High school roundup for Aug. 27, 2025: Hampton knocks off No. 3 Mars

Esme Farmakis and Harper Gibbons scored to lead Hampton (2-1, 1-0) to a 2-1 victory over Mars (3-1, 0-1) in an early season clash of Section 1-3A girls soccer contenders Wednesday night. Mars was No. 3 in the Trib HSSN Class 3A rankings.
Allderdice 2, Connellsville 0 – Brooklyn Potter scored two goals for Allderdice (3-0) in a nonsection win over Connellsville (1-1-1).
Bethel Park 1, Trinity 0 – Vivian Thieroff scored for Bethel Park (1-1, 1-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Trinity (0-1-2, 0-1-1).
Butler 1, Freeport 0 – Cecelia Wolford scored to lead Butler (1-1) to a nonsection win over Freeport (1-1). Lucia Leyland had an assist and Ashton Huff made 15 saves to preserve the shutout.
Carlynton 8, South Allegheny 0 – Riley Mauro and Mary Crawford scored three goals apiece and Bella D’Antonio added two for Carlynton (1-1-1, 1-1) in a Section 3-A win over South Allegheny (0-2, 0-1). Gigi Choate dished out three assists for the Cougars.
Deer Lakes 1, Knoch 0 – Bri Simonetti scored on an assist from Clair Cacurak with two minutes left in the game for Deer Lakes (2-0) in a nonsection win over Knoch (1-2). Mikayla Potter preserved the shutout.
Franklin Regional 4, Kiski Area 0 – Ella Copeland scored a pair of goals and Allyssa Velasquez and Jocelyn Bertagna added a goal apiece to lead Franklin Regional (2-1, 1-1) to a Section 4-3A win over Kiski Area (1-2, 1-1). Addison Ayres recorded the shutout.
Freedom 4, OLSH 2 – Sophia Bruce scored a pair of goals and Jordyn Moehrle and Brianna Casto also found the net as Freedom (1-1, 1-1) defeated OLSH (1-1, 1-1) in Section 1-A.
Greensburg Salem 4, Indiana 0 – Alicia Willett, Kylie Haines-Boles, Laila McDade and Madalyn Steel scored and Abby Saville preserved the shutout to lead Greensburg Salem (1-1, 1-1) past Indiana (0-4, 0-1) in Section 4-3A.
Keystone Oaks 2, McGuffey 1 (OT) – Maddie Arment and Makenzie Muick scored to send Keystone Oaks (2-0, 2-0) to an overtime win over McGuffey (1-2, 0-1) in Section 1-2A.
Laurel Highlands 9, West Mifflin 2 – Adrianna Walker collected three goals and two assists and Camryn McClean finished with three goals and an assist to lead Laurel Highlands (1-0) to a nonsection win. Taylor Irwin added two goals and an assist and Ella Doman also scored for Laurel Highlands. Abby Jakubovic and Caroline Chelosky scored for West Mifflin (1-2).
Montour 5, Chartiers Valley 0 – Irelyn Hobbs scored two goals and Holly Zulka, Brooklyn Young and Kaci Mitcheltree added a goal apiece to lead Montour (3-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Chartiers Valley (0-2, 0-2).
Moon 3, Blackhawk 1 – Riley LaFayette, Julia Shaver and Kendall Dydek scored a goal apiece to lead Moon (2-0, 2-0) past Blackhawk (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in a Section 2-3A win.
Mt. Pleasant 5, Hopewell 0 – Morgan Gesinski had a hat trick, including the 100th goal of her career, and Sophia Coppola and Camryn Kapr added a goal apiece to lead Mt. Pleasant (2-0-1) to a nonsection win over Hopewell (0-1).
North Allegheny 8, Latrobe 0 – Kieran Shannon scored a hat trick and Jordan Beemer recorded the shutout as North Allegheny (2-1-1) blanked Latrobe (0-2) in a nonsection match. Mia Bosley, Mwende Abai, Bella Montgomery, Avery Ruffus and Luciana Zagacki also scored for the Tigers.
Peters Township 1, Seneca Valley 1 (OT) – Brynn Busch scored for Peters Township (1-0-2) and Maddy Wooster scored for Seneca Valley (0-1-2) in a nonsection draw.
Pine-Richland 3, Canon-McMillan 1 – Emme Kline had two goals and an assist and Aubrey Bennett also scored to help Pine-Richland (2-0) to a nonsection win over Canon-McMillan (1-1).
Plum 4, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Emily Grubich scored two goals and Brenna McLaughlin and Allison Porter added a goal apiece to lead Plum (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 4-3A win. Caylin Seabol scored for Elizabeth Forward (1-1, 1-1).
Riverview 5, Ellis School 1 – Mary Quinlan had a hat trick and Hannah Hudack and Catie Hoolahan also scored to send Riverview (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 4-A win over Ellis School (0-2, 0-2).
Seton LaSalle 8, Bishop Canevin 0 – Anna Porter and Sydney Morgan scored two goals apiece to lead Seton LaSalle (2-1, 2-0) in a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (0-2, 0-2). Kennedy Bakota, Elizabeth Sokos, Aubrey Sasuta and Christina Rosado also scored for the Rebels.
Shaler 2, Beaver 1 (2OT) – Addie Paladin and Naudia Zotter scored to lead Shaler (1-1) past Beaver (1-3) in a nonsection win.
Southmoreland 2, Bentworth 0 – Hannah Conn scored both goals and Megan Potoka recorded the shutout as Southmoreland (1-0-1) blanked Bentworth (1-1) in a nonsection match.
South Park 4, Belle Vernon 0 – Mady Serechin, Reese Recker, Berlin Washington and Hayley Bennett scored as South Park (4-0, 2-0) blanked Belle Vernon (1-1, 1-1) in Section 1-2A.
Springdale 6, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Adele Walters-Vrabel collected five goals and an assist to lead Springdale (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 4-A win over Apollo-Ridge (0-2, 0-2). Tessa Derringer added a goal and an assist and Mia Pesce dished out two assists for the Dynamos.
Upper St. Clair 4, Penn-Trafford 0 – Gianna Cardello, Sierra Dupre, Abby Mascaro and Audrey Bodamer scored and Cam Friday had the shutout to lead Upper St. Clair (3-0-1) to a nonsection win over Penn-Trafford (0-2).
West Allegheny 2, South Fayette 1 – Mia Bardelli and Jocelyn Rosborough scored to spark West Allegheny (2-1) to a nonsection win over Trib HSSN Class 3A No. 1 South Fayette (0-1-1).
Winchester Thurston 3, Ambridge 1 – Avi Keller, Iris Jarrin and Kimiko Smuckler scored to lead Winchester Thurston (3-1) to a nonsection win. Hayden Grant scored for Ambridge (1-1).
Boys soccer
West Mifflin 1, Hopewell 0 – Zaim Sharafee scored on an assist from Cooper Hilligsberg to lead West Mifflin (1-1-1) past Hopewell (0-1) in a nonsection win. Cayden Zablocki made 12 saves in the shutout.
Girls volleyball
Derry 3, Ligonier Valley 0 – Haylee Myers had eight kills and nine aces to lead Derry (1-0) to a nonsection win over Ligonier Valley (0-1). Julia Mucci added six kills, Francesca DePalma had five and Madison Repak recorded four kills and six aces. Kali Henigin dished out 12 assists and Cassidy Dunlap had 11. For the Rams, Rylee Monticue had seven kills and five assists, Haleigh Ross added eight assists and Marlee Miller had six kills.
Mars 3, Shaler 1 – Cecilia Christy had 10 kills and seven blocks and Rylee Wooldridge also had 10 kills to pace Mars (2-0) in a nonsection win over Shaler (1-2). Alyssa Genis added seven kills and five blocks, Reese Hazelton also had seven kills and Gabi Weidemann dealt out 32 assists.
Montour 3, Central Valley 0 – Sloane Cotten had 11 kills to lead Montour (1-0) to a nonsection win over Central Valley (0-2). Annet Christian added seven kills, Ary Camardese had five and Lily Woessner finished with four. Zoe Woessner handed out 11 assists, Cathrine Schmidt had nine and Delaney Barto added six digs and eight assists.
