High school roundup for Dec. 20, 2025: Oakland Catholic wins battle of WPIAL title contenders

Savanna Daye connected for 21 points to lead Class 4A No. 2 Oakland Catholic to a 60-41 victory over Class 3A No. 1 Shady Side Academy in a matchup of WPIAL title contenders at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic at Ambridge on Saturday.

Josie Fontana followed with 19 points for the Eagles (3-1). Karis Thomas scored a game-high 28 for the Bulldogs (7-1).

Baldwin 63, Trinity 53 – Lynsey Bernotas scored a career-high 26 points and Julianne Ott added 14 to help Baldwin (5-1, 1-0) to a Section 4-5A win. Sutton Williamson scored 17, Bently Layhue added 12 and Gabby Rieg had 10 for Trinity (5-1, 1-1).

Beaver Falls 62, Seton LaSalle 38 – Calasia Cannon scored 20 points to lead Beaver Falls (7-0) over Seton LaSalle (5-2) at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic at Ambridge. Taylor Pullen and Dreaven Haskins added 12 points each. Ava Maroney led Seton LaSalle with 11 points while Natalie Pascarella chipped in 10 points.

Bethel Park 38, Allderdice 30 – At Ambridge, Naiya Turner and Fiona O’Neill had nine points each as Bethel Park (5-2) beat Allderdice (6-2) at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic. Bailey White scored a game-high 20 points for Allderdice.

Blackhawk 58, South Park 35 – Aubree Hupp scored 22 points to lead Blackhawk (8-0) over South Park (3-4) in Ambridge at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic. Mia Sheesley added 14 points for Blackhawk and Grace Huston tacked on 11 points. Hayley Bennett’s 14 points paced South Park.

Elizabeth Forward 50, Kennedy Catholic 45 – Kaelynn Settles had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Elizabeth Forward (6-2) rallied for the nonsection win against Kennedy Catholic. Mia Sostaric added 14 points for the Warriors, who trailed 36-30 entering the fourth quarter. Tori Harvey led Kennedy Catholic with 22 points while Bella Magestro had 11.

Greensburg Central Catholic 72, Charlotte (FL) 40 – Jayla Peterson scored 25 points and Erica Gribble added 24 as Greensburg Central Catholic (5-2) won at the Tampa Bay Invitational. It was the second game of the day for the Centurions, who lost 72-48 to Lake Highland Prep (FL) in their opener. Gribble scored 12 points and Avery Jones added 11 for GCC.

Indiana 57, Franklin Regional 22 – Laken Kugler scored 18 points to lead Indiana (8-0) at the Mark Arbuckle Classic at IUP. Alyssa Bridges led Franklin Regional (2-4) with 13 points.

Montour 73, Hopewell 33 – Siena Palmer hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points as Montour (6-2) beat Hopewell (1-8) at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic at Ambridge. Tiffany Miller added 15 points while Brooklyn Young added 12.

North Allegheny 56, Howland (OH) 30 – At the Howland Invitational, Vange Balouris hit six 3-pointers on way to scoring 24 points in North Allegheny’s win over the host team. Rae Shanahan added 10 points for North Allegheny (2-4) while Maya Kubancsek led Howland with 11 points.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 39, Keystone Oaks 24 – Lola Garner scored 10 points to lead OLSH (5-2) at the PBC Hall of Fame Classic. Nina DeWeese led Keystone Oaks (3-4) with nine points.

Peters Township 51, Morgantown (WV) 28 – Bri Morreale scored 20 points to lead Peters Township (4-3) past Morgantown (WV) in the Buckeye 8 Challenge at Ohio University-Eastern. Taylor McCullough added 15 points and Jordyn Welsh chipped in 10 points.

Thomas Jefferson 70, Germantown Academy 58 – Riley McCabe scored 20 points, Emily Hritz added 19 and Maggie Spell had 18 to lead Thomas Jefferson (8-1) at the Keystone Classic at Cardinal O’Hara.

Boys basketball

Allderdice 54, St. Peter’s (NY) 45 – Markus Kuhn had 14 points and Keenu Brooks added 11 as Allderdice (4-4) beat St. Peter’s (N.Y.) in a nonsection game. Nick Pallinti totaled 17 points in the loss.

Avonworth 43, South Fayette 41 – Will Shields scored 20 points and Jaden Jones added 11 to lead Avonworth (2-5) at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche University. Eli Latouf scored 14 for South Fayette (2-5).

Baldwin 66, Trinity 49 – Led by 17 points from Sadiq Anderson, 16 from Evan Golvash and 14 from Max Marzina, Baldwin (4-2, 1-1) picked up a Section 3-5A win. Jonah Williamson scored 14 points and Ian Migyanko added 10 for Trinity (2-5, 1-2).

Belle Vernon 70, Greensburg Central Catholic 50 – Elijah Majors had 17 points and Cam Jenko added 16 as Belle Vernon (7-3) overcame a slow start to defeat Greensburg Central Catholic (1-6) in the WCCA Showcase at Jeannette. Luke Semelka had 17 and Carson Kramer 14 for the Centurions.

Deer Lakes 70, Plum 59 – Collin Rodgers scored 25 points to lead Deer Lakes to a nonsection victory over Plum. Evan Moore added 15 points and Luca Mangieri had 10 for the Lancers (3-4). Bryce Nabozny led the Mustangs (2-6) with 19 points. Xavier Barto followed with 15 and Owen Proskin chipped in 12.

Derry 57, Mt. Pleasant 52 – Brayden Robinson scored a game-high 21 points as Derry (5-4) rallied from an early deficit to get past Mt. Pleasant (2-5) in the WCCA Showcase at Jeannette. Hudson Fridley added 14 points and William Stockett-Harter had 10 for the Trojans. Cole Massari had 14 and Andrew Brodak 13 for Mt. Pleasant.

Greensburg Salem 52, Ligonier Valley 49 – Solomon Cain hit a 28-footer at the buzzer to lift Greensburg Salem past Ligonier Valley at the WCCA Showcase at Greensburg Salem. Jackson Stevey scored 14 points, Ty Harkcom added 13 and Noah Dudek had 12 for the Golden Lions (4-4). Michael Vargulish-Graver and Noah Knupp scored 10 points apiece for the Rams (4-3).

Hempfield 71, Southmoreland 32 – Danny Husentis had 20 points as Hempfield (5-3) downed Southmoreland (3-4) in the WCCA Showcase at Greensburg Salem. Trevor Donsen contributed 17 points and Lucas Simmons had 10 for the Spartans. Noah Felentzer scored 16 points for the Scotties.

Jefferson-Morgan 57, Morgantown Christian Academy 47 – John Woodward scored 19 points as Jefferson-Morgan (7-0) beat Morgantown Christian Academy at the Clay-Battelle tournament. Jeremiah Robertson added 10 points.

Knoch 59, Kiski Area 46 – Vinnie DeFelice scored 15 points, Liam Avon added 12 and Roman DeFelice chipped in 10 to lead Knoch (5-2) at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche University. Amaree Gonzalez led Kiski Area (3-4) with 11 points. The Knights turned a two-point game at halftime into a 10-point lead by outscoring the Cavaliers 20-12 in the third quarter.

McDowell 56, North Allegheny 37 – Liam Marsh scored 20 points and Zane Simons chipped in 11 to lead McDowell at the KSA Pre-Holiday Tournament at Disney. Blake Craft scored 12 and Justin Statler added 11 for North Allegheny (5-3).

North Catholic 82, Newport Central Catholic (KY) 61 – Jude Rottmann scored 23 points and Jason Fredericks and Brandon Pickett added 20 points each as North Catholic (6-2) defeated Newport Central Catholic (Ky.) at the Queen City Hoop Fest in Cincinnati. John Luhn tallied 18 points in the loss.

North Hills 75, Mars 62 – At the Henry Jenkins Classic at LaRoche, Jackson Long had 27 points and Nathan Schanbacher followed with 26 as North Hills (5-3) snapped a five-game winning streak for Mars (5-2). Austen Wroblewski paced Mars with 25 points while Ben Detisch contributed 11 points.

Upper St. Clair 70, West Nassau (FL) 35 – Greyson Sayler scored 14 points and Andrew Gaither added 12 to lead Upper St. Clair (8-1) to a 3-0 weekend at the Fernandina Beach Holiday tournament in Florida.

Boys wrestling

St. Edward 39, Connellsville 29 – Bradley Baumon (127) won by decision and Connor Whitely (133) and Karson Brown (139) won byfall as St. Edward broke open a match that was tied after nine weight classes at Pitt’s Fitzgerald Field House. Frankie Pinter (189) and Aiden Peterson (215) also had pins for St. Edward. Luke Lilley (152) won by fall, Jake Lilley (160) and Kai Vielma (145) took tech falls, Tommy Gretz (121) won by major decision and Cooper Lembo (172) won in overtime for Connellsville (1-2).
