High school roundup for Feb. 24, 2026: Neshannock, Winchester Thurston reach Class 2A finals

DaShae Cochran scored 22 points and Jasmine Hollins added 21 to lead No. 2 Winchester Thurston to a 51-36 victory over No. 3 Chartiers-Houston in the WPIAL Class 2A girls basketball semifinals Tuesday night.
The Bears (21-3), who took control with a 12-6 advantage in the second quarter, will meet No. 1 Neshannock in the championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Events Center. Ali Wingard scored 11 and Ava Kolovich added 10 for No. 3 Chartiers-Houston (20-4), which will meet No. 5 Rochester in the third-place game Thursday.
Neshannock 73, Rochester 24 – Payton Newman had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 1 Neshannock (21-3) in the Class 2A semifinals. Jaidon Nogay added 11 points and Ainsley Allison added 10 for the Lancers. Tia Yellock scored seven points for No. 5 Rochester (14-10).
Consolation
Baldwin 41, Indiana 37 – Lynsey Bernotas scored 15 points and Julianna Ott added 10 to lead No. 4 Baldwin (21-5) in the Class 5A fifth-place game. Addy Hutton scored 16 points to lead No. 3 Indiana (21-5). The top eight teams make states.
Penn-Trafford 54, Peters Township 51 – Torrie DeStefano scored 19 points as No. 6 Penn-Trafford rallied over No. 12 Peters Township in the Class 5A third-place game. Penn-Trafford (20-6) trailed 41-34 after three quarters before outscoring Peters 20-10 in the fourth. The Warriors set a school record with their 25th consecutive home victory. Bri Morreale scored 25 points, including five 3-pointers, for Peters (15-11). In Class 5A girls, the top eight teams make the state playoffs.
Trinity 68, Fox Chapel 45 – Gabby Humphreys scored 19 points as No. 9 Trinity defeated No. 7 Fox Chapel in the Class 5A seventh-place game. Sutton Williamson and Vitt Emerich each added 13 points for the Hillers, who raced out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter. Nina Kulikowski scored 10 points to lead the Foxes. The top eight teams qualify for the state tournament.
Boys basketball
Allderdice 62, Erie 61 (OT) – Zachary Coffey scored 13 points and Markus Kuhn added 10, including the game-tying layup with three seconds left in regulation, to lead Allderdice (17-8) in the PIAA Class 6A District 6-8-10 subregional. Keiylan Walden scored 12 and Lukas Stead finished with 10 for the Dragons, who went on an 8-2 run to start overtime and will play host to State College at 6 p.m. Friday. Jaden Stewart scored 21 and Joe Jones had 14 for Erie (16-8).
Monessen 47, Nazareth Prep 43 – Tayvin Craggette scored 17 points to lead No. 4 Monessen (13-10) in the WPIAL Class A third-place game. Rodney Johnson added 12 points for the Greyhounds, who took control with a 12-2 run in the second quarter. Zach Frye scored 21 points and Ahsan Harrison had 12 for No. 2 Nazareth Prep (9-13). The top four teams make the state tournament.

Playoffs
Avonworth 9, Beaver 3 – Luke Ermlich and Joey Moore each had two goals and an assist, Austin Dzadovsky collected a goal and three assists and Owen Stiers and Cooper Powell had a goal and two assists each in the Class A first round for Avonworth (17-3-1), the second seed from the Gold division. Michael Derda and Sammy Mecchia each had a goal and an assist for Beaver (9-12), the seventh seed from the Blue division. Avonworth will face Moon in the quarterfinals.
Butler 2, North Catholic 1 (OT) – Jase Renwick scored the winning goal in the first minute of overtime, leading Butler (16-4-1) to a first-round Class A playoff victory. Anthony Trombatt also scored and Harper Slater made nine saves for Butler, the fourth seed from the Gold division. Anthony Neely scored and Wyatt Cleveland made 46 saves for North Catholic (11-9-1), the fifth seed from the Blue division. Butler will meet Canon-McMillan in the quarterfinals.
Chartiers Valley 4, Hampton 0 – Four players scored and Ben Waldron made 15 saves to lead Chartiers Valley (16-2-3) in the Class A first round. Jackson Chorey, Ryan Viola, Vinnie Vennero and Gavin Waldron scored for CV, the third seed out of the Gold division, which will meet Quaker Valley in the quarterfinals. Patrick McCabe made 49 saves for Hampton (9-10-2), the sixth seed from the Blue division.
Moon 5, North Hills 1 – Jordan Rieke scored twice, Eric Hartman had a goal and an assist and Ben Poeta and Brooks Underwood also scored to lead Moon (16-3-2) to a Class A first-round win. Moon, the third seed out of the Blue division, will face Avonworth in the quarterfinals. Christopher Muschar scored for North Hills (10-83), the sixth seed from the Gold division.
Regular season
Bethel Park 7, Norwin 2 – Lucas Bombich and Luke Fauth each had two goals and an assist to lead Bethel Park (14-5-1) to a Class 2A win. Brody Boban had a goal and an assist and Damien Flore also scored for Norwin (4-14-2).
McDowell 5, Wilmington 4 (OT) – Brayden Burnette scored 18 seconds into overtime to lead McDowell (6-14) to a Division 2 victory. Cam Tennant, Dylan Payne and Burnette each had a goal and an assist. Anthony Popovich scored twice for Wilmington (7-12-1).
Trinity 10, Carrick 0 – Seamus Coyle racked up five goals and an assist, Zach Jiblits collected a goal and four assists, Cale Bitz dished out three assists and Cydney Mathers made 26 saves to lead Trinity (12-7-1) to a Division 2 win over Carrick (4-15-1).
Wheeling Park 5, Armstrong 4 – Luke Simonetti scored the game winner with 6:52 left in regulation as Wheeling Park (4-12-4) scored four unanswered goals in the third period of a Class 2A victory. Simonetti had two goals and an assist, Gavin Hudrlik also scored twice and Brody Groome added a goal for Wheeling Park. Josh Rullo had two goals and an assist and Jason Rullo added a goal and two assists for Armstrong (17-3).
