High school roundup for Feb. 6, 2019: Jeannette boys win 3rd straight game

The Jeannette boys basketball team is getting hot at the right time as the regular season comes to a close.

The Jayhawks won their third straight game Wednesday night, defeating Chartiers-Houston, 39-33, in a Section 2-2A contest.

Marcus Barnes had 12 points, and Jackson Pruitt had 10 for Jeannette (12-9, 8-3), which will finish the regular season against No. 2-ranked Serra Catholic (16-3, 11-0) on Friday.

Freeport 37, Yough 34 — Yough trailed by five points at halftime, but the rally fell short as Freeport (11-8, 5-5) pulled out the Section 1-4A win to wrap up the regular-season section schedule. Gamal Marballie led Yough (7-14, 1-9) with 12 points.

Uniontown 67, Elizabeth Forward 52 — Jahmere Richardson had 16 points, and Bryant Grady added 15 as No. 4 Uniontown (16-3, 10-0) won in Section 3-4A.

Summit Academy 65, Northgate 49 — In Section 1-2A, Takoma Askew had 21 points to lead Summit Academy (10-7, 9-4) to victory. Malcolm Randall had 28 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career for Northgate (4-16, 3-10).

Propel Montour 71, Avella 50 — Corey Simmons Jr. had 40 points as Propel Montour won a nonsection contest.

South Side 59, Avonworth 55 — Logan English had 18 points as South Side (15-6) won a nonsection game.

Girls basketball

Peters Township 75, Canon-McMillan 27 — Isabella Mills had 19 points, and Makenna Marisa added 17 as No. 1 Peters Township (21-0, 14-0) won a Section 2-6A game.

South Park 62, Seton LaSalle 46 — In Section 2-3A, Maura Huwalt and Cassidy Zandier each had 19 points to guide No. 4 South Park (14-6, 12-1) to a victory.

Blackhawk 59, Rochester 35 — Mackenzie Amalia had 17 points to lead Class 4A No. 3 Blackhawk (16-3) to a victory at the Hoops for a Cure tournament at Lincoln Park.

Norwin 66, Butler 28 — Olivia Gribble had 18 points, and Jessica Kolesar added 11 as No. 2 Norwin (19-1, 12-1) won a Section 1-6A game. The Knights led 36-23 at halftime and went on a 21-2 run to start the second half.

Brentwood 43, Franklin Regional 40 — Anna Betz had 26 points to lift Class 2A No. 2 Brentwood (17-3) to a nonsection win. Jordan Yaniga had 17 points for Class 5A No. 5 Franklin Regional (15-5).

Derry 58, Steel Valley 54 — Destiny Roberts had 13 points as Derry (8-11, 6-7) won in Section 3-3A. Hannah Wedow added 12 points, and Tiana Moracco scored 11 in the win.

East Allegheny 75, Greensburg Central Catholic 54 — Abby Henderson had 30 points, and Amaia Johnson had 27 points as East Allegheny (13-7) won a nonsection game. Anna Eisaman and Bella Skatell each had 18 points for Class A Greensburg Central Catholic (17-3).

Purchase Line 52, Ligonier Valley 42 — Destiny Sheriff had 13 points for Ligonier Valley (4-16, 4-10) in a District 6 Heritage Conference loss.

Moon 58, North Hills 39 — Reilly Sunday had 15 points as Moon (11-9) won a nonsection game.
