaldson made 11 saves as Ligonier Valley (1-0) won a nonsection matchup. Stephen Johnson scored for Jeannette (1-2).

Field hockey

North Allegheny 2, Fox Chapel 1 – Ryann Snowden and Addison Burns scored to lead North Allegheny to a nonsection win.

Volleyball

Mars 3, Armstrong 1 – Cecilia Christy (13 kills), Ella Nicotra (12 kills), and Lily Javor (10 kills) led a balanced effort at the net in a nonsection win over Armstrong (0-1). Gabi Weidemann finished with 40 assists for Mars (1-0).

McKeesport 3, East Allegheny 0 – Jenesis Kisasonak served up 13 aces, Anniya Simmons-Brown had seven kills and Kyra Stephenson had 21 assists as McKeesport (1-0) swept East Allegheny (0-1) in nonsection play.
