High school roundup for Feb. 11, 2019: Mt. Lebanon boys take down Chartiers Valley

Two teams with high expectations for the WPIAL playoffs played in a postseason tune-up Monday night, and Class 6A No. 3 Mt. Lebanon got the best of Class 5A No. 5 Chartiers Valley, 77-53, in a nonsection boys basketball game.
Hayden Mitchell had 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (19-3), who led 33-25 at halftime.
Jared Goldstrom had 17 points for the Colts (16-5).
Butler 67, Hampton 54 — Ethan Morton had 22 points to guide Class 6A No. 4 Butler (17-4) to a nonsection triumph. Ben Ringeisen had 23 points for Hampton (12-9).
New Castle 81, South Fayette 51 — Donte Burnett had 13 points and Demetris McKnight added 12 as Class 4A No. 1 New Castle (18-4) won a nonsection matchup.
OLSH 85, New Brighton 53 — Daren DiMichele had 19 points to lead Class 2A No. 1 OLSH (19-2) to a nonsection win.
Pine-Richland 93, Sewickley Academy 60 — Dan Petcash had 25 points to lead Class 6A No. 1 Pine-Richland (20-2) to a win at the Hoops for a Cure tournament. Isiah Warfield had 30 points for Class 2A No. 4 Sewickley Academy (12-8).
Quaker Valley 75, Summit Academy 42 — Ryan Stowers had 33 points to guide Class 4A No. 3 Quaker Valley (18-3) to a nonsection win.
Serra Catholic 69, Seton LaSalle 59 — Jimmy Moon had 25 points and 24 rebounds as Class 2A No. 2 Serra Catholic (18-3) won a nonsection matchup. Dylan Preston had 16 points for the Class 3A No. 4 Rebels (17-4).
Greensburg Central Catholic 64, Charleroi 56 — Geoff Helm had 27 points, and Joel LoNigro added 23 for the Centurions (16-6), who have won nine straight games.
Joe Caruso had 21 points for Charleroi (11-10).
Greensburg Salem 67, Indiana 50 — Dante Parsons had 23 points to lift Greensburg Salem to a nonsection win. Ryan Thomas added 17 points for the Golden Lions (9-13) in their final game of the season.
Chase Walker had 16 points for the Little Indians (3-19), who fell behind 17-6 in the first quarter.
Seneca Valley 52, Norwin 50 — Marcus Might had 13 points, and Mason Bush added 12 as Seneca Valley (11-10) won a nonsection contest. Zac Zajacs won the game with a layup at the buzzer. Ty Bilinsky had 13 points, and Logan Liebdzinski added 11 for Norwin (8-13).
Penn-Trafford 66, Kiski Area 52 — Kevin Stinelli had a game-high 19 points for Penn-Trafford (14-8) in a nonsection win. Chris Abreu had 17 points, Brayden Puskar had 12 points and Zach Rocco scored 11 for the Warriors. Austin Schwarz led Kiski Area (4-18) with 16 points.
Highlands 66, Beaver 50 — Luke Cochran scored 31 points as Class 4A No. 5 Highlands defeated Beaver in nonsection play. Johnny Crise recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Dom Pesci chipped in 10 points for Highlands (15-7). Mike Champ scored 15 points, and Noah Brassell and Beckett Connelly scored 10 points each for Beaver (6-15).
Knoch 79, Armstrong 56 — Scott Fraser and Jared Schrecengost scored 17 points each to lead five Knoch players in double figures in a nonsection win. Julian Sanks had 13 points for the Knights (17-5), Brady McKee added 11 points and Ryan Lang scored 10. Gavin Szymanski had 19 points for Armstrong (7-15) and Jesse Ventura added 11 points.
Central Catholic 62, Fox Chapel 58 (OT) — Ben Sarson scored 25 points as Central Catholic defeated Fox Chapel in nonsection play. Maurice Shipman added 17 points for Central Catholic (5-17). Arnold Vento scored 17 points, and Noah Marks scored 10 points for Fox Chapel (15-7).
Girls basketball
Bethel Park 59, North Catholic 52 — Olivia Westphal had 28 points to lift Class 6A No. 4 Bethel Park (20-2) to a nonsection victory. Dani Short tallied 15 for the Class 4A No. 1 Trojanettes (19-3).
North Allegheny 57, Oakland Catholic 42 — Rachel Martindale had 17 points, and Lizzy Groetsch added 15 as Class 6A No. 3 North Allegheny (21-1) won a nonsection game. Alexis Sestric scored 15 points for Class 5A No. 2 Oakland Catholic (19-3).
Neshannock 64, Blackhawk 59 — Bella Burrelli scored 29 points as Class 3A No. 1 Neshannock (20-2) won a nonsection game. Mackenzie Amalia tallied 18 points for Class 4A No. 3 Blackhawk (18-4).
Quaker Valley 50, Shady Side Academy 48 — Led by Corrine Washington’s 19 points, Quaker Valley (12-9) earned a nonsection win. Nyla Rozier had 16 points for Class 3A No. 3 Shady Side Academy (17-3).
Canon-McMillan 62, Elizabeth Forward 50 — Abby Daniels had 17 points, and Tamara Mathis added 16 as Canon-McMillan (10-12) won a nonsection game.
Connellsville 61, Albert Gallatin 53 — Zoe Youdell scored 33 points to lift Connellsville (6-16) to a nonsection victory. Bryn Bezjak scored 29 points, including five 3-pointers, for Albert Gallatin (7-13).
Keystone Oaks 61, Carlynton 47 — Gillian Piccolino had 30 points as Keystone Oaks (13-8) won a nonsection contest.
Baldwin 67, Ringgold 49 — The host Highlanders hit on 26 of 38 foul shots; the Rams connected on 12 of 17 charity attempts, as Baldwin (9-13) rallied for a nonsection victory.
The Highlanders outscored Ringgold by a 40-19 margin after halftime, and by a 19-7 difference in the fourth quarter.
Freshman guard Morgan Altavilla led Baldwin with a game-high 23 points, racking up five 3-pointers and sinking eight of 10 free throws.
Altavilla was complemented by sophomore forward Kayla Radomski with 14 points and freshman guard Emiley Hillgartner with 11. Radomsky made eight of 11 foul shots in the contest; Hillgartner was five for seven from the foul line.
Ringgold (5-16) was paced by junior point guard Nya Adams with 20 points.
Greensburg Central Catholic 71, Monessen 41 — Anna Eisaman and Melina Maietta scored 18 points each as Class A No. 2 Greensburg Central Catholic (19-3) won a nonsection game. Bella Skatell added 17 points for the Centurions. Qitarah Hardison had 16 points for Monessen (7-15).
South Park 55, Southmoreland 42 — Cassidy Zandier had 20 points, and Maura Huwalt scored 19, including the 1,000th point of her career, as South Park (16-6) won a nonsection game. Bailey Kuhns had 14 points for Southmoreland (17-5).
Trinity 45, Franklin Regional 42 — Riley DeRubbo had 16 points as Trinity (11-11) won a nonsection game. Cali Konek scored 21 points, and Jordan Yaniga added 16 for Class 5A No. 5 Franklin Regional (16-6).
Gateway 78, Latrobe 51 — Lexi Jackson and Mary Kromka had 20 points each as Class 5A No. 3 Gateway (19-3) won a nonsection game. Rachel Ridilla scored 16 points for Latrobe (12-9), which was outscored 46-22 in the second half.
Greensburg Salem 56, Laurel Highlands 40 — Megan Kallock had 26 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Greensburg Salem (12-10) to a nonsection win.
Plum 66, Burrell 46 — Kennedie Montue scored a game-high 26 points, lifting Plum to a nonsection win.
Gianna Trombetta added 12 points for Plum (11-11), a WPIAL Class 5A playoff qualifier.
Kaylen Sharrow led Burrell (6-15) with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Ally Fisher added 12 points.
Kiski Area 58, Valley 13 — Hannah Potter had a game-high 25 points to lead Kiski Area (5-16) past Valley (3-19) in a nonsection game. Samantha Worthing added 12 points for the Cavaliers.
Karns City 47, Leechburg 25 — Aubry Skeel had 12 points for Leechburg, which dropped a nonsection game at Karns City (2-15). Kat Yurjevich chipped in eight points for the Blue Devils (7-12).
Hockey
Penn-Trafford 4, Latrobe 3 — Ryan Mickey scored twice, and Ashton Adamek added a goal, all in the second period, to give Penn-Trafford (7-11-0-0) a PIHL Class AA victory. Jack Hughes also scored, and Braiden O’Connor made 32 saves for the Warriors.
Cole Novak, Alexander Schall and Lane Ruffner scored for Latrobe (13-4-0-1).
