High school roundup for Dec. 14, 2024: Montour knocks off Upper St. Clair

Kaleb Platz and Colton Straight scored 14 points apiece to lead Montour to a 59-50 victory over Upper St. Clair on Saturday at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche College.

AJ Alston added 10 for the Spartans (3-0). In a battle of two of the best big men in the WPIAL, Montour’s Ama Tening Sow scored 12 points and Upper St. Clair’s Tyler Robbins had 10. Nikolas Gidas led the Panthers (5-1) with 11 points.

Avonworth 82, Shaler 49 – Rowan Carmichael hit for 34 points and Noah Goetz added 17 to lead Avonworth (3-1) past Shaler (2-4) at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche.

Cheswick Christian Academy 54, Trinity Christian 49 – Brady Rochkind scored a career-high 33 points and added 15 rebounds to lead Cheswick Christian Academy (2-2). Joseph Rosio had 13 points for the Chargers, who took a 35-19 lead at the half and survived a 20-4 run by Trinity Christian (1-3) in the third quarter. Peter Holt scored 20 points and Graham Hughes had 13 for Trinity Christian.

Erie 56, Shady Side Academy 30 – Charlie Williams scored 21 points to lead Erie over Shady Side Academy (2-4) in nonsection play. Julius Jeffries added 14 points for Erie while Willis Price-Wheeler led Shady Side Academy with 12 points.

Johnstown 70, Central Catholic 52 – Donte Tisinger scored 30 points to lead Johnstown to a nonsection win against Central Catholic (1-3). Amire Robinson added 18 points for Johnstown. Enzo Khalil led the Vikings with 12 points while Calvin Vento chipped in 11 points.

Knoch 81, North Hills 61 – Jackson Bauman racked up 31 points, including four 3-pointers, and Teegan Finucan added 24 points as Knoch rolled to a victory at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Vinnie DeFelice added 11 off the bench for the Knights (5-1). Zach Pollaro scored 19 and Nathan Schanbacher added 17 for North Hills (1-4).

Laurel 57, West Middlesex 51 – Led by 16 points from Luca Santini, 15 from Jayden Iorio and 14 from Mason Ernst, Laurel (3-3) picked up a nonsection win. Aiden Puskar scored 20 points and Carter Miles had 11 for West MIddlesex.

Neshannock 46, Poland (Ohio) 43 – Tony Perrotto scored 15 points and Jake Rynd added 11 to power Neshannock (4-0) to a nonsection win. Carmine Tukalo led Poland with 16 points.

Serra Catholic 78, Mt. Pleasant 36 – Owen Dumbroski and Mark Johnson scored 19 points each as Serra Catholic (7-0) downed Mt. Pleasant (0-6) in nonsection play. The Eagles led at halftime, 41-18. Carter Unger led the Vikings with nine points.

South Fayette 59, Allderdice 50 – Gavin Orosz scored 16 points and Stefano Vezio contributed 14 to lead South Fayette (4-0) at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Tyson Wright had 10 for the Lions. Trey Schachter scored 12 and Asher Schwartz had 11 for Allderdice (1-4).

Girls

Bishop Canevin 59, California 35 – Isabella Sysak scored 21 points to lead Bishop Canevin (5-1) to the nonsection win against California (0-1). Kya Cooley added 14 points in the win. Hayley Gibson scored 15 points for California while Addison Gregory chipped in 13 points.

Butler 57, McDowell 32 – Amelia McMichael hit for a game-high 21 points and Maline McElroy added 10 to lead Butler (4-2) to a nonsection win. Sam Clemente scored 11 and Kaylee Bithell chipped in 10 for McDowell.

Laurel 42, West Middlesex 35 – Jael Henderson scored 13 points and Maelee Hill added 11 to lead Laurel (3-3) to a nonsection win. Lucy Briggs led West Middlesex with 17 points.

Massillon Washington (Ohio) 74, North Allegheny 48 – Hannah Nicola and Delaney Pierce each scored 18 points as Massillon Washington (Ohio) beat North Allegheny (1-3) in a nonsection game. Vange Valouris scored 15 points for North Allegheny.

Moon 49, Shaler 40 – In nonsection play, Jayla Brown had 18 points and Jaedin Griggs added 15 points as Moon (2-2) handed Shaler (5-1) its first loss of the season. Maria Depner contributed 11 points for Moon while Shaler’s Reese Smetanka led all scorers with 23 points.

Mt. Lebanon 50, Bethel Park 45 – Peyton Collins scored 15 points and Cali Green contributed 12 points as Mt. Lebanon (3-3) defeated Bethel Park (3-2) in nonsection play. Ella Sabatos and Sadie Orie each scored 11 points for Bethel Park.

North Catholic 68, John Marshall (Va.) 54 – Sam Weir and Brady Wehner had 16 points each as North Catholic (2-2) beat John Marshall (Va.) at the She Got Game Classic in Washington, D.C. Lauren Reitz added 12 points for North Catholic while John Marshall’s Tierra Herron led all scorers with 21 points.

Perkiomen Valley 63, Upper St. Clair 57 – Quinn Boettinger scored 32 points to lead Perkiomen Valley to the nonsection win against Upper St. Clair (3-2). Grace Galbavy added 16 points for Perkiomen Valley while Rylee Kalocay led Upper St. Clair with 29 points.

Riverview 48, Sewickley Academy 18 – Katerina Tsambis scored 15 points and Isabel Chaparro contributed 14 points as Riverview (3-2) beat Sewickley Academy (2-3) in nonsection play. Lily Bauer added 11 points for Riverview, which led at halftime, 26-4.

West Allegheny 62, Aliquippa 51 – Alexis Santucci and Emma Ruperto scored 19 points apiece and Leila Marchinsky added 11 to power West Allegheny (4-1) to a nonsection win. Carla Brown scored 16 and Aunesty Johnson had 14 for Aliquippa (4-1).
