High school roundup for Dec. 26, 2024: South Park gets past Ringgold in OT as holiday hoops weekend tips off

Cooper Hochendoner scored 22 points to lead South Park to a 58-54 overtime victory over Ringgold at the Charleroi boys basketball holiday tournament Thursday night.

Luke Scarff followed with 21 for the Eagles (7-1). Ringgold (2-4) had four players in double figures – Demetri Lowe (12), Braylen Lomax (11), Szyair Dungee (10) and Zavion Thomas (10).

Charleroi 61, Frazier 46 – Amaru Staub scored 18 points and Shea Smith and Jackson Keranko contributed 11 each to lead Charleroi (6-4) to a win at the holiday tournament hosted by the Cougars. Charleroi took over with a 22-11 edge in the second quarter. Koby Stewart had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Dailan McManus and Conlan Higbee added 12 points each for Frazier (2-7).

Southmoreland 56, East Allegheny 50 – Noah Felentzer scored 30 points to power Southmoreland (6-2) at the Charleroi holiday tournament. Jayden Patterson led East Allegheny (2-6) with 27 points. The Scotties led 22-15 at halftime before the Wildcats went on a 17-10 run to leave the score tied entering the fourth quarter.

Girls basketball

Fort Cherry 72, Avella 31 – Olivia Kemp scored 21 points and Brooke Cornali added 11 to lead Fort Cherry (5-2) at the McGuffey tournament. The Rangers took control with a 33-point second quarter. Sydney Strope led Avella (5-4) with 18 points.

McGuffey 58, Steel Valley 6 – Taylor Schumacher scored 20 points and Lexi Ewig followed with 15 to lead McGuffey (6-2) past Steel Valley (1-7) at the tournament hosted by the Highlanders. Maura Janovich added nine points and nine rebounds for McGuffey, which will meet Fort Cherry in the championship game at 8 p.m. Friday.
