Andrew Gettinger scored 17 points to send No. 7 Butler to a 71-54 victory over North Hills (7-16) in the WPIAL Class 6A boys basketball first round Monday night.
Stainton Forbes added 16 points, Tayt Lucas followed with 15, Ayden Andrews had 13 and Kyle Casteel finished with 10 for the Golden Tornado (16-6), who will take on No. 2 New Castle in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Chartiers-Houston 55, Shenango 35 – Nate Gregory scored 27 points, hitting the 1,000-point mark for his career, and Justus Buckingham added 20 points to lead No. 7 Chartiers-Houston (20-3) to a Class 2A victory over No. 10 Shenango (11-12). Joey Campoli put up 18 points for the Wildcats. Chartiers-Houston will play No. 2 Sewickley Academy in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Cheswick Christian Academy 81, East Liverpool Christian 40 – Brady Rochkind scored 26 points, becoming the 12th player in school history to hit the 1,000-point mark, as Cheswick Christian Academy (18-6) won in Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference quarterfinals. Joseph Rosio added 25 points and 10 steals for the Chargers, who advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals. Uriah Farley and Rickey Russell each scored 15 for East Liverpool Christian.
Jeannette 91, Brentwood 42 – Kymon’e Brown scored 20 points to lead five Jeannette (20-2) players in double figures in a Class 2A first-round win. Markus McGowan put up 18, Xavier Odorisio-Farrow followed with 17, Stone Markham sank five 3-pointers for 15 points and Jayce Powell had 11 points for the No. 3 Jayhawks. Forrest Betz dropped 20 points and Colton Rosing added 16 for No. 19 Brentwood (9-14). Jeannette will play No. 6 OLSH in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Neshannock 56, Winchester Thurston 44 – Led by 19 points from Tony Perrotta, No. 4 Neshannock (20-2) beat No. 13 Winchester Thurston (16-8) in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. David Kwiat scored 11 and Ashton Allison added 10 for the Lancers, who will face No. 5 Northgate in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Micheal Hammerling put up 24 points and Matt Southers finished with 14 for the Bears.
Northgate 61, Springdale 45 – Tylan Daniels led all scorers with 20 points and Kadenne Kemp followed with 10 as No. 5 Northgate (14-9) defeated No. 21 Springdale (14-9) in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Pat Wylly put up 14 points and Robby Simmen finished with 12 for the Dynamos. The Flames advance to play No. 4 Neshannock in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
OLSH 64, Clairton 37 – Tiernan McCullough lit up the scoreboard with 32 points to pace No. 6 OLSH (18-5) in a Class 2A opening-round win over No. 11 Clairton (9-11). Jake Johnson added 16 for the Chargers, who will face No. 3 Jeannette in the quarterfinals Thursday. Michael Ruffin led the Bears with seven points.
Sewickley Academy 59, Bentworth 26 – Mamadou Kane scored 16 points to lead No. 2 Sewickley Academy (18-4) to a Class 2A first-round win. The Panthers, who will face No. 7 Chartiers-Houston in the quarterfinals Thursday, took a 19-2 lead after one quarter. Chris Harper led No. 15 Bentworth (11-11) with 12 points.
Union 70, Fort Cherry 49 – Lucas Stnaley went off with 36 points to lead No. 8 Union (17-6) in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Jordyn Kelley added 11 points for the Scotties. Shane Cornali scored 22 points, Matt Sieg added 17 and Gavin Grace finished with 10 for No. 9 Fort Cherry (13-9). Union will take on top-seeded Greensburg Central in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Woodland Hills 43, Seneca Valley 32 – Landon Akins scored 15 points to lead No. 9 Woodland Hills (12-11) to a Class 6A first-round win. The Wolverines, who will meet No. 1 Upper St. Clair in the quarterfinals Thursday, used a 12-4 run in the second quarter to take control. Tyler Pepin led No. 8 Seneca Valley (11-12) with 10 points.
Girls basketball
Beaver 62, Freeport 28 – Ava Wright scored 19 points, Emerson Connolly added 12 and Annsley Baker followed with 11 to lead No. 5 Beaver (17-5) to a Class 4A first-round win. Maggie Conger led No. 12 Freeport (6-17) with eight points. The Bobcats will face No. 4 Elizabeth Forward in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Blackhawk 60, Yough 12 – Aubree Hupp led all scorers with 24 points, Ava Pagani added 14 and Andrea Kinger contributed 13 as top-seeded Blackhawk (21-2) beat No. 16 Yough (12-12) in the Class 4A first round. The Cougars advance to play No. 8 Laurel Highlands in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Central Valley 55, Belle Vernon 46 – Nyah Hayes led all scorers with 16 points, Izzy Miller added 12 and Lily Seese chipped in 10 as No. 7 Central Valley (15-7) bested No. 10 Belle Vernon (11-12) in the first round in Class 4A. Aubrey Brown scored 13 points, Saylor Lee added 11 and Emerson LaCarte made three 3-pointers for nine points for the Leopards. The Warriors advance to play No. 2 Oakland Catholic in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Elizabeth Forward 69, Hopewell 42 – Mia Sostaric produced 17 points, Chloe Zombek and McKenna Bittner each added 12 and Michelle Jellison had 10 for No. 4 Elizabeth Forward (18-5) in a Class 4A first-round win. Alyssa Spang scored 18 and Avery Boyd added 11 for No. 13 Hopewell (9-14). Elizabeth Forward will play No. 5 Beaver in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Laurel Highlands 61, Knoch 43 – Maya Harris produced 16 points and Taylor Schwertferger followed with 15 while Aierra Jenkins and Aryianna Sumpter each finished with 10 as No. 8 Laurel Highlands (17-5) defeated No. 9 Knoch (12-11) in the first round in Class 4A. Karlee Buterbaugh had 16 points and Jada Burgard made three 3-pointer to total nine points for the Knights. Laurel Highlands will take on top-seeded Blackhawk in the quarterfinals Thursday.
North Catholic 62, Mt. Pleasant 23 – Sam Weir hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead No. 3 North Catholic (20-3) to a Class 4A first-round win. Brady Wehner added 13, Harmony Jones had 11 and Sarah Loughry chipped in 10 for the Trojanettes, who will meet No. 6 South Park in the quarterfinals Thursday. Danica Trainer led No. 14 Mt. Pleasant (6-16) with nine points.
Oakland Catholic 65, Hampton 15 – Alayla Bivins scored 16 points, Josie Fontana followed with 14, Zephania Troxler-Scott finished with 13 and London Creach contributed 11 to lead No. 2 seed Oakland Catholic (20-3) to a Class 4A opening-round win over No. 15 Hampton (10-12). The Eagles will take on No. 7 Central Valley in the quarterfinals Thursday.
South Park 40, Burrell 24 – Brooke Paylo scored 13 points to lead No. 6 South Park (16-5) to a Class 4A first-round win. The Eagles, who will face No. 3 North Catholic in the quarterfinals Thursday, took control with a 14-2 scoring advantage in the first quarter. Casey Brancato scored seven points to lead No. 11 Burrell (13-10).
St. Joseph 61, Sewickley Academy 13 – Gia Richter hit for 21 points and Kasey Cienik followed with 13 to help No. 6 St. Joseph (16-7) past No. 11 Sewickley Academy (5-15) in the Class A first round. The Spartans will take on No. 3 Clairton in the quarterfinals Thursday.
West Greene 59, Eden Christian 29 – Kendra Tharp scored 19 points and Madelyn Roberts added 17 to lead No. 7 West Greene (16-7) to a Class A first-round win. After trailing 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers went on a 25-4 run in the second. Hannah Wallace led No. 10 Eden Christian (5-16) with nine points. West Greene will face No. 2 Geibel Catholic in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Burrell 5, Carrick 2 – Mike Morazcyzk had two goals and two assists and Adam Scheftic added a goal and two assists to send Burrell (16-2-1) to a Division 2 victory. Aaron Holm added a goal and an assist and Forrest Baird also scored for Burrell. Drew Bird scored twice for Carrick (8-7-3).
Chartiers Valley 7, Montour 0 – Noah Callender scored a pair of goals to lead Chartiers Valley (19-1) to a Class A win over Montour (13-5-1). Luke Mitchell, Ryan Kumpf, Brady Nairn, Austin Tornabene and Darien Strosnider each added a goal for the Colts. Matt Colberg stopped 23 shots for the shutout.
Fox Chapel 3, Penn-Trafford 2 – Liam Wiseman, Dominic Casile and Trip Goehring scored to lead Fox Chapel (16-2-1) to a Class 2A victory over Penn-Trafford (15-4-1). Cam Kiste and Brock Bienemann scored for the Warriors. The win locks up first place in the division and the No. 1 seed for the playoffs for Fox Chapel.
Moon 2, Butler 1 – Logan Riecke and Clayton Foster scored and Carson Relyea made 24 saves to help Moon (17-2-1) to a Class A win. Anthony Tromblatt scored and Kaidon Vorel made 30 saves for Butler (4-13-3).
Neshannock 7, Wilmington 3 – Brady Liguore had two goals and an assist, Will Kinchloe added a goal and two assists and John Monoides finished with a goal and an assist for Neshannock (13-3-2) in a Division 2 win. Finn McGreal, Brody Young and Tye Tomak scored for Wilmington (2-15-1).
Peters Township 10, Franklin Regional 3 – Luca Maietta scored four goals while Troy Jones added a pair of goals to lead Peters Township (7-10-2) to a Class 3A win. Cole Neupaver, Chay Lamagna, Nicholas Caputo and Brendan Monko each added a goal for Peters. Joey Casella, Brian Compton and Nolan Savinda scored for Franklin Regional (7-10-1).
Plum 5, Kiski 0 – Luca Lapiana had two goals and an assist, Colby Bartos and Connor Reilly each added a goal and an assist and Noah Lander made 22 saves to send Plum (13-7) to a Class A win. Jacob Walker made 52 saves for Kiski (0-19-1).
Pine-Richland 5, South Fayette 2 – Josh Lanyard scored a hat trick and Colten Andrighetti added a pair of goals as Pine-Richland (6-9-2) defeated South Fayette (8-9-1) in Class 3A. Nathaniel Keller and Mason Imler each tallied a goal for the Lions.
Seneca Valley 7, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Braden Morin and Jimmy Murtha each had two goals and an assist, Andrew Malichky had a goal and three assists and Christopher Nichols made 18 saves to lead Seneca Valley (15-3) past Mt. Lebanon (14-3-2) in Class 3A.
Thomas Jefferson 5, North Allegheny 2 – Lucas Blose scored twice, Derek Schliebner and Michael Burns each had a goal and an assist and Liam Mahoney also scored for Thomas Jefferson (10-9) in a Class 3A victory. Marc Joyson and William Kasunich scored for North Allegheny (10-7).
Wheeling Park 5, West Allegheny 2 – Owen Abraham recorded a hat trick while Luke Simonetti and Cooper Abraham each added a goal for Wheeling Park (12-5-2) in a Class A win. Branden Switalski scored both goals for West Allegheny (8-11).
