High school roundup for Dec. 15, 2025: Mimi Thiero makes Quaker Valley history; North Catholic evens section record

Mimi Thiero scored 28 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Quaker Valley girls basketball history, sending the Quakers to a 65-18 victory over Sto-Rox (3-3, 1-1) in Section 1-3A Monday night.

Thiero has 1,399 career points, moving past Farrah Causby, who set the record at 1,396 in 1995. Keira Watson added 16 points for the Quakers (2-3, 1-1).

North Catholic 58, Freeport 34 – Sam Weir scored 15 points, Harmony Jones had 12 and Brady Wehner added 10 to lead North Catholic (3-3, 1-1) to a Section 1-4A win. Nia DiSanti scored nine points for Freeport (3-3, 1-1).

Altoona 51, Mt. Lebanon 43 – Brionna Hudson scored 18 points and Raylin Eyer and Zaelinh Nguyen-Moore added 16 points apiece to lead Altoona to a nonsection win. Ann Tinnemeyer scored 11 points and Anessa Donoghue had 10 for Mt. Lebanon (1-5).

Aquinas Academy 55, Sewickley Academy 30 – Tess Duer scored 30 points and Elliot Keverline added 10 to lead Aquinas Academy (6-0, 2-0) to a Section 1-A win. Emma Eannarino scored 11 points for Sewickley Academy (2-4, 1-1).

Beaver Falls 44, OLSH 37 – Dreana Haskins scored 13 points to lead Beaver Falls (5-0, 2-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Lola Garner and Rowan Winter scored 10 points apiece for OLSH (4-1, 1-1).

Belle Vernon 53, Yough 18 – Saylor Lee led with 16 points and Aubrey Brown followed with 15 for Belle Vernon (5-1, 2-0) in a Section 3-4A win. Evelyn Gates scored 10 points for Yough (4-4, 0-2).

Bentworth 53, South Side 17 – Bella Moyer scored a game-high 17 points to go along with seven steals and five rebounds to lead Bentworth (2-3) to a nonsection win over South Side (2-4).

Blackhawk 64, Ambridge 8 – Gracen Sehn had a game-high 19 points while Aubree Hupp and Mia Sheesley each had 15 to power Blackhawk (6-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-4A win over Ambridge (2-6, 0-2).

Burgettstown 69, Frazier 40 – Paige Klodowski led all scorers with 19 points while Savanna Rush added 18 and Andi Midler and Emilyn Harrison contributed 10 each in a nonsection win for Burgettstown (4-1). Allie Yauch had 14 for Frazier (2-4).

Burrell 36, Knoch 27 – Chase Coury scored 13 points to lead Burrell (7-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-4A win over Knoch (0-7, 0-1).

Carrick 55, Riverview 38 – Jocelyn Fisher scored 30 points to lead Carrick (6-0) to a nonse​ction win. Isabel Chaparro scored 29 points for Riverview (3-2).

Central Valley 49, Lincoln Park 45 – Emma Brown had a game-high 22 points while Caroline Spirnak had 14 to lead Central Valley (1-3, 1-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Brooke Certo and Ashtyn Michael each had 13 for Lincoln Park (4-3, 1-1).

Chartiers Valley 36, Montour 34 – McKenna Helfrick scored 11 points to lead Chartiers Valley (1-6, 1-1) to a Section 3-5A win. Claire Bannon scored 15 points for Montour (5-1, 1-1).

Eden Christian 50, Springdale 11 – Annalese Haring led Eden Christian (4-2, 1-1) with 17 points and Phebe Falavolito followed with 11 in a Section 1-A win over Springdale (1-6, 1-1).

Elizabeth Forward 65, Laurel Highlands 24 – Addison Wach led with 16 points, Kaylin Staszak followed with 15 and Kaelynn Settles added 12 for Elizabeth Forward (4-2, 2-0) in a Section 3-4A win. Chloe Price scored 10 points for Laurel Highlands (1-5, 0-2).

Geibel Catholic 57, Clairton 30 – Emma Larkin had a game-high 22 while Alexa Morgan (20) and Mallory Clemmer (15) combined for 35 to lead Geibel Catholic (7-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-A win. Karma Fuqua scored 20 points to lead Clairton (1-3, 0-2)

Greensburg Central Catholic 67, East Allegheny 11 – Led by 20 points from Erica Gribble and 15 from Jayla Peterson, Greensburg Central Catholic (3-1, 2-0) defeated East Allegheny (1-6, 0-2) in Section 2-3A.

Greensburg Salem 71, Connellsville 45 – Vienna Jevicky led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Mya Heasley with 15 and Sophie Beckerleg and Kiona Grace with 12 apiece, as Greensburg Salem (4-2) earned a nonsection win over Connellsville (3-5).

Hampton 42, Hopewell 31 – Clare Scholtz and Harper Gibbons scored 12 points apiece to lead Hampton (7-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Avery Boyd scored 16 points for Hopewell (1-6, 0-2).

Hempfield 48, West Mifflin 37 – Ava Shipman led all scorers with 17 points while Reagan Fisher contributed 12 to guide Hempfield (6-1) to a nonsection win over West Mifflin (2-5).

Hickory 52, Freedom 41 – Gianna Flemming had a game-high 23 points to lead Hickory (1-4) to a nonsection win. Mackenzie Mohrbacher (17) and Brianne Casto (10) combined for 27 for Freedom (1-4).

Jeannette 48, Carlynton 23 – Leah DeFelice and Navarah Smith each scored 16 points to power Jeannette (7-1) to a nonsection win over Carlynton (2-3).

Ligonier Valley 46, Steel Valley 43 – Adleigh Myers scored 19 points and Alyssa Queer added 10 to lead Ligonier Valley (2-4, 1-1) to a Section 2-3A win. Amari Randall scored nine points for Steel Valley (0-7, 0-2).

Mohawk 45, New Brighton 12 – Addy Moskal scored 19 points and Makenna Stewart added 15 to lead Mohawk (2-4, 1-1) past New Brighton (0-6, 0-2) in a Section 1-3A win.

Monessen 44, Avella 21 – Madison Johnson scored 19 points and Na’Jaziah Carter added 15 to help Monessen (1-3, 1-1) past Avella (2-4, 1-1) in Section 2-A.

Obama Academy 42, Brentwood 17 – Arianna Treadwell scored 18 points and Derionna Smith added 14 for Obama Academy (1-3) in a nonsection win over Brentwood (0-6).

Plum 55, Armstrong 38 – Riley Stephans scored 23 points and Tamia West added 14 to lead Plum (6-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-5A win. Mary Duncan and Isabella Pawk scored nine points apiece for Armstrong (3-4, 0-2).

Riverside 57, Ellwood City 25 – Emma Meyer scored 16 points and Emma Stockman added 10 to lead Riverside (5-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Jadyn Allwine had 12 for Ellwood City (1-7, 0-2)

Rochester 54, Ellis School 35 – Kamryn Newman (16 points) and Tia Yellock (15) combined for 31 to lead Rochester (4-2) to a nonsection win. Angelina Jones scored 20 points while Syree Spencer had 15 points for Ellis School (1-4).

Serra Catholic 70, Bishop Canevin 38 – Bella Dombroski went off for 29 points to lead Serra Catholic (3-2, 2-0) to a Section 2-A win. Abby Genes had 12 and Lexi Pearce added 11 for the Eagles. Kya Cooley scored 13 and Isabella Sysak had 11 for Bishop Canevin (2-3, 1-1).

Seton LaSalle 64, Charleroi 36 – Ava Maroney led four double-digit scorers with 19 as Seton LaSalle (4-1, 2-0) got the Section 3-3A win. Natalie Pascarella and Addy Dears each had 11 while Casey Davis had 10 for the Rebels. Eden Smith scored 20 points for Charleroi (3-3, 0-2).

Shady Side Academy 55, Avonworth 27 – Karis Thomas led with 18 points and Cassie Sauer added 13 for Shady Side Academy (6-0, 2-0) in a Section 2-3A win. Bria Onyshko scored 13 points for Avonworth (1-3, 1-1).

Shaler 45, Pine-Richland 40 (OT) – Reese Smetanka led Shaler (5-1) with 31 points in a nonsection win in overtime. Mia LeDonne scored 14 points and Cate Gentile had 10 for Pine-Richland (1-5).

South Fayette 64, West Allegheny 23 – Juliette Leroux scored 18 points, Lailah Wright had 14 and Ryan Oldaker added 11 to lead South Fayette (6-0, 2-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Sky Gubba scored nine points for West Allegheny (4-1, 1-1).

South Park 43, Mt. Pleasant 23 – Nika Contakos scored 14 points, Hayley Bennett had 13 and Bella Stromberg added 12 as South Park (2-3, 2-0) earned the Section 3-4A win over Mt. Pleasant (3-3, 1-1).

Union 59, Western Beaver 23 – Maggie Joseph scored 12 points, Ally Symons added 11 points and 11 rebounds and Olivia Benedict also had 11 points for Union (5-2, 1-1) in Section 1-A. Liz Squicquero led Western Beaver (2-4, 0-2) with 14 points.

Uniontown 80, Turkeyfoot Valley 25 – Aierra Jenkins scored 32 points, Charley Murtha added 19 and Tessa Nicholson contributed 13 to send Uniontown (5-1) to a nonsection win. Emma Holliday scored 11 for Turkeyfoot Valley.

Waynesburg 58, Chartiers-Houston 52 – Four players scored in double digits for Waynesburg (5-0, 1-0), led by Tess Pauley’s 19. Chatham Knight had 13 and Emma Blair and Addonae Johnson each had 11 for the Raiders. Allison Wingard had a game-high 22 while Ava Kolovich had 11 for Chartiers-Houston (5-1).

Boys basketball

Belle Vernon 83, Uniontown 77 – Curtis Wade led with 32 points, including seven in overtime, and Luca Ghilani added 20 for Belle Vernon (4-3) in a nonsection win. Isaac Ellsworth scored 30 points and Cam Dugan had 18 for Uniontown (3-2).

Central Valley 74, Southmoreland 46 – Ryan Conti scored 18 points, Angelo Conti added 13, Wyatt Clark had 12 and Isaac Huber chipped in 10 as Central Valley (6-0) got the nonsection win over Southmoreland (2-3).

Charleroi 90, California 57 – Xavion Thomas led with 17 points, Brayden Todaro and Grant Shields followed with 16 and Jackson Keranko added 14 for Charleroi (3-3) in a nonsection win. Weston Monticelli scored 17 points and Ben Ziolecki had 14 for California (0-3).

New Castle 51, Woodland Hills 41 – Kai Cox scored 15 points and Damian Harrison and Marino Graham added 10 points each to lead New Castle (6-0, 2-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Scoop Smith scored 14 for Woodland Hills (4-2, 1-1).

Ringgold 63, South Park 50 – Takeo Tolliver scored 25 points, including six 3-pointers, and Dennis Hawkins and David Wachinski each had 10 as Ringgold (4-1) defeated South Park (4-1) in nonsection play. Copper Hochendoner had 21 and Luke Scarff had 18 for the Eagles.

Winchester Thurston 59, Shady Side Academy 49 – Mike Hammerling scored 22 points and Anthony Pipkin added 11 to push Winchester Thurston (5-1) to a nonsection win. Willis Price-Wheeler scored 14 points and Alex Demchek had 13 for Shady Side Academy (1-3).

Hockey

Butler 3, North Hills 2 (OT) – Aden Devore scored the overtime winner, Lucus Hensler had a goal and an assist and Marty Parker also scored for Butler (9-2-1) in a Class A win. Grant Koller and Brady Peterson scored for North Hills (6-4-2).

Franklin Regional 2, Fox Chapel 1 – Ryan Crouse scored both goals and Payson Neff made 15 saves to lead Franklin Regional (4-5-2) to a Class 3A win. Keita Komatsu scored and Grant Watson made 25 saves for Fox Chapel (5-8).

Moon 9, Freeport 1 – Eric Hartman scored four goals, Clayton Foster added a pair and Gio Thompson and Jordan Rieke added a goal and two assists apiece to power Moon (9-2-2) to a Class A win. Aiden Bauman scored for Freeport (2-6-1).

Norwin 6, Wheeling Park 1 – Brady Boban scored a hat trick, Josh Toth added two goals, Jonah Andrykovitch also scored and Zayn Zeravica dished out three assists to lead Norwin (3-8-1) to a Class 2A win. Luke Simonetti scored for Wheeling Park (3-6-2).

Peters Township 4, North Allegheny 1 – Blake Evancic had a goal and an assist and Domenic Yosi, Thomas Dowden V and Jacob Hlawati also scored to lead Peters Township (9-3-1) to a Class 3A win. Cedric Otey scored for North Allegheny (6-3-3).

Quaker Valley 9, North Catholic 2 – Matthias Lezama collected three goals and three assists, Max Modrovich had three goals and two assists and Charlie Pyle added a goal and four assists to lead Quaker Valley (10-1-1) to a Class A win. Landon Meyers had a goal and an assist for North Catholic (5-5-1).

Seneca Valley 4, Pine-Richland 3 (SO) – John Sroka scored the tying goal in the third period and the winning goal in the shootout to lead Seneca Valley (11-0) to a Class 3A victory over Pine-Richland (6-3-2). Carson Lindberg Carter Hoehn had the other two regulation goals for the Raiders. Cullen Campbell had two goals while Carson Verszyla had one for the Rams.

Trinity 7, Sewickley Academy 2 – Zach Jiblits scored a hat trick, Seamus Coyle had two goals and an assist, Henry Coyle finished with a goal and three assists and Ian Vranek also scored to send Trinity (4-4) to a Division 2 win. Max Kopf and Arjun Kathju scored for Sewickley Academy (2-10-1).

Wilmington 5, Neshannock 3 – Alex Rodgers and Jacob Otto each scored two goals to lead Wilmington (3-6) to a Division 2 win. Becket Miller a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds. Grant Hennon, Shane Johns and Travis Covelli scored for Neshannock (9-2).
