High school roundup for Aug. 26, 2025: Mt. Lebanon, Plum win early season showdowns

Eammon Nagle, Liam Frey and Victor Slack scored to help Mt. Lebanon (3-0) to a 3-1 win over Central Catholic (2-1) in an early matchup between undefeated teams in nonsection boys soccer Tuesday night.

Plum 1, North Allegheny 0 – Andy Strasser scored the decisive goal and Chase Eber recorded the shutout as Plum (3-0) picked up a nonsection win over North Allegheny (2-1) in another early season clash of unbeatens.

Allderdice 4, West Mifflin 1 – Devin Bagaya scored a pair of goals and Ethan Voight-Cherna had a goal and an assist to lead Allderdice (1-2). Cooper Hilligsberg scored for West Mifflin (0-1-1).

Avonworth 13, Riverside 0 – Calder Mahan had two goals and two assists, Sanoussy Barry and Cody Cwynar added two goals and an assist each and Nate Kline also scored twice for Avonworth (1-0, 1-0) in a Section 2-2A win over Riverside (0-1, 0-1). Liam Dugan and Carlos Miranda had a goal and three assists, Alpha Diallo added a goal and two assists and Charlie King and Erim Demirag had a goal and an assist apiece for the Antelopes.

Beaver 1, Quaker Valley 0 – Ryan Perez scored the game-winner late in the second half, assisted by Seth Kullen, to lead Beaver (1-0, 1-0) past Quaker Valley (1-2, 0-1) in Section 2-2A.

Beaver County Christian 1, Riverview 0 – Ben Crefeld scored a second-half goal, assisted on a long throw-in by Elias Bosch, and Mike Lanigan made six saves to earn the shutout as Beaver County Christian (1-0) defeated Riverview (1-2) in a nonsection rematch of a WPIAL playoff game from last season.

Belle Vernon 2, Uniontown 1 – Logan Metzger and Jesse Sobczak scored goal to lead Belle Vernon (1-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win over Uniontown (0-1, 0-1).

Bentworth 6, Trinity Christian 0 – Adam Moessner had a hat trick, Billy Moyer, Austin Hollier and Ryan Moessner also scored and Issac Vipperman preserved the shutout as Bentworth (2-0) picked up a nonsection win over Trinity Christian (0-1).

Bethel Park 3, South Fayette 0 – Xavier Jackson, Youssef Benrabia and Aaden McClelland scored for Bethel Park (1-1, 1-0) in a Section 2-3A win over South Fayette (0-1, 0-1).

Burrell 9, Leechburg 1 – Theo Watson had four goals and an assist and Vincent Guerrini collected three goals and two assists to pace Burrell (1-0, 1-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (0-2, 0-1). Kooper Luffy had two goals and an assist and Levi Blakelock added two assists for the Bucs.

Butler 1, Gateway 0 – Freshman Jude Perhacs scored the game-winner, with an assist to Everett Reges, to lead Butler (1-0) to a nonsection victory over Gateway (0-2). Thaddeus Mago recorded the shutout.

Charleroi 3, Southmoreland 0 – Otis McIntyre scored twice and Dylan Klinger added a goal to lift Charleroi (2-0, 1-0) over Southmoreland (0-1, 0-1) in Section 4-2A.

Chartiers-Houston 5, Brentwood 1 – Jhersson Cruz had a hat trick and Josh Hawkins and Ashton Kennedy also scored to power Chartiers-Houston (2-1) past Brentwood (2-1) in a nonsection match.

Deer Lakes 3, North Catholic 0 – Keegan Landsberg, Colton Bish and Peyton Kushon scored a goal apiece to lead Deer Lakes (2-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win over North Catholic (2-1, 0-1).

Elizabeth Forward 12, South Allegheny 2 – Aidan Davis had a hat trick and added an assist and Levi George collected two goals and three assists to help Elizabeth Forward (1-1, 1-0) past South Allegheny (0-1, 0-1) in Section 3-2A. Chaz Crea and Landon Galloway each scored twice and Luca Valerio added a goal and an assist for the Warriors.

Highlands 14, Valley 0 – Ryan Maloney led with six goals, Brady Celko had a hat trick and Quinn Dickerson added two goals to lead Highlands (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win over Valley (0-1, 0-1). Cainen McCann, Jackson Babinsack and Dean Besterman also scored for the Rams.

Kiski Area 3, Shaler 2 (OT) – Austin Beck scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in double overtime for Kiski Area (1-0, 1-0) in a Section 1-3A victory. Anthony Tylenda and Alex Gaetano scored for Shaler (1-2, 0-1). Ryan Long Jr. and Landon Drum also scored for the Cavaliers.

McGuffey 4, Steel Valley 0 – Jaiden Newton scored all four goals and Sam Stout recorded his third shutout in as many matches this season as McGuffey (3-0, 1-0) defeated Steel Valley (0-2, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Moon 7, Baldwin 2 – Hayden Dunn had two goals and an assist, Eric Haupt also scored twice and Jocsan Castillo, Charlie Weiler and Eric Hildenbrand added a goal and an assist apiece to send Moon (1-2, 1-0) to a Section 4-3A win over Baldwin (0-2, 0-1).

Mt. Pleasant 8, Brownsville 1 – Lukas Showman had a hat trick and Grant Zahrobsky collected two goals and two assists to lead Mt. Pleasant (2-0, 1-0) past Brownsville (1-2, 0-1) in Section 4-2A. Bryson Bankosh dished out four assists and Damien Ohler, Tyler Kurtz and Tyler Barron also scored for the Vikings.

Neshannock 7, Greenville 0 – Zayden Herb netted four goals and Caeden Turner, Mason Smith and Connor Lough also scored to power Neshannock (2-0) to a nonsection win.

Peters Township 2, Norwin 1 – Colin Froelich and Anthony Maiello scored to lead Peters Township (2-0) to a nonsection win over Norwin (0-2).

Ringgold 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – James Lytle scored twice and Nate Alvarez and Isaiah Wilson each had a goal and an assist to send Ringgold (2-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (0-1, 0-1).

Seneca Valley 4, Upper St. Clair 1 – Owen Eastgate scored two goals and Zach White and Ben Baronner added a goal apiece to lead Seneca Valley (3-0) to a nonsection win over Upper St. Clair (0-3).

Seton LaSalle 13, East Allegheny 0 – Tyler Kovalcik scored five goals and Charlie Kicinski and Keenu Brooks combined on the shutout as Seton LaSalle (2-0, 1-0) blanked East Allegheny (0-1, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Shady Side Academy 4, Freeport 0 – Manek Gerhardy had a goal and two assists and Perkin Showalter, Beau Brush and Amos Abanyie also scored to lead Shady Side Academy (1-0, 1-0) past Freeport (1-1, 0-1) in Section 1-2A.

Springdale 3, Freedom 2 – Alex Wylly scored two goals and Noah Auge added one to lead Springdale (1-0) to a nonsection win over Freedom (1-2).

Thomas Jefferson 3, Laurel Highlands 0 – Owen Householder, Cody O’Hare and Tyler Surrena scored and Sam Wessel preserved the shutout as Thomas Jefferson (2-0, 1-0) beat Laurel Highlands (0-1, 0-1) in Section 2-3A.

Trinity 11, McKeesport 0 – Brady Anderson led with four goals and Nathan Jones followed with two goals for Trinity (1-1, 1-0) in a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (0-1, 0-1). Cooper Cincinnati, John Garcia, Jaxson Gillis and Ben Peth added a goal apiece for the Hillers.

Waynesburg 3, Derry 3 – Brendan Cole scored a hat trick to help Waynesburg (0-0-1, 0-0-1) to a Section 4-2A draw with Derry (0-0-1, 0-0-1).

West Allegheny 5, Ambridge 2 – Aaron Bouch and Jonah Luffe scored two goals apiece and Anthony Mimna added one to lead West Allegheny (1-1, 1-0) to a Section 4-3A win over Ambridge (1-1, 0-1).

Field hockey

Penn-Trafford 1, Shady Side Academy 0 – Gabi Rubbe scored for Penn-Trafford in a nonsection win over Shady Side Academy.

Volleyball

Bentworth 3, Avella 0 – Nora Lindley had eight kills and Addison Pysh added six kills as Bentworth (1-0) defeated Avella (0-1) in a nonsection match. Sofia Gaussa had 10 aces, Olivia Telegraphis had 21 digs and Zoie McDonald dished out 23 assists for the Bearcats.

Brownsville 3, Yough 2 – Skyler Gates had 21 kills and seven blocks, Kenzie Adams recorded 17 assists and Ashley Evanchak added 25 digs to lead Brownsville (2-0) to a five-set win over Yough (0-1). Ari Johnson had 15 assists and 11 service points, Abby Thomas made four blocks and Amizhe Moore had 11 service points and five kills for the Falcons.

Canon-McMillan 3, South Fayette 0 – Natalie Carr had 23 kills, 11 digs and two blocks to lead Canon-McMillan (1-0) to a nonsection win over South Fayette (0-1). Journee Scott added nine kills and two blocks, Emma Anderson had five kills, Carsen Brown dished out 18 assists, Katie Wing had 12 assists and Aurora Shirdon finished with nine digs for the Big Macs.

Hempfield 3, Seneca Valley 2 – Lauren Howard had 17 kills, Jillian Sowers finished with 22 digs and Preslee Horchak distributed 35 assists to help Hempfield (1-0) to a nonsection win over Seneca Valley (0-1). Nella Bompiani made 10 blocks and Gabby Coccia chipped in with eight kills for the Spartans.

Mohawk 3, Sharon 1 – Reagan Magno had four kills and three blocks and Riley Shaffer recorded nine assists and two aces to lead Mohawk (2-0) to a nonsection win. Marli McBride added four kills, Sara Hampson had three kills and Macey Tanner handed out eight assists for the Warriors.

Waynesburg 3, Albert Gallatin 0 – Ani Cree had 14 kills, Gina Tedrow collected 13 assists and eight digs and Emily Rafferty finished with eight kills and 11 digs to lead Waynesburg (1-0) to a nonsection win over Albert Gallatin (0-1). Chatham Knight added 13 assists, Harper Grimes had six kills and three digs and Lelia McCollum had 15 digs for the Raiders.
