High school roundup for Feb. 25, 2026: Central Valley boys, Burgettstown girls punch PIAA tickets

Angelo Conti scored 15 points to lead No. 6 Central Valley to a 58-51 victory over No. 5 Hopewell in the Class 4A boys basketball fifth-place game Wednesday night, earning the WPIAL’s final berth in the PIAA playoffs in the classification.

Wyatt Clark added 13 points and Adam Shroads had 12 for the Warriors (18-8). Brody Rock scored 21 and James “Booboo” Armstrong had 11 for the Vikings (16-10).

Central Catholic 66, Seneca Valley 46 – Enzo Khalil scored 24 points and Christian Williams followed with 14 as No. 3 Central Catholic (22-3) won the Class 6A third-place game. Owen Congdon and Ryan Priester each scored 14 for No. 4 Seneca Valley (14-11). In boys 6A, the top four teams make the state playoffs.

Eden Christian 58, Jefferson-Morgan 39 – Samuel D’Ippolito hit for 19 points and Michael Sample followed with 12 to lead No. 9 Eden Christian (13-10) in the Class 2A fifth-place game. Brayden Ellsworth scored 12 and Tritan Farabee added 11 for No. 6 Jefferson-Morgan (23-3). In boys 2A, the top eight teams make states.

Mohawk 72, Seton LaSalle 61 – Drew Wrona scored 23 points to lead No. 1 Mohawk (23-2) in the Class 3A fifth-place game. Joey Nail added 19 points and Bobby Fadden had 16 for the Warriors. Gabe Gizzi scored 16 points, Charlie Crummie 13, DayVaughn Williams 12 and Jaleel Wright 10 for No. 7 Seton LaSalle (19-7). In boys 3A, the top seven teams make states.

Neshannock 48, Winchester Thurston 43 – David Kwiat scored 17 points and Geno Blundo chipped in 10 to help No. 4 Neshannock (19-6) to a win in the Class 2A seventh-place game. Mike Hammerling scored 12 points and Peyton Cowell had 10 for No. 10 Winchester Thurston (16-10). In Class 2A boys, the top eight teams make states.

North Catholic 70, Deer Lakes 66 – Jason Fredericks scored 29 points to lead No. 2 North Catholic past No. 13 Deer Lakes in the Class 4A third-place game. Deer Lakes erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to lead 66-65 before a three-point play from Jude Rottmann with 21 seconds left gave North Catholic a 68-66 advantage. Rottmann scored 16 and Brandon Pickett had 14 for the Trojans (19-6). Evan Moore scored 23, Dylan Ferraro added 16 and Collin Rodgers had for the Lancers (12-14). In Class 4A boys, the top five teams make states.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 47, Clairton 43 – Tiernan McCullough scored 14 points and Nolan Reed added 12 as No. 3 OLSH (21-5) won a Class 2A third-place game that was tied after three quarters. Michael Ruffin scored 13, Taris Wooding 11 and Brandon Murphy 10 for No. 5 Clairton (18-5). In boys 2A, the top eight teams make states.

Penn Hills 57, Gateway 53 – Amon Hawthorne scored 17 points to lead No. 6 Penn Hills (19-7) to a win in the Class 5A fifth-place game. Darian Robinson added 15 and Calix Clark added 13 for Penn Hills. Mykel Bruce-McCrommon led No. 5 Gateway (17-9) with 27 points. In boys 5A, the top eight teams make states.

Shaler 75, Ringgold 68 – Jordan Epps scored 28 points and Deron Nixon added 25 as No. 9 Shaler (14-12) held off a comeback bid by No. 15 Ringgold (15-12) in the Class 5A seventh-place game. Nick Perez added 11 points for the Titans. Demetri Lowe scored 17, Chris Wilson 12 and Dennis Hawkins 11 for the Rams. In boys 5A, the top eight teams make states.

Girls basketball

Aliquippa 45, Fort Cherry 41 – Jaionna Banks scored 15 points and Jayona Patrick added 13 as No. 6 Aliquippa (17-8) won the Class 2A fifth-place game. Julie Klose scored 13 and Emily Pfender followed with 12 for No. 4 Fort Cherry (18-6). In 2A girls, the top seven teams make states.

Aquinas Academy 63, Union 46 – Tess Duer scored 28 points and Elliot Keverline added 12 as No. 1 Aquinas Academy (21-3) won the Class A third-place game. Ally Symons scored 20 points to lead No. 3 Union (19-6). In Class A girls, the top six teams make states.

Belle Vernon 44, South Park 27 – Aubrey Brown scored 13 points and Kyla McConnell had 11 as No. 4 Belle Vernon (22-4) won the Class 4A fifth-place game. Bella Stromberg and Hayley Bennett each scored eight for No. 7 South Park. The Leopards broke open a tie game at halftime by outscoring the Eagles 23-6 in the second half. In girls 4A, the top six teams make states.

Burgettstown 42, Laurel 27 – Camryn Reddinger scored 12 points and Paige Klodowski added 10 as No. 7 Burgettstown (18-8) claimed the WPIAL’s seventh and final berth in the PIAA Class 2A playoffs. The Blue Devils led by three at the half and took over with an 18-7 edge in the third quarter. Jael Henderson scored 12 points to lead No. 9 Laurel (13-13).

North Catholic 47, Elizabeth Forward 40 – Harmony Jones put up 11 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for No. 3 North Catholic (20-6) in the Class 4A third-place game. Mia Sostaric and Kaelynn Settles each scored 16 for No. 5 Elizabeth Forward (18-8). In 4A girls, the top six teams make states.

Sewickley Academy 58, St. Joseph 48 – Mikaela Mbandi scored 19 points to lead No. 7 Sewickley Academy (16-10) to a win in the Class A fifth-place game. Nina Caputo and Athena Ameredes each added 16 for the Panthers. Maddie Krill and Bella Bartolovic each scored 11 for No. 5 St. Joseph (14-11). In Class A girls, the top six teams advance to states.
