High school roundup for Dec. 1, 2025: Emma Larkin passes TV reporter to break Geibel Catholic career scoring record

Emma Larkin scored 26 points to become Geibel Catholic’s all-time leading scorer, leading the Gators to a 70-27 victory over Southmoreland in nonsection girls basketball Monday night.
Larkin has 1,992 career points, surpassing the mark of 1,977 set by KDKA-TV reporter Shelley Bortz. Mallory Clemmer also scored 26 points and Janiah Darnell added 14 for Geibel Catholic (3-0). Ava Keefer scored 11 points for Southmoreland (0-1).
Belle Vernon 58, Rochester 36 – Lyla McConnell scored 15 points and Aubrey Brown added 11 to lead Belle Vernon (2-1) to a nonsection win. Kamryn Newman scored 13 points and Tia Yellock had 11 for Rochester (0-2).
Blackhawk 58, Neshannock 49 – Aubree Hupp scored 24 points and Mia Sheesley added 10 to lead Blackhawk (1-0) to a nonsection win in an early season matchup of WPIAL title contenders. Payton Newman scored 21 points and Sophia Bonner had 10 for Neshannock (0-1). In the Trib HSSN preseason rankings, Blackhawk was No. 3 in Class 4A and Neshannock was No. 1 in Class 2A.
Burrell 71, South Allegheny 9 – Casey Brancato scored 19 points and Chase Coury had 18 in a nonsection win for Burrell (2-1) over South Allegheny (0-1).
Canon-McMillan 48, Peters Township 44 – Lauren Borella had 18 points while Madison Clair had 14 and Samantha Miller had 13 to lead Canon-McMillan (2-0) past Peters Township (1-0) in a nonsection matchup. Alina Sopko scored 12 points for Peters. In the Trib HSSN preseason rankings, Canon-McMillan was No. 2 in Class 6A and Peters was No. 2 in Class 5A.
Jeannette 46, Leechburg 33 – Navarrah Smith hit for 27 points to lead Jeannette (2-1) to a nonsection victory. Adalyn Zanotto scored 14 points to lead Leechburg (1-2).
Indiana 38, Plum 26 – Addy Hutton led with 12 points and Julia Antonucci and Laken Kugler added 11 points apiece for Indiana (3-0) in a nonsection win. Tamia West scored 12 points for Plum (0-1).
Mapletown 30, Propel Montour 24 – Makenna Lotspeich scored 13 points to power Mapletown (1-2) to a nonsection win over Propel Montour (0-3).
Montour 63, West Mifflin 28 – Tiffany Miller scored 13 points and Brooklyn Young had 10 to lead Montour (3-0) to a nonsection win. Kendall Lee scored 14 points for West Mifflin (0-2).
South Range (Ohio) 52, Mohawk 15 – Taylor Dado and Kiera Winner scored 10 points each to lead South Range (1-0) to a nonsection win over Mohawk (0-1).
St. Joseph 56, Apollo-Ridge 42 – Bella Bartolovic led with 20 points and Kasey Cienik added 10 for St. Joseph (1-0) in a nonsection win. Madison Hughley scored 18 points and Josalin McCauley had 11 points for Apollo-Ridge (1-2).
Waynesburg 74, Frazier 38 – Tess Pauley led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 16 for Waynesburg (1-0) in a nonsection win over Frazier (0-1). Addonae Johnson scored 14, Emma Blair had 13 and Peyton Cowell had 12 for the Raiders.
West Allegheny 63, Hopewell 35 – Bre Guppa led with 21 points, Emma Ruperto followed with 15 and Ella Smith added 10 for West Allegheny (1-0) in a nonsection win. Cici Smetana scored 16 points for Hopewell (0-1).
Thomas Jefferson 65, Chartiers Valley 47 – Maggie Spell scored 17 points to lead four double-digit scorers for Thomas Jefferson (3-0) in a nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (0-2). Riley McCabe had 16 and Emma Altacella and Allie Wilson each had 10 for the Jaguars. Alyssa Davis scored 12 and Alex Horr had 10 for the Colts.
Yough 45, East Allegheny 9 – Evelyn Gates scores 14 points to lead Yough (2-1) to a nonsection win over East Allegheny (0-1).
Boys basketball
Ellwood City 67, Laurel 64 – Kaleb Servick led with 21 points, Aaron Lake followed with 16 and Tyler Smiley added 11 to push Ellwood City (3-0) to a nonsection win. Tyrone Kenselman scored 18 points and Tyler Stewart had 16 for Laurel (1-1).
Peters Township 54, Canon-McMillan 43 – Dylan Donovan scored 23 points and Cameron Kirch had 10 to lead Peters Township (1-0) to a nonsection win. Tayson McLain scored 11 points for Canon-McMillan (1-1).
Propel Montour 67, Mapletown 20 – Mar’Jai Porch went for 17 points while Tom Pinno (14) and TyTy Hawkins (10) combined for 24 to lead Propel Montour (2-0) past Mapletown (0-1).
Hockey
Butler 11, Westmont Hilltop 0 – Greyson Steadman scored five times, Zachary Zandarski added two goals and Anthony Tromblatt and Jase Renwick dished out three assists each to lead Butler (8-1) to a Class A win over Westmont Hilltop (0-8).
Central Catholic 4, Thomas Jefferson 3 – Chris Sargo scored twice, Julian Lappe had a goal and an assist and Cain Phillip also scored to help Central Catholic (6-2-2) to a Class 3A win. Cam Lorenzi had a goal and an assist and Jacob Simon and Michael Burns also scored for Thomas Jefferson (5-4).
Montour 4, Hampton 0 – Trey Varga led with two goals and Donnie Seremak added a goal and two assists for Montour (3-5-1) in a Class A win over Hampton (4-4-1). Ethan Diianni made 26 saves, Aidan Jennings also scored and Braden Kulak had two assists for Montour.
Morgantown 5, Carrick 4 – Brooks Nelson collected two goals and an assist to lead Morgantown (6-3-1) to a Division 2 win. Ky Byers added a goal and an assist and Cooper Cox and Justin Daffner also scored. Chris Tomassi scored twice, Landon Jeffrey had a goal and an assist and Carter Kraus also scored for Carrick (2-7).
North Hills 6, Greensburg Salem 5 (SO) – Cole Hunt scored with 45 seconds left in regulation to lead North Hills (5-3-1) to a shootout win in Class A. Hunt, Blake Kunkel and Jonathan Trosky each had a goal and two assists for North Hills. Jeremiah Faulk and Jake Fink each scored twice for Greensburg Salem (3-7-2).
Norwin 4, Baldwin 2 – Cal Constantino and Brody Boban each had a goal and an assist and Mason Hohman and Jonah Andrykovitch also scored to send Norwin (2-6-1) to a Class 2A win. Aiden Rozboril and Nate Buys scored for Baldwin (3-8-1).
Pine-Richland 5, Fox Chapel 1 – Cullen Campbell had a pair of goals and Noah Taggert, Nicholas Roupe and Jackson Naik also scored to power Pine-Richland (5-3-1) to a Class 3A win. Jack Radigan scored for Fox Chapel (3-7).
Ringgold 7, Wilmington 3 – Brady Lippert finished with two goals and two assists and Landon Vaccaro and Evan Munshower each added a goal and an assist to help Ringgold (7-2) to a Division 2 win. Beckett Miller had a goal and an assist for Wilmington (1-6).
Seneca Valley 2, Franklin Regional 0 – Leyton Moreau had a goal and an assist, CJ Gworek also scored and Chris Nicholas made 15 saves to lead Seneca Valley (9-0) to a Class 3A win. Grant Novotny made 53 saves for Franklin Regional (3-5-2).
Shaler 4, Cathedral Prep 1 – Blake Whiteman had a goal and two assists, Bradyn Whiteman added a goal and an assist and Roman Angelo and Dylan Marsden also scored for Shaler (4-4-1) in a Class 2A win. Chris Bruschi scored for Cathedral Prep (1-7-1).
