High school roundup for Dec. 11, 2025: Oakland Catholic makes Class 4A statement with win over North Catholic

Madi Pullen scored 13 points and Josie Fontana added 10 as Oakland Catholic defeated North Catholic, 43-21, in a matchup of the top two teams in the Trib HSSN preseason Class 4A girls basketball rankings Thursday night.

The No. 1 Eagles (1-1, 1-0), the defending WPIAL champs, jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the No. 2 Trojanettes (2-1, 0-1) after one quarter and never looked back, picking up a key Section 1-4A win.

Aquinas Academy 52, Union 17 – Elliot Keverline scored 18 points and Tess Duer added 15 to lead Aquinas Academy (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-A win. Maggie Joseph scored seven points for Union (4-2, 0-1).

Avonworth 75, Ligonier Valley 31 – Bria Onyshko scored 20 points, Natalie Frank followed with 15 and Meg Obersteiner contributed 13 as Avonworth (1-2, 1-0) defeated Ligonier Valley (1-4, 0-1) in Section 2-3A. Ruby Smith led the Rams with 13 points.

Belle Vernon 53, Ringgold 23 – Lyla McConnell and Aubrey Brown each scored 11 points and Saylor Lee chipped in 10, leading Belle Vernon (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Jada Gernot led Ringgold (1-3, 0-1) with 12 points.

Bentworth 54, Northgate 18 – Zoie McDonald scored 21 points and Bella Moyer added 11 to lead Bentworth (1-3) to a nonsection win over Northgate (1-2).

Beth-Center 49, Apollo-Ridge 42 – Violet Trump scored 24 points as Beth-Center (1-4) rallied from three points down at halftime for a nonsection win. Madison Hughley led Apollo-Ridge (2-4) with 13 points.

Blackhawk 59, Beaver 10 – Aubree Hupp scored 20 points, Gracen Sehn had 14 and Grace Huston added 12 to lead Blackhawk (4-0, 1-0) past Beaver (3-3, 0-1) in a Section 2-4A win.

Bishop Canevin 46, Monessen 37 – Gianna Matthews led with 16 points and Kya Cooley added 14 to push Bishop Canevin (2-2, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Madison Johnson scored 22 points and Na’Jaziah Carter had 11 for Monessen (0-3, 0-1).

Carrick 46, Carlynton 38 – Jocelyn Fisher scored 18 points and Alaysia Peacock added 17 to lead Carrick (5-0) to a nonsection win. Lucy Vetter scored 18 points and Carlee Hughes and Cydney McClendon had 10 points apiece for Carlynton (2-2).

Chartiers-Houston 55, Fort Cherry 46 – Ali Wingard scored 17 points to lead Chartiers-Houston (5-0) to a nonsection win. Isabella Cornali scored 17 points and Allison Litman had 12 for Fort Cherry (1-4).

Elizabeth Forward 74, Southmoreland 12 – Kaelynn Settles led with 19 points, Mia Sostaric and Loralie Smith followed with 12 points apiece and Addison Wach added 10 for Elizabeth Forward (3-2, 1-0) in a Section 3-4A win over Southmoreland (1-4, 0-1).

Frazier 52, Carmichaels 33 – Allie Yauch led Frazier (2-3) with 25 points and Malana Burton added 13 in a nonsection win. Ke’Lani Chun scored nine points for Carmichaels (1-4).

Freeport 49, Derry 22 – Nia DiSanti scored 17 points to lead Freeport (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-4A win. Trinity Miller led Derry (1-5, 0-1) with seven points.

Geibel Catholic 51, West Greene 45 – Emma Larkin poured in 22 points and Janiah Darnell added 10 to lead Geibel Catholic (6-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Jillissa Yeater scored 20 points and Kendra Tharp chipped in 18 for West Greene (4-2, 0-1).

Greensburg Central Catholic 78, Steel Valley 13 – Erica Gribble scored 22 points to become the school’s all-time leading scorer, boys or girls, helping Greensburg Central Catholic (2-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Steel Valley (0-6, 0-1). Gribble finished the game with with 1,771 points. Franco Sebastiani held the record with 1,751 since 2007. Avery Jones added 11 points and Georgia Evans had 10 for the Centurions.

Hampton 49, Ambridge 10 – Katie Christy led with 17 points and Harper Gibbons followed with 15 for Hampton (6-0, 1-0) in a Section 2-4A win over Ambridge (2-4, 0-1).

Indiana 46, McKeesport 24 – Julia Antonacci hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points to lead Indiana (6-0, 1-0) past McKeesport (4-2, 0-1) in Section 2-5A.

Kiski Area 59, Connellsville 47 – Jada Blanciak scored 20 points and Gianna DeVito added 14 to lead Kiski Area (4-1) to a nonsection win. Saige Mickens scored 20 points and Maggie Orndoff had 14 for Connellsville (3-3).

Latrobe 58, West Mifflin 17 – Maggie Maiers had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead four players scoring in double figures for Latrobe (2-1, 1-0) in a Section 2-5A win over West Mifflin (2-4, 0-1). Emry Bridge scored 11 and Brianna Havrilla and Natalia Scekeres each had 10 for the Wildcats.

Montour 54, New Castle 18 – Reese Vojtecky scored 12 points to lead Montour (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Sofia DeVivo scored seven points for New Castle (0-6, 0-1).

Mt. Pleasant 41, Yough 29 – Ryleigh Drzal scored 12 points and Morgan Gesinski added 10 as Mt. Pleasant (3-2, 1-0) defeated Yough (4-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A.

Penn-Trafford 63, Greensburg Salem 31 – Led by 14 points from Hanna Weishaar, 13 from Raya Johnson and 10 from Arabelle Nichols, Penn-Trafford (3-3, 1-0) picked up a Section 2-5A win. Sophie Beckerleg led Greensburg Salem (2-2, 0-1) with 11 points.

Riverside 44, Mohawk 30 – Addison Drake scored 15 points, Gabby McElwain added 12 and Riverside (4-1, 1-0) used a 9-2 run in the second quarter to take control of a Section 1-3A game. Addy Moskal led all scorers with 20 points for Mohawk (1-4, 0-1).

Rochester 57, Central Valley 52 – Tia Yellock led with 21 points, Kamryn Newman followed with 15 and Syrin Crosby added 13 for Rochester (3-2) in a nonsection win. Emma Brown scored 12 points and Caroline Spirnak had 11 for Central Valley (0-3).

Serra Catholic 57, Clairton 34 – Bella Dumbroski scored 27 points and Lexi Pearce added 11 to lead Serra Catholic (2-2, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Jamiya Brownfield scored 17 points and Karma Fuqua had 14 for Clairton (1-2, 0-1).

Seton LaSalle 68, Keystone Oaks 64 (2OT) – Ava Maroney scored 28 points to lead Seton LaSalle (3-1, 1-0) to a double overtime win over neighboring Keystone Oaks in a Section 3-3A battle. Natalie Pascarella added 11 points and Addie Dears had 10 for the Rebels. Hannah York led all scorers with 34 points for Keystone Oaks (2-2, 0-1). Natalee Tortorella added 15.

Sewickley Academy 47, Eden Christian 39 – Mikaela Mbandi led Sewickley Academy (2-3, 1-0) with 17 points and Emma Eannarino added 10 in a Section 1-A win over Eden Christian (2-2, 0-1).

Shady Side Academy 71, South Allegheny 5 – Cassie Sauer scored 12 points and Karis Thomas added 10 to help Shady Side Academy (5-0, 1-0) past South Allegheny (0-6, 0-1) in Section 2-3A.

South Fayette 82, Mars 35 – Ryan Oldaker poured in 26 points, Haylie Lamonde and Juliette Leroux added 14 points apiece and Ella Vierra chipped in 12 to lead South Fayette (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Alexis Cashdollar led Mars (2-3, 0-1) with 24 points.

South Park 55, Laurel Highlands 17 – Niko Contakos scored 15 points and Hayley Bennett added 14 to lead South Park (1-3, 1-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Taylor Schwertfeger scored seven points for Laurel Highlands (1-3, 0-1).

Springdale 33, Leechburg 25 – Brooke Cuffia, Cara Leahy and Maggie Simonetti scored eight points apiece to power Springdale (1-4, 1-0) in Section 1-A. Hayven Lookabaugh led Leechburg (3-4, 0-1) with 11 points.

St. Joseph 74, Western Beaver 28 – Bella Bartolovic scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for St. Joseph (3-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-A win. Kasey Cienik added 13 points, Jocelyn Spinelli had 12 points on four 3-pointers and Gemma Hornack chipped in 11 for the Spartans. Taraji Backur led Western Beaver (2-3, 0-1) with 14 points.

Sto-Rox 55, New Brighton 15 – Led by 17 points from Arianna Johnson and 16 from Brooklyn Sykes, Sto-Rox (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 1 -3A win over New Brighton (0-5, 0-1).

Trinity 58, Bethel Park 39 – Sutton Williamson scored 21 points and Gabby Rieg added 12 to lead Trinity (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 4-5A win. Kat Boff led Bethel Park (11-2, 0-1) with 25 points.

Uniontown 48, Albert Gallatin 18 – Aierra Jenkins scored 21 points and Lyric McLee added 12 to lead Uniontown (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 4-5A win. Paiton Louis scored 13 points for Albert Gallatin (0-4, 0-1).

Waynesburg 60, Brownsville 39 – Tess Pauley scored 18 points, Peyton Cowell added 17 and Emma Blair had 14 to lead Waynesburg (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Skyler Gates scored 23 points and Ava Clark had 13 for Brownsville (1-3, 0-1).

West Allegheny 56, Chartiers Valley 33 – Led by 15 points from Alexis Santucci and 14 from Ella Smith, West Allegheny (4-0, 1-0) won its Section 3-5A opener. Alyssa Davis led Chartiers Valley (0-5, 0-1) with 13 points.

Boys basketball

Beaver County Christian 77, Cheswick Christian Academy 53 – Ben Crefeld scored 14 points and Ethan Schmidt added 12 to lead Beaver County Christian (1-4) to a nonsection win. Brady Rochkind scored 27 points and Sam Kostick had 13 for Cheswick Christian Academy (1-3).

Brashear 58, Propel Braddock Hills 25 – Ryan White hit four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points and Jahleel Anthony added 10 points to lead Brashear (1-4) to a nonsection victory. Malik Jetter scored eight points to lead Propel Braddock Hills (1-4).

Carrick 49, Mt. Pleasant 41 – Treshawn Beasley hit for 23 points and Kejuan Johnson chipped in 10 for Carrick (4-2) in a nonsection win. Cole Massari led Mt. Pleasant (2-3) with 13.

Chartiers Valley 63, West Allegheny 25 – Julius Best scored 20 points, Julian Semplice added 18 and Luca Federico contributed 11 to send Chartiers Valley (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 4-5A win. Josiah Johnson led West Allegheny (3-2, 0-1) with eight points.

Gateway 63, Latrobe 50 – Jax Vovaris connected for 35 points and Mykel Bruce-McCrommon added 17 as Gateway (1-1, 1-0) earned a Section 1-5A victory. Ian DeCerb scored 20 points and Robert Young added 14 for Latrobe (2-3, 0-1).

Kiski Area 63, Shady Side Academy 28 – Devin Lindenfelser scored 16 points and Amaree Gonzalez and Corrado Hutcherson-Harris added 10 points each to lead Kiski Area (2-2) to a nonsection victory. Cam Mallory led all scorers with 18 points for Shady Side Academy (1-2).

Ringgold 42, South Fayette 38 – Takeo Tolliver scored 15 points and Dennis Hawkins and Braylen Lomax added 10 points apiece to lead Ringgold (3-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Braden Plasko scored nine points for South Fayette (1-4, 0-1).

Serra Catholic 98, California 30 – Kris Sharp scored 27 points and Brayden Graham added 24 as Serra Catholic (3-3) threatened the century mark in a nonsection win. Max Lape finished with 11 and Tyler Sapida chipped in 10 for the Eagles. Alan Dennis scored 11 for California (0-1).

Slippery Rock 48, Perry Traditional Academy 37 – Luke Caldwell scored 17 points to lead Slippery Rock. Chaz Jackson scored 17 and Landin Boykin added 10 for Perry (1-5).

Armstrong 7, Latrobe 4 – Jake Graff scored a hat trick, Jason Rullo added a goal and an assist and Colin Kutch handed out three assists to power Armstrong (9-2) to a Class 2A victory. Preston Miller had a goal and an assist for Latrobe (4-5-1).

Avonworth 6, Butler 5 (OT) – Linus Jesionowski had two goals and two assists, including the overtime winner, for Avonworth (8-2-1) in Class A. Cooper Powell had a goal and two assists and Jack Dolan and Austin Dzadovsky each added a goal and an assist for Avonworth. Lucus Hensler and Anthony Tromblatt each scored twice for Butler (8-2-1).

Blackhawk 5, Indiana 3 – Grant Shroads collected two goals and an assist, Finn Conlon added a goal and an assist and Bryce Leiper doled out three assists for Blackhawk (8-2) in a Class A win. Tyler Yount scored twice for Indiana (4-7-1).

Burrell 8, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Jared Wall racked up three goals and two assists, Dom Rosa added a goal and two assists and Jonah Endlich made 14 saves to help Burrell (7-3-2) past Elizabeth Forward (3-7) in Division 2.

Connellsville 12, Sewickley Academy 1 – Mason Mazak scored four goals, Connor Basinger had two goals and two assists and Matty Smith added a goal and three assists to lead Connellsville (8-3) to a Division 2 win. Jacob Stanislaw scored for Sewickley Academy (2-9-1).

Greensburg Salem 5, South Park 2 – Luke Dieter scored a hat trick, Cam Cherok and Jake Fink also scored and Ace Klingensmith dished out two assists to lead Greensburg Salem (5-7-2) to a Class A win. Josh Jackovic and Derek Goodman scored for South Park (1-9).

Hempfield 4, Shaler 3 – Nick Crupie completed a hat trick with the game-winning goal in the third period, JJ Williams had a goal and two assists and Evan Saltzgiver made 33 saves to help Hempfield (10-2) to a Class 2A win. Bradyn Whiteman scored twice for Shaler (6-5-1).

Morgantown 6, McDowell 4 – Cameron Smith had a goal and two assists and Jonavin Price and Max Snider each had a goal and an assist for Morgantown (8-3-1) in a Division 2 win. Dylan Payne scored twice for McDowell (3-8).

Neshannock 11, Deer Lakes 2 – Jacob Gruber had two goals and an assist and Grant Hennon and Reece Feury also scored twice to send Neshannock (9-1) to a Division 2 win. Max Redinger scored both goals for Deer Lakes (7-4).

Peters Township 3, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Chay Lamagna scored twice, Jacob Hlawati also had a goal and Brady Holleran dished out two assists for Peters Township (8-3-1) in Class 3A. Ben Kurta scored for Mt. Lebanon (2-6-2).

Plum 5, Mars 4 (SO) – Colby Bartos and Joseph Massarelli scored in the final 3:12 of regulation, leading Plum (5-5) to a Class A shootout victory. Bartos finished with two goals, Massarelli had a goal and an assist, Alex Amen also scored and Brody Gribbin made 30 saves for Plum. Xavier Bossola had a hat trick and Jack Tirch also scored for Mars (10-0-2).

Ringgold 7, Central Valley 0 – Benito Pesi had two goals and an assist, Bruce Santina and Landon Vaccaro each had a goal and two assists and Mason Ribnicky made 17 saves to lead Ringgold (9-2) past Central Valley (2-7-1) in Division 2.

Thomas Jefferson 5, Upper St. Clair 1 – Lucas Blose scored twice and Owen Michael and Cam Lorenzi each had a goal and an assist to power Thomas Jefferson (6-4-1) to a Class 3A win. Nevin Shegan Siniawski scored for Upper St. Clair (4-6-3).

West Allegheny 9, Westmont Hilltop 5 – John Wineland collected three goals and two assists and Noah Figley, Maddox Luketic, Talan Zandona and Thomas Slomski each had a goal and an assist for West Allegheny (6-5) in Class A. Ethan Downey had two goals and an assist for Westmont Hilltop (0-10).
