High school roundup for Dec. 19, 2024: Clairton’s Iyanna Wade scores 56 in overtime shootout

Iyanna Wade scored 56 points, including nine in overtime, to lead Clairton to a 83-72 overtime victory over West Greene in Section 2-A girls basketball Thursday night.

Also scoring in double figures for the Bears (5-2, 3-0) were Jamira Childs with 13 points and Karma Fuquod with 10. Madelyn Roberts led the Pioneers (5-2, 1-2) with 42 points and Kendra Tharp had 20.

Allderdice 72, Fox Chapel 63 – Bailey White scored 30 points and Rhyan Sledge and Peyton Lynch added 14 points apiece to lead Allderdice (3-4) to a nonsection win. Natalia Schaffer scored 22 points, Bella Urso added 15 and Lyla Jablon had 14 for Fox Chapel (4-3).

Aquinas Academy 47, Springdale 13 – Carly Bezila scored 11 points to lead Aquinas Academy (4-4, 2-1) to a Section 1-A win over Springdale (4-5, 2-1).

Avonworth 46, Deer Lakes 20 – Greta O’Brien scored 17 points and Emma Obersteiner added 12 as Avonworth (4-3, 2-1) handed Deer Lakes (6-1, 2-1) its first loss of the year in Section 2-3A.

Bentworth 29, Jefferson-Morgan 28 – Jesse Lashey scored 10 points to lead Bentworth (3-4, 1-0) to a Section 3-2A win over Jefferson-Morgan (0-7, 0-1).

Bethel Park 73, Uniontown 35 – Sadie Orie led Bethel Park (5-2, 3-0) with 22 points and Ella Sabatos followed with 20 in a Section 4-5A win. Emily Myers and Tessa Nicholson scored 10 points apiece for Uniontown (3-4, 1-2).

Blackhawk 48, Hopewell 15 – Aubree Hupp scored 18 points and Andrea Kinger had 13 to lead Blackhawk (7-1, 3-0) to a Section 2-4A win over Hopewell (1-6, 0-2).

Burgettstown 44, Northgate 11 – Savanna Rush scored 22 points to help Burgettstown (3-4, 1-0) to a Section 2-2A win. Hope Statler led Northgate (0-8, 0-1) with 10 points.

Burrell 61, Derry 17 – Casey Brancato scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for Burrell (6-2, 2-1) in Section 1-4A. Jules Fisher added 12, McKenna Miller 11 and Adriana Vogel 10 for the Bucs. Jane Huss led Derry (3-5, 1-2) with 12 points.

Butler 55, North Hills 53 (OT) – Syd Patterson hit a 12-foot jumper with four seconds to go in overtime for Butler (5-2, 1-0) to beat North Hills (2-5, 0-1) in Section 1-6A. Avery Maier had 14 points and Malina McElroy added 12 for the Golden Tornado. Zoe Devlin scored 17 points and Sophia Regan had 13 for the Indians.

California 51, Carmichaels 17 – Leah Hartley scored 13 points and Madyson Morton added 11 to help California (1-2, 1-0) past Carmichaels (0-7, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Central Valley 53, Hampton 49 – Nyah Hayes scored 21 points and Isabella Miller added 13 to lead Central Valley (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Maria Nyilas scored 17 points and Katie Christy had 13 for Hampton (7-2, 2-1).

Chartiers-Houston 48, Beth-Center 15 – Ava Kolovich scored 14 points and Allison Wingard contributed 10 for Chartiers-Houston (6-1, 1-0) in a Section 3-2A win over Beth-Center (4-4, 0-1).

Elizabeth Forward 64, Mt. Pleasant 34 – Michelle Jellison scored 26 points to lead Elizabeth Forward (4-3, 3-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Mia Sostaric and McKenna Bittner each added 10 for the Warriors. Morgan Gesinski led Mt. Pleasant (0-7, 0-3) with 13 points.

Ellis School 43, Frazier 23 – Angelina Jones scored 16 points to help Ellis School (2-3, 1-0) to a Section 4-2A win over Frazier (4-6, 0-1).

Ellwood City 58, New Brighton 5 – Delaney Sturgeon scored 19 points and Caitlin Kreitzer had 11 for Ellwood City (4-3, 1-2) in a Section 1-3A win over New Brighton (0-6, 0-3).

Fort Cherry 66, Carlynton 18 – Gianna Bianchini scored 14 points, Brooke Cornali had 11 and Allison Litman and Bella Bianchini added 10 points apiece for Fort Cherry (4-2, 1-0) in a Section 2-2A win over Carlynton (3-4, 0-1).

Franklin Regional 58, Gateway 21 – Madison DeRiggi scored 20 points, Addison Musto added 12 and Franklin Regional (5-3, 3-0) went on a 30-0 run in the first half to pull away from Gateway (0-4, 0-2) in Section 1-5A.

Geibel Catholic 61, Bishop Canevin 51 – Emma Larkin led with 34 points and Mallory Clemmer added 14 for Geibel Catholic (8-1, 2-1) in a Section 2-A win. Kya Cooley scored 15 points and Isabella Sysak had 12 for Bishop Canevin (5-3, 1-2).

Knoch 41, Highlands 30 – Neah Ewing with 17 points and made four 3-pointers to lead Knoch (3-5, 3-0) to a Section 1-4A win, its third straight victory. Tyarah Woody scored 11 points for Highlands (0-8, 0-3).

Laurel Highlands 79, Southmoreland 13 – Sierra Jenkins led with 25 points and Righteous Richardson had 15 for Laurel Highlands (5-3, 1-2) in a Section 3-4A win over Southmoreland (3-6, 1-2).

Mars 63, West Allegheny 56 – Vita Vargo scored 27 points and Alexis Cashdollar added 10 to lead Mars (4-2, 1-1) to a Section 3-5A win. Emma Ruperto scored 15 points and Alaina Holtz had 11 for West Allegheny (4-3, 0-3).

McGuffey 67, Charleroi 6 – Taylor Schumacher scored 25 points and Sarah Brownlee had 13 for McGuffey (5-2, 1-1) in a Section 3-3A win over Charleroi (0-9, 0-3).

Mohawk 39, Sto-Rox 37 – Makenna Stewart scored 17 points and Gigi Pezzuolo added 12 to lead Mohawk (2-3, 2-1) to a Section 1-3A win. Brooklyn Sykes scored 13 points and Allison Dotson had 12 for Sto-Rox (5-4, 1-2).

Monessen 45, Mapletown 28 – Madison Johnson scored 27 points to lead Monessen (3-2, 1-2) past Mapletown (2-6, 0-3) in a Section 2-A win.

Mt. Lebanon 42, Hempfield 40 – Payton Collins scored 14 points to lead Mt. Lebanon (4-3, 1-0) to a Section 2-6A win. Allie Cervola scored 11 points and Ava Shipman had 10 for Hempfield (6-1, 0-1).

Neshannock 47, Laurel 12 – Payton Newman scored 17 points for Neshannock (5-1, 1-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Laurel (3-4, 0-1).

Norwin 55, Connellsville 21 – Kendall Berger hit for 17 points to boost Norwin (4-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-6A win. Lexi Heller added 12 and Bella Furno had 11 for the Knights. Maggie Orndorff led Connellsville (2-7, 0-1) with 12 points.

Oakland Catholic 57, Freeport 24 – Led by 14 points from Josie Fontana, 12 from Alayla Bivins and 10 from Ellie Junker, Oakland Catholic (3-2, 2-1) picked up a Section 1-4A win over Freeport (1-7, 1-2).

Penn-Trafford 62, West Mifflin 17 – Lauren Marton scored 12 points and Kam Pieper added 10 to lead Penn-Trafford (9-0, 3-0) to a Section 2-5A win. Modesty Brown scored 10 points for West Mifflin (1-4, 0-2).

Riverview 70, Jeannette 21 – Lily Bauer scored a career-high 35 points to lead Riverview (5-2, 1-0) to a Section 4-2A win. Katerina Tsambis scored 17 points and Isabel Chaparro had 16 for the Raiders. Navarrah Smith scored 19 points for Jeannette (2-4, 0-1).

Rochester 73, Freedom 40 – Marque Taylor led with 21 points, Kamryn Newman had 14 and Nevaeh Squires scored 13 points for Rochester (4-4, 1-0) in a Section 1-2A win. Olivia Henderson scored 10 points for Freedom (1-5, 0-1).

Seneca Valley 44, North Allegheny 41 – Natalie Hambly scored 15 points, Gracie Cato added 11 and Legacy Joseph-Short had 10 to lead Seneca Valley (5-3, 1-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Vange Balouris scored 18 and Natalie Kinross had 10 for North Allegheny (1-5, 0-1).

Serra Catholic 71, Avella 46 – Abby Genes scored 35 points and Kendalyn Niedermeyer and Bella Dumbroski added 11 points apiece to lead Serra Catholic (3-5, 2-1) to a Section 2-A win. Ava Frank scored 30 points for Avella (5-3, 2-1).

Seton LaSalle 68, Brownsville 49 – Addie Lonergan and Abby Michalski led with 15 points, Tiara Curry followed with 14 and Natalie Pascarella added 11 for Seton LaSalle (5-1, 3-0) in a Section 3-3A win. Skylar Gates scored 22 points for Brownsville (5-3, 1-2).

Shady Side Academy 70, Ligonier Valley 13 – Cassie Sauer scored 13 points and Karis Thomas contributed 12 to lead Shady Side Academy (7-0, 3-0) past Ligonier Valley (2-5, 1-2) in Section 2-3A.

South Fayette 55, Montour 23 – Ryan Oldaker scored 16 points and Haylie Lamonde added 14 to lead South Fayette (7-0, 3-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Abigail Cleary scored eight points for Montour (4-3, 1-2).

South Park 55, Belle Vernon 31 – Nika Contakos scored 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers, to lead South Park (4-1, 3-0) to a Section 3-4A win over Belle Vernon (4-4, 2-1). Addy Kerr added 12 points and Bella Stromberg had 10 for the Eagles.

St. Joseph 63, Eden Christian 19 – Gia Richter scored 13 points and Kasey Cienik and Bella Bartolovic had 12 points apiece for St. Joseph (6-2, 3-0) in a Section 1-A win over Eden Christian (1-6, 0-3).

Thomas Jefferson 63, Albert Gallatin 29 – Kaylee DeAngelo led with 16 points and Maggie Spell added 12 points for Thomas Jefferson (9-1, 3-1) in a Section 4-5A win. Mya Gibson scored 13 points and Grayce Panos had 12 for Albert Gallatin (2-4, 0-3).

Union 53, Sewickley Academy 16 – Kylie Fruehstorfer hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points to lead Union (7-0, 3-0) to a nonsection victory over Sewickley Academy (2-5, 1-2).

Upper St. Clair 66, Canon-McMillan 44 – Rylee Kalocay scored 16 points to power Upper St. Clair (4-2, 1-0) to a Section 2-6A win. Ryan Prunzik added 15 and Olivia Terlecki 11 for the Panthers. Lauren Borella led Canon-McMillan (4-4, 0-1) with 14 points.

Westinghouse 36, Nazareth Prep 16 – Ajah Mallory scored 14 points to lead Westinghouse (3-2) to a nonsection win. Tylah McCray scored 11 points for Nazareth Prep (0-5).

Winchester Thurston 53, Apollo-Ridge 14 – Sky Still scored 19 points to lead Winchester Thurston (4-2, 1-0) to a Section 4-2A victory. Jasmine Hollins added 12 points and Dashae Cochran had 11 for the Bears. Josalin McCauley led Apollo-Ridge (2-5, 0-1) with six points.

Yough 37, Ringgold 30 – Carly Fitzgibbons scored 11 points to lead Yough (6-3, 2-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Rihanna Fordham and Jada Gernot scored 10 points apiece for Ringgold (3-4, 0-3).

Carlynton 64, East Allegheny 33 – Damien Holloway scored 22 points, Mike Jenkins had 21 and Mark Jameson added 10 to lead Carlynton (4-3) past East Allegheny (2-5) in a nonsection win.

McGuffey 46, Munday (Texas) 34 – Jacob Ealy scored 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers, to lead McGuffey (7-0) at the KSA Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

Nazareth Prep 80, Avella 42 – Leon Harrison scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures for Nazareth Prep (4-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-A win. Will Evans and Michael Keyes added 14, Christian Rucker 13 and Khylil Johnson 11. Nate Cilia led Avella (0-1, 0-1) with 11 points.

Propel Braddock Hills 53, Brashear 41 – Jarrell Santiago had 18 points and Malik Jetter added 12 to lead Propel Braddock Hills (1-7) to a nonsection win. Mike Lee scored 15 and Ryan White chipped in 10 for Brashear (1-8).

Serra Catholic 82, Geibel Catholic 42 – Owen Dumbroski led with 25 points, Tyler Sapida followed with 18 and Brayden Graham added 12 for Serra Catholic (8-1, 1-0) in a Section 2-A win. Eahn Stevenson scored 13 points and Roman Riccelli had 10 for Geibel Catholic (4-3, 0-1).

Sewickley Academy 58, Winchester Thurston 27 – Lucas Grimsley scored 22 points and Nolan Donnelly chipped in 11 to lead Sewickley Academy (5-1, 3-0) past Winchester Thurston (4-2, 1-1) in Section 2-2A.

South Side 74, Western Beaver 41 – Andrew Corfield led with 25 points, Carter Wilson followed with 15 and Austin Leatherman added 12 for South Side (5-3, 2-1) in a Section 4-2A win. Nate Schwarz and Khai Hudson scored 13 points apiece and Jackson Liller added 11 for Western Beaver (1-6, 0-3).

Steel Valley 56, Apollo-Ridge 34 – Jaeshawn Carson scored 21 points and Nate Yuhas added 16 to lead Steel Valley (3-7, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Zane Beatty and Brayden Myers scored 13 points each for Apollo-Ridge (2-7, 0-1).

Uniontown 71, Milken Community School (Calif.) 56 – Isaac Ellsworth scored 24 points to lead Uniontown (7-1) at the KSA Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. Notorious Grooms added 17 and Calvin Winfrey had 15 for the Red Raiders.

Upper St. Clair 59, Prince George’s Christian (Md.) 56 – Tyler Robbins scored 26 points to lead Upper St. Clair (8-1) at the Gil Reynolds Classic in Burlington, N.C. Jake Foster added 12 and Kaamil Jackson had 10 for the Panthers.

Bentworth 65, Mt. Pleasant 12 – Drake McClure (133), Bryce Crowson (139), Racer Litster (189) and Alex Rusilko (285) recorded pins and Owen Ivcic (172) won by tech fall to lead Bentworth (5-4) to a nonsection win. Nick Morell (114) had a pin for Mt. Pleasant (1-8).

Norwin 54, Frazier 15 – Coleton Klipa (114), Nathan Klingensmith (145), Santino Brasco (215) and Sebastian Summerville (285) recorded pins to lead Norwin (11-0) to a nonsection win. Landon Sidun (121), Jake Hall (139) and Riley Shaffer (172) had a tech fall and Dominic Butera (133) won by decision for the Knights. Jonah Erdely (152), Ryan Celaschi (160) and Jackson Angelo (189) won by tech fall for Frazier (4-4).

Hockey

Beaver 4, Wheeling Central Catholic 3 (OT) – Sammy Mecchia scored the overtime winner and Trevor Schmidt added a goal and two assists for Beaver (3-7-1) in a Class A win. Zack Masters and Aidan Natali also scored for Beaver. Aden Cooey, Rowan Parker and Logan Pielech scored for Wheeling Central Catholic (6-6-1).

Bethel Park 2, Upper St. Clair 1 – Nick Hosbach and Jack Hartman each had a goal and an assist in the third period and Kevin Teamann made 39 saves to lead Bethel Park (3-9) to a Class 3A win. Nico Galardini scored for Upper St. Clair (6-5-1).

Bishop McCort 6, Hempfield 3 – Mikaels Vasilevskis had a hat trick and added an assist and Connor Hewitt and Sammy Treager also scored for Bishop McCort (5-5-1) in a Class 2A win. Nick Crupie scored twice and Colby Herron added a goal for Hempfield (3-7).

Connellsville 4, Neshannock 3 – Mason Mazak scored two goals and Logan Hause and Braden Rodgerson added a goal apiece to lead Connellsville (6-4-1) to a Division 2 win. Jacob Gruber, Brady Liguore and Marko Relic scored for Neshannock (6-3-1).

Franklin Regional 4, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Ryan Crouse scored twice and Ashton Rothrauff made 40 saves to lead Franklin Regional (6-6) to a Class 3A win. Nick Matus had a goal and two assists and Ryland Kase added a goal. Lucas Blose scored for Thomas Jefferson (5-8).

Mars 12, Richland 0 – Jack Weaver had two goals and an assist and Xavier Bossola also scored twice to help Mars (11-3) to a Class A win over Richland (1-11). Cooper Stevens added a goal and three assists for Mars.

Morgantown 11, Elizabeth Forward 2 – Weston Mazey scored four goals and Jacob Hollander and Cooper Cox each scored twice to lead Morgantown (12-1) to a Division 2 win. Geno Valenti had a goal and four assists and Ayden Shepard added a goal and three assists. Bobby Boord Jr. had a goal and an assist and Patrick Malanda also scored for Elizabeth Forward (7-4).

Quaker Valley 3, Blackhawk 1 – Max Modrovich, Hunter Kronk and Matthias Lezama scored to lead Quaker Valley (14-0) to a Class A win. Beck Harry scored for Blackhawk (6-5).

Ringgold 8, Central Valley 3 – Brady Lippert had two goals and two assists and Mathew Shirer, Benito Pesi, Caden Doran and Anthony Bonari had a goal and an assist each to lead Ringgold (6-4-2) to a Division 2 win. Kody Krynicki scored two goals for Central Valley (3-7-1).

Seneca Valley 4, Pine-Richland 3 – Braden Morin scored twice, Ethan Riffe and Matthew Bailey added a goal each and Carter Hoehn had two assists for Seneca Valley (8-1) in a Class 3A win. Carson Verszyla, Josh Lanyard and Noah Taggert scored for Pine-Richland (3-7-2).
