High school roundup for Dec. 17, 2025: Seneca Valley jumps on North Allegheny for section win

Natalie Hambly scored 12 points to lead Seneca Valley to a 45-24 victory over North Allegheny in a Section 1-6A girls basketball clash Wednesday night.

The Raiders (3-4, 1-0) jumped out to a 30-9 lead at halftime. Rosalia Varlotta had 24 points to lead the Tigers (2-5, 0-1).

Allderdice 58, Fox Chapel 44 – Bailey White went off for 32 points to lead Allderdice (5-1) to a nonsection win. Emily McKee and Lyla Jablon each had 12 for Fox Chapel (3-4).

Fort Cherry 64, Carlynton 13 – Four players reached double figures for Fort Cherry (3-4, 1-0), led by Brooke Cornali’s 21 points. Allison Litman had 12, Gianna Bianchini had 11 and Julie Klose had 10 in the Rangers’ Section 2-2A win over Carlynton (2-4, 0-1).

Freedom 45, Ambridge 37 – Trinity Vojtko scored 14 to lead Freedom (2-4) to a nonsection win. Myriah Smith had 14 for Ambridge (2-7, 0-2).

Geibel Catholic 62, Bishop Canevin 29 – Mallory Clemmer scored a game-high 27 points, Alexa Morgan added 16 and Emma Larkin chipped in 13 as Geibel Catholic (8-0, 3-0) earned the Section 2-A win. Isabella Sysak had 10 for Bishop Canevin (2-4, 1-2)

Keystone Oaks 52, Brentwood 35 – Hannah York scored 18 points while Nina Deweese and Natalee Tortorella each added 14 to lead Keystone Oaks (3-3) to a nonsection win over Brentwood (0-7).

Ligonier Valley 39, Steel Valley 36 – Adleigh Myers scored 11 points and Ligonier Valley (3-4, 2-1) erupted for 24 third-quarter points in a Section 2-3A win. Heaven Eason scored 11 points and Linajah Tyler had 10 for Steel Valley (0-8, 0-3).

Lincoln Park 55, Sewickley Academy 42 – Ashtyn Michael had a game-high 23 points while Scarlet D’Amico followed with 14 to lead Lincoln Park (5-3, 1-1) to a nonsection win. Charlotte Morton had 14 and Nina Caputo added 13 for Sewickley Academy (2-5, 1-1).

Propel Braddock Hills 52, Westinghouse 44 – Trinity Finney and Khaliah Pegeus hit for 15 points apiece while Sariah Davoren had 11 for Propel Braddock Hills (4-1, 1-1) in its nonsection win. Desirata Mensah-Agyekum had a game-high 19 points for Westinghouse (4-1) while Ryera Carrington had 12.

Shaler 43, Moon 38 – Reese Smetanka scored 25 points to lead Shaler (6-1, 2-0) to a nonsection win. Avery Pacheco had 13 for Moon (3-3, 1-0).

Western Beaver 53, Leechburg 29 – Liz Squicquero erupted for 32 points to lead Western Beaver (3-4, 1-2) to a Section 1-A win. Taraji Backur had 17 points for the Golden Beavers. Leechburg (3-6, 0-3) was led by Eastyn Clark’s 17 points.

Boys basketball

Apollo-Ridge 59, St. Joseph 25 – Alex Clawson scored 11 points and Brayden Myers had 10 to lead Apollo-Ridge (5-2) to a nonsection win. Nick Tometsko had 11 to lead St. Joseph (2-4).

Brentwood 70, Carlynton 58 – Deng Mu was the game-high scorer with 26 points to lead Brentwood (2-5, 0-2) to a nonsection win. Dwayne Fisher and Isaac Anker each had 15 for Carlynton (2-4) while Ishaga Barre had 10.

Chartiers-Houston 56, Waynesburg 53 – Wesley Yeater hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to finish with a career-high 20 points in a nonsection win for Chartiers-Houston (5-2). Brody McCrerey added 16 and Aaron Walsh had 12 for the Bucs. Waynesburg (2-4) was led by Dane Woods with 22, Austin Surber with 11 and Jackson Dean with 11.

Cornell 54, Brashear 52 – Edwardo Benitez scored 26 points to lead Cornell (2-4) to a nonsection win. Terrance Collington and Zyair Dupree each had 10 for the Raiders. Trevon Rosario-Jones scored 15 while Ryan White had 10 for Brashear (2-5).

Grove City 73, Blackhawk 63 – Nick Earman scored 24 points, Ben Fischer had 19 and Kyle Osborn added 14 to help Grove City (3-4) to a nonsection win. Carter Davis had 24 for Blackhawk (2-5, 0-2), followed by Marco Fusetti with 14.

Mohawk 52, Avonworth 39 – Bobby Fadden scored 22 points, Joey Nail had 13, Drew Wrona had 10 and Mohawk (5-1, 2-0) to a nonsection win over Avonworth (0-5).

Perry Traditional Academy 56, Environmental Charter 51 – Landen Boykin went off for 31 points while Chaz Jackson had 10 to lead Perry Traditional Academy (2-6) to a nonsection win. Delron Lowe led Environmental Charter (2-2) with 12 while Tyler Hurst (11) and Gerard Wiliams (10) had 21 points combined.

Albert Gallatin 68, Laurel Highlands 6 – Albert Gallatin (5-2) won the first 10 contested bouts in a nonsection victory. Greyson Morris (114), Bryce Kelley (127), Reese Williams (133), Clayton Bolinger (145), Jordan Toth (152) and Wyatt Wilson (160) had pins and Colin Rockwell (285), Julius Poole (139), Nick Hillyard (172) and Roman Smith (189) won by tech fall for the Colonials. Marion Jones (215) had a pin for Laurel Highlands (0-8).

Blackhawk 30, Beaver 14 – Dylan Bonnar (152) and Dane Sherrill (172) had pins to help Blackhawk (1-2) to a nonsection win. Atlas Kosmal (114) won by decision and Dylan Ferricks (133) by tech fall for Beaver (0-5).

Chartiers-Houston 40, Keystone Oaks 36 – Jacob Lyle (285) won by fall at heavyweight to secure a comeback nonsection win for Chartiers-Houston (5-2). Holdyn Humphries (107), John Dove (121), Caleb Tewell (152) and Colton Gee (189) had pins and Angelo Mele (160) won by major decision for the Bucs. Ryder Gearhart (114), Dominic Sims (133), Dylan Jones (139), Jeremy Wagner (145) and Austin Fabry (172) had pins for Keystone Oaks (4-3).

Ellwood City 30, North Catholic 29 – North Catholic (1-8, 0-2) won three of four contested bouts but forfeited seven weights in Section 4-2A. Danny Viscuso (215) had a pin for Ellwood City (2-1, 1-1). Michael Pierro (127) won by tech fall and Rhylan Greene (152) and Andrew Baird (189) had pins for the Trojans.

Franklin Regional 56, Gateway 16 – Salvatore Colangelo (114), Titus Colangelo (127) and Salvatore Nassif (133) recorded pins in the first three contested weights to spark No. 1 Franklin Regional (11-0, 1-0) to a Section 9-3A win. Chase Smith (145), Evan McManis (189) and John Montgomery (285) also had pins, Max Firestine (152) won by tech fall and Ethan Cartwright (172) won a decision for the Panthers. Hempfield 51, Mt. Pleasant 24 – Ty King (133), Murphy Sheridan (139) and Jacob Halsted (145) won the first three contested bouts by fall to spark Hempfield (4-2) to a nonsection win. Dominic Magill (160) also won by decision for the Spartans. Tristan Wtorkiewicz (152), Juan Jusino (172) and Payton Schaum (285) had pins for Mt. Pleasant (4-7).

McGuffey 60, Waynesburg 15 – Clayton Ealy (127), Lane Ealy (133), Lucas Barr (139), Michael Cosato (145), Victor Bonus (152) and Kash Main (172) recorded pins in the first six contested bouts to send McGuffey (8-0) to a nonsection win. Ky-mani Sumpter (189) won a decision and Roan Tustin (215) had a pin for Waynesburg (2-6).

North Allegheny 50, Mars 20 – Joseph Synan (107) and Dalton Stragand (121) recorded pins and Bryce Prosser (114) and Evan Schomburg (127) won by major decision as North Allegheny (7-1, 1-0) won the first four weights en route to a Section 4-3A win. Griffen Reid (152), Gabriel Hernandez (160), Brody Barnhart (172) and Charles Miller (215) also collected pins for the Tigers. Parker Joseph (133) won a decision, Samuel Passarelli (145) won via injury default and Liam Corcoran (189) took a tech fall for Mars (4-4, 1-1).

Obama Academy 62, Carrick 6 – Daniel Cabiness (160) won by tech fall and Shawn Scott (189) won a decision to lead Obama Academy (4-0, 2-0) past Carrick (0-8, 0-3) in the City League.

South Park 71, South Allegheny 6 – Joshua Reagan (107), Travis Kirk (133), Joshua Kuzcma (160) and Sebastian Scanlon (215) won by fall and Josh Duncan (145) took a tech fall to lead South Park (6-1, 2-0) to a Section 7-2A win. Chase Spargal (114) had a pin for South Allegheny (0-8, 0-3).

Thomas Jefferson 50, Belle Vernon 22 – Jacob Labryer (133), Dominic Costa (139) and Dominic Cadwallader (145) had pins and Zach Rehak (121), Robert Cordova (127) and Cameron Timko (152) won by tech fall as Thomas Jefferson (9-2, 2-0) strung together six straight wins in a Section 7-3A victory. Deacon Kamberis (285) also recorded a pin and Shane Thurner (172) won by tech fall for the Jaguars.
