High school roundup for Dec. 28, 2024: Neighborhood Academy steps up in class, beats Fox Chapel

Courtney Wallace collected 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Trib HSSN Class A No. 1 Neighborhood Academy to a 60-42 boys basketball victory over Class 6A Fox Chapel at the Peter Sauer Memorial Tournament at Shady Side Academy on Saturday.
Syncer Nicholson added 13 points and Kedron Gilmore contributed 12 points for the Bulldogs (9-0). Isaac Moser and Asher White scored 17 points each for Fox Chapel (8-2).
Aliquippa 71, Uniontown 44 – Led by 22 points from Joshua Pratt, 19 from Qa’lil Goode and 13 from Jeremiah Pratt, Aliquippa (5-1) picked up a win at the Central Valley tournament. Isaac Ellsworth scored 16 points and Notorious Grooms added 13 for Uniontown (8-3).
Apollo-Ridge 57, Leechburg 39 – Alexander Clawson, Logan Schrock and Zane Beatty scored nine points apiece to lead Apollo-Ridge (3-8) in the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Vikings. Chase Henry scored 11 points for Leechburg (2-9).
Aquinas Academy 81, Springdale 60 – Aquinas Academy (8-1) rallied with a 26-15 run in the second quarter after falling behind by six points early to take control of the championship game of the tournament hosted by the Crusaders. Liam Dexter scored 20 points, Robby Simmen added 13 and Pat Wylly had 10 for Springdale (8-2).
Avella 56, Fort Cherry 47 – Brayden Fuller scored 15 points, Nata Cilia added 11 points and nine rebounds and Bryce Wright collected 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Avella (5-4) in the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Eagles. Shane Cornali led all scorers with 27 points for Fort Cherry (2-6).
Avonworth 97, Penn Hills 63 – Rowan Carmichael poured in 42 points, Nate Goetz followed with 18 and Billy Onyshko added 17 for Avonworth (7-1) at the Ambridge tournament. Calix Clark scored 21 points and Amon Hawthorne had 13 for Penn Hills (3-6).
Beaver County Christian 52, Westinghouse 40 – At the Monessen tournament, Tyler Guevara had 14 points and Rocco DeSarbo had 11 points as Beaver County Christian (5-2) beat Westinghouse (0-6). Darren Taylor scored 10 points for Westinghouse.
Belle Vernon 61, Keystone Oaks 47 – Trevor Kovatch led with 25 points, Dominic Ghilani followed with 10 and Elijah Majors and Luca Ghilani added nine points apiece for Belle Vernon (7-4) at the Deer Lakes tournament. Errand Jakupi scored 15 points and Joey Colton had 11 for Keystone Oaks (8-2).
Bentworth 41, West Greene 20 – Lucas Burt scored 16 points and Ben Hays added 11 as Bentworth (3-6) won the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Bearcats. Lane Allison led West Greene (5-4) with eight points.
Beth-Center 78, Mapletown 29 – Jason Zellie hit for 30 points to lead Beth-Center (5-4) in the consolation game of the Carmichaels tournament. Lucas Stevenson led Mapletown (0-8) with 16 points.
Bethel Park 57, Hampton 44 – Jack Bruckner scored nine points as Bethel Park (4-5) overcame a slow start to defeat tournament host Hampton (3-6). Gavin Gunn scored nine points for the Talbots, who led 16-9 after the first quarter.
Brashear 70, Geibel Catholic 67 – Mike Lee scored 24 points and Nasir Thomas contributed 17 to lead Brashear (3-8) in the championship game of the Burgettstown tournament. Evan Strimel scored 23 points and Roman Riccelli added 15 for Geibel Catholic (5-4).
Burgettstown 47, Riverside 44 – Colton County scored 14 points to lead Burgettstown (2-6) in the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Blue Devils. Drake Fox hit five 3-pointers for 15 points and Logan Young added 11 points for Riverside (6-5).
Butler 66, Allderdice 60 – Tayt Lucas scored 22 points to lead Butler (6-3) past Allderdice (2-6) at the Holiday Bash at North Allegheny. Andrew Gettinger added 15 points and Ayden Andrews had 13 for the Golden Tornado. Lukas Stead scored 26 points and Trey Schachter added 13 for the Dragons.
Central Valley 65, Lincoln Park 42 – Isaiah Jeter scored 23 points and Angelo Conti added 12 for Central Valley (8-1) at the tournament hosted by the Warriors at Geneva College. Damar Johnson led Lincoln Park (2-6) with 10 points.
Chartiers Valley 76, Ambridge 52 – Jayden Davis scored 27 points to lead four players in double figures for Chartiers Valley (9-1) at the Ambridge tournament. Luca Federico added 13, Julius Best 11 and Danny Slizik 10 for the Colts. Jared Astorinto scored 29 points and Adam Fernandez had 11 for the Bridgers (2-6).
Cheswick Christian Academy 68, Propel Braddock Hills 58 – Joseph Rosio (28) and Brady Rochkind (25) combined for 53 points to lead Cheswick Christian Academy (3-5) in the consolation game of the St. Joseph tournament. Jarell Santiago scored 24 points and Braylon Davis-Clay added 13 for Propel Braddock Hills (1-10).
Connellsville 53, Mt. Pleasant 31 – Lucas Harwood scored 15 points and Xavier John added 11 to lead Connellsville (3-7) at the Greensburg Salem tournament. Carter Unger led Mt. Pleasant (0-10) with 10 points.
Dalton (Ohio) 52, OLSH 41 – Coy Wenger scored 16 points to lead Dalton (Ohio) over OLSH (6-3) in the Wishes Can Happen tournament in Ohio. Jake Johnson paced OLSH with 16 points.
Deer Lakes 73, Indiana 70 – Nathaniel Moore scored 29 points to power Deer Lakes (9-2) past Indiana (3-5) at the tournament hosted by the Lancers. J.T McCue and Collin Rodgers each added 13 points and Luca Mangieri had 11 for Deer Lakes.
Don Bosco Prep (NJ) 84, Imani Christian 67 – Brady Loughlin scored 22 points and Jaylen Lewis added 17 to lead Don Bosco Prep (NJ) at the Governor’s Challenge in Maryland. RJ Sledge led Imani Christian (5-2) with 38 points.
Elizabeth Forward 52, Franklin Regional 47 – Tyler Basic and Cy Herchelroath scored 18 points each and Daniel Spence chipped in 10 to lead Elizabeth Forward (8-2) at the South Allegheny tournament. Connor Crossey scored a game-high 26 for Franklin Regional (4-6).
Ellwood City 74, Kennedy Catholic 41 – Aaron Lake scored 18 points, Chris Smiley had 17 and Chucky Schweinsberg added 12 for Ellwood City (7-4) at the Mercer tournament. Rayvion Venable scored 27 points for Kennedy Catholic.
Greensburg Central Catholic 81, Ligonier Valley 54 – A.J. Tarpley scored 25 points and Samir Crosby added 18 points as Greensburg Central Catholic (9-1) beat Ligonier Valley (6-4) in the Greensburg Salem tournament. Parker Hollick hit five 3-pointers on the way to scoring 25 points for Ligonier Valley while Michael Wisniewski added 19 points.
Grove City 41, Neshannock 40 – Nathan Greer scored 23 points to lead Grove City in the championship game of the Neshannock tournament. Tony Perrotta scored 11 points and Talan Anderton added 10 for the Lancers (7-1).
Hempfield 62, Greensburg Salem 38 – Drew Gordon scored 19 points and Max Williams added 12 for Hempfield (6-4) at the Greensburg Salem tournament. Braedon Leatherman scored 11 points for Greensburg Salem (2-7).
Jeannette 74, Yough 31 – Led by 13 points from Marcus McGowan, 12 from Noah Sunder and 10 from Lonnie Greene, Jeannette (10-0) won at the Greensburg Salem tournament. Brody King led Yough (1-12) with eight points.
Jefferson-Morgan 68, Carmichaels 27 – Led by 19 points from Houston Guesman, 18 from Jase Bedilion and 17 from Jeremiah Robertson, Jefferson-Morgan (7-2) won the championship game of the tournament hosted by Carmichaels (2-6).
Johnstown 43, Gateway 39 – Donte Tisinger scored 19 points and Amier Robinson added 12 to lead Johnstown past Gateway (4-4) at the Central Valley tournament.
Kiski Area 68, Greenville 43 – Carson Heinle scored 15 points to lead Kiski Area (4-6) to a win in the Sharon tournament. Justin Schnell scored 11 and Noah Cano 10 for Greenville.
Latrobe 56, Shenandoah (IN) 50 – Max Butler scored 20 points and Andy Tatsch added 10 as Latrobe defeated the host team in the championship game of the Christmas Classic at Shenandoah High School in Indiana.
Laurel 87, Academy for Urban Scholars 23 – Luca Santini had 17 points as Laurel (5-5) downed the Academy for Urban Scholars in Wilmington. Tyler Fuchs chipped in 13 points for Laurel while Jackson Jones and Seth Gilmore added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Louis Henderson tallied 12 points in the loss.
Mars 83, North Hills 55 – Ben Detisch scored 23 points and Mars (6-3) hit 18 3-pointers in a win over North Hills (2-8) at the Hampton tournament. Drew Navetta made seven 3-pointers to finish with 21 points and Austen Wroblewski scored 20 for the Fightin’ Planets.
Mohawk 67, Sharon 64 – Bobby Fadden scored 31 points to power Mohawk (8-2) to a win at the Sharon tournament. Joey Nail added 16 and Drew Wrona had 12. Derek Douglas led Sharon with 24 points.
Monessen 52, California 29 – Rodney Johnson had 14 points and Devontae Robinson contributed 12 points as tournament host Monessen (5-3) defeated California (2-7). Caden Monticelli recorded 12 points for California.
Nazareth Prep 69, Carrick 24 – Led by 17 points from Will Evans, 15 from Leon Harrison and 10 from Michael Keyes, Nazareth Prep (6-2) won the championship game of the Bentworth tournament. Brayden Fisher led Carrick (3-5) with nine points.
North Allegheny 52, Bishop Canevin 44 – John Jubeck scored 19 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead host North Allegheny (5-3) over Bishop Canevin (2-7) at the Holiday Bash. Drew Allen scored a game-high 24 points for the Crusaders.
Norwin 61, South Fayette 49 – Mario Csukas hit seven 3-pointers and ended up with 31 points to lead Norwin (5-5) past South Fayette (6-3) at the South Allegheny tournament.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Md.) 54, Central Catholic 41 –Mario Tatum had 12 points as Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Md.) defeated Central Catholic (5-4) at the Bishop McDevitt Catholic Showcase. Bradley Gompers had 12 points for the Vikings.
Pine-Richland 71, Beaver 56 – Grant Spacciapolli scored 34 points, Emery Moye had 14 and Eli Catalano added 13 for Pine-Richland (4-3) at the Central Valley tournament. Brady Mayo scored 22 points and Logan Weiland had 14 for Beaver (7-3).
Quaker Valley 66, Farrell 52 – Led by 21 points from Zach Washington, 16 from Nic Cohen and 11 from Sam Chapman, Quaker Valley (6-1) picked up a nonsection win at Farrell.
Ringgold 62, Charleroi 46 – Led by 17 points from Syzair Dungee, 16 from Braylen Lomax and 14 from Demetri Lowe, Ringgold (3-5) won at the Charleroi tournament. Shea Smith scored 16, Noah Pletcher 12 and Jackson Keranko 10 for the host Cougars (6-6).
Seneca Valley 51, Plum 25 – Andrew Omasits scored 14 points, Nico Santapau had 12 and Tyler Pepin added 10 for Seneca Valley (5-6) at the Plum tournament. Max Grice scored 16 points for Plum (5-4).
Shenango 60, Eden Christian 49 – Joey Campoli scored 25 points and Brayden George had 11 for Shenango (4-5) at the Hickory tournament. Mason Dean scored 13 points for Eden Christian (2-7).
South Allegheny 79, West Mifflin 44 – Cam Epps made five 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead South Allegheny (9-1) at the tournament hosted by the Gladiators. Drew Cook added 21 and Josh Jackowski had 11. Julian Dewberry scored 13 and Daven Reynolds had 11 for West Mifflin (2-9).
Southmoreland 66, South Park 58 – Noah Felentzer scored 30 points as Southmoreland (8-2) knocked off Class 3A No. 3 South Park (8-2) at the Charleroi tournament. Ty Whoric added 12 and Brock Pritts had 10 for the Scotties. Junior Luke Scarff scored 26 points to surpass 1,000 points for his career for the Eagles. Cooper Hochendoner added 18.
South Side 91, Brentwood 70 – Andrew Corfield scored 35 points, Carter Wilson had 19 and RJ Fischer and Mateja Pavlovich added 12 points apiece to lead South Side (7-3) at the tournament hosted by the Rams. Colton Rosing led Brentwood (3-6) with 33 points and Xh’avier Nunez had 13.
Trinity 65, Canon-McMillan 52 – Jonah Williamson led with 21 points, Jacob Dunkle followed with 18 and Max Diesel added 13 for Trinity (6-3) in the championship game of the tournament hosted by the Hillers. Evan Morris scored 17 points and Roman Koenemund had 13 for Canon-McMillan (2-6).
Valley 64, St. Joseph 53 – Taireke Davis scored 35 points as Valley (2-8) won the championship game of the St. Joseph tournament. Ryan McCarthy scored 14 points and Ben Bartolovic added 13 for the host Spartans (7-3).

Albert Gallatin 54, Beth-Center 20 – Mikayla Shea scored 18 points and Mya Glisan and Grayce Panos tallied 16 and 14 points, respectively, as Albert Gallatin (4-4) beat tournament host Beth-Center (5-5).
Altoona 68, Butler 41 – Lanie Wilt and Raylin Eyer scored 15 points apiece for Altoona at the Butler tournament. Amelia McMichael scored 10 points for Butler (6-4).
Blackhawk 50, Walkersville (Md.) 23 – Aubree Hupp scored 22 points to lead Blackhawk (9-2) to the win at the Deep Creek Lake tournament against Walkersville (Md.). Ava Pagani added 10 points for Blackhawk.
Burrell 57, Apollo-Ridge 22 – Casey Brancato’s 22 points led Burrell (7-3) to the consolation win over tournament host Apollo-Ridge (2-7). Jules Fisher added 13 points and McKenna Miller chipped in 10 points.
Chartiers Valley 58, Parkdale (Md.) 31 – Emma Reynolds scored 12 points and Ava Shazer added 10 as Chartiers Valley (7-4) defeated Parkdale (Md.) at the All About the Girls tournament at Baltimore Western.
Connellsville 57, West Mifflin 49 – Sara Tinkey scored 17 points and Elizabeth Painter and Whitney Bobish each added 10 to lead Connellsville (4-8) at the Mt. Pleasant tournament. Savaughn Wimbs led West Mifflin (2-6) with 20 points. Neraul Parms added 14 and A’ryah Scott had 11.
Elizabeth Forward 54, Baldwin 51 – Chloe Zombek scored 15 points for Elizabeth Forward (6-3) at the tournament hosted by the Warriors. Lynsey Bernotas and Mary Vargo scored 11 points apiece for Baldwin (4-6).
Ellis School 47, Propel Braddock Hills 23 – Taelor Spencer scored 16 points and Angelina Jones collected 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead Ellis School (4-3) in the championship game of the Neighborhood Academy tournament. Syree Spencer added 12 points. Kayla Knight led Propel Braddock Hills with eight points.
Ellwood City 59, Shenango 23 – Delaney Sturgeon led with 20 points, Kayla Jones followed with 19 and Caitlin Kreitzer added 14 for Ellwood City (5-4) at the Shenango tournament. Ella Ferrell scored 10 points for Shenango (1-7).
Fox Chapel 72, St. Joseph 42 – Lyla Jablon scored 27 points and Bella Urso followed with 18 as Fox Chapel (7-3) won the championship game of the St. Joseph tournament. Gia Richter led the Spartans (7-3) with 11 points.
Freedom 59, Monessen 26 – Olivia Henderson scored 21 points to lead Freedom (2-6) over Monessen (3-4) in the consolation game of the Burgettstown tournament. Riley Tokaw added 13 points for Freedom while Annabelle Johnson chipped in 10 points. Madison Johnson (16) and Na’Jaziah Carter (10) accounted for all of Monessen’s points.
Freeport 72, Valley 54 – Lillian Holloway led with 22 points, Nia DiSanti followed with 13 and Maggie Conger added 12 for Freeport (2-8) in the consolation game of the St. Joseph tournament. Janelle Norman scored 20 points and Trinity Ingram had 18 for Valley (1-9).
Greensburg Salem 44, Mt. Pleasant 33 – Mya Heasley hit five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead Greensburg Salem (7-3) to a win at the Mt. Pleasant tournament. Morgan Gesinski scored 15 for the Vikings (0-9).
Indiana 27, Laurel Highlands 24 – Julia Antonacci scored 12 points to lead Indiana (8-2) past Laurel Highlands (6-4) at the Latrobe tournament.
Jefferson-Morgan 35, Carmichaels 24 – Ava Wood scored 10 points to lead Jefferson-Morgan (1-8) past Carmichaels (0-9) in the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Mighty Mikes.
Keystone Oaks 54. Central Valley 41 – In the championship game of the Central Valley tournament, Lainey Wagner scored 21 points as Keystone Oaks (7-1) beat the host team. Nyah Hayes scored 17 points for Central Valley (5-2).
Mars 35, Oceanside (S.C.) 24 – Alexis Cashdollar scored 14 points to lead Mars (6-2) past Oceanside (S.C.) at the Carolina Invitational.
Mohawk 34, Brentwood 17 – Gianna Pezzuolo scored a career-high 18 points to lead Mohawk (3-5) over Brentwood (2-5) at the South Side tournament.
Moon 40, Armstrong 31 – Jayla Brown scored 16 points and Maria Depner chipped in 10 for Moon (5-3) at the Butler tournament. Isabella Yancy led Armstrong (1-8) with 17 points.
Mt. Lebanon 60, Woodland Hills 22 – Payton Collins hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career in a win for Mt. Lebanon (6-3) over Woodland Hills (5-3) at the Peter Sauer Memorial Tournament at Shady Side Academy. Cali Green collected 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
Mountain Ridge (Md.) 49, Trinity 45 – Kealana Pua’auli scored 21 points and Taylor Lamberson added 17 points as Mountain Ridge defeated Trinity (6-3) at the Deep Creek Lake tournament. Sutton Williamson led Trinity with 14 points while Gaby Rieg added 12 points.
Neighborhood Academy 29, Westinghouse 25 – Aamira Abdul-Waalee and Neveah Jefferson scored 12 points apiece for Neighborhood Academy (3-3) in the consolation game of the tournament hosted by the Bulldogs. Ajah Malloy scored 14 points for Westinghouse (3-4).
Neshannock 74, Hickory 19 – Jaidon Nogay scored 14 points and Payton Newman had 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals to lead Neshannock (8-1) in the championship game of the Hickory tournament. Nina Medure added 12 points for the Lancers. Kimora Roberts led Hickory with 12 points.
Oakland Catholic 60, North Allegheny 44 – Zephania Troxler-Scott scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures for Oakland Catholic (5-2) at the Holiday Bash at North Allegheny. Savanna Daye had 13, Madi Pullen 11 and Makayla Canty 10 for the Eagles. Vange Balouris led North Allegheny (2-6) with 13 points.
Peters Township 60, Bishop Guilfoyle 43 – Brianna Morreale led with 18 points, Taylor McCullough followed with 14 and Natalie Wetzel and Alina Sopko added 13 points apiece to push Peters Township (9-1) past Bishop Guilfoyle at the Holiday Bash at North Allegheny.
Ringgold 55, Bentworth 38 – Jada Gernot scored 27 points to lead Ringgold (5-4) in the championship game of the Bentworth tournament. Kayla O’Dell scored 12 points for Bentworth (5-5).
Riverside 44, Laurel 41 – At the Shenango tournament, Emma Meyer scored 13 points and Danny Rosenberger tallied 10 points as Riverside (7-4) defeated Laurel (4-6). Maelee Hill scored a game-high 16 points in the loss.
Seneca Valley 71, Plum 65 – Natalie Hambly scored 23 points and Reece McFadden added 21 points as Seneca Valley (6-4) beat Plum (2-7) at the Peter Sauer tournament at Shady Side Academy. Gracie Cato contributed 15 points for Seneca Valley. Tamia West scored 22 points and Serena Carnahan added 16 for Plum.
Shady Side Academy 60, Pine-Richland 40 – Karis Thomas scored 19 points, Cassie Sauer had 15 and Leah Buford added 13 for Shady Side Academy (10-0) at the tournament hosted by the Bulldogs. Cate Gentile scored 17 points and Rebekah Shaffer had 13 for Pine-Richland (2-7).
South Park 56, East Fairmont (WV) 49 – Nika Contakos scored 22 points and Bella Stromberg added 14 to lead South Park (6-2) at the Deep Creek Lake tournament. Emma Moure scored 20 points for East Fairmont (WV).
Springdale 56, Propel Montour 20— In the consolation game of the Bentworth tournament, Sage Joilet scored 16 points and Talia Brunck added 12 points as Springdale (5-6) beat Propel Montour (1-7).
Trinity Christian 38, South Allegheny 32 – Elena Myers scored 17 points and Eilidh Edgar added 11 to lead Trinity Christian (2-2) in the consolation game of the South Allegheny tournament. Ella Lotz scored 10 points and Mira Morningstar and Paige Dodds had eight points apiece for South Allegheny (0-8).
Union 51, South Side 42 – Kylie Fruehstorfer scored a career-high 27 points and Maggie Joseph had 10 for Union (9-0) at the South Side tournament. Eden Schrier scored 16 points for South Side (6-4).
